I feel like the worse Zelda games are usually still better than the average non-Zelda game. Except maybe the CD-i games, but at least those generated memes and were probably good for their time. Also Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask are my top 2, Majora being my favorite. The persistent time mechanic along with all those masks blew my mind as a kid, and there were so many iconic moments permanently seared into my brain - especially fear of ReDead jumpscares. Instantly learned how to button mash.

i agree 100%. zelda games have a high standard of quality, which is part of why i've always loved them. cd-i is nightmare fuel lol. nice picks! oof. redeads are one of the most terrifying aspects of zelda lore, especially when you consider fan theories... thanks for commenting!

I can tell you very much like Zelda because this is the most I've ever heard you talk in a video. Interesting to hear everything in this video because I know nothing about the Zelda games. Also, at 7:31-7:41, this reminds me of a game called Spec Ops: The Line, though the difference is that it's not hopeful in the slightest. Obviously a very different game in comparison, but you talking about deeper, more mature, and darker issues just made me think of it. I mean, even me playing it now, I still feel so much guilt and regret 💀😭

Hearing the ALttP slander in the original video was already crushing, but hearing it coming from the lips of a Zelda super fan left me with one foot in the grave, especially the "nobody talks about ALttP", which seems incredibly off to me since before the Link's Awakening remake drop, it was absolutely the most discussed 2D Zelda imo, and even afterwards it's been a solid 2nd place. Not only does it have a randomizer, it has a randomizer that mixes it in seamlessly with Super Metroid! It even got a pseudo remake! It established so many of the franchises' themes, leitmotif's, recurring enemies, lore, items...it was such an important game for the series as a whole, and in my opinion it has held up excellently to the test of time, which is something I ironically cannot say the say about Ocarina of Time, which absolutely shows it's age more and more over time. At least Majora's Mask holds up a fair bit better in comparison...

I would say that ALTTP was pretty much the 2D template that OoT and many others after followed. Even many of the dungeons and puzzles in OoT were 3D implementations of what ALTTP had in 2D.

on the subject of glitches there is such a simple one in BotW where if u mash the run button while holding the down arrow (to call your horse) you can run while not losing stamina, I bet it will be fixed in TotK but I loved knowing about it and using it on my playthroughs, a super easy to use glitch that helped me a lot, but maybe removing it would be for the best since I never really wanted to upgrade my stamina bar because of it ( besides to climb mountains ofc)

Finally I've found a vtuber that knows just as much about Zelda as me, but has almost the same takes about the games as me! (I even started with the same game: OoT) Speaking of though its too hard to pick a favorite single game in the series but I'd have to narrow it down to MM, TP, and BotW with OoT and WW close behind

Here’s my rant for A Link to the Past: A Link to the Past is an S tier for me because it embodies what Zelda is supposed to be at its core: adventuring and discovery. The game has a very basic story that explains quite a bit, but honestly they’re more of goals that you reach in order to gain a little more dialogue. It’s what you do in between dungeons that the real story is told. The game is also surprisingly difficult at times. It took me well over a dozen times to beat Gannon. Zelda games really depend on the type of player. The player may like a more guided approach where there’s limited exploration but amazing storytelling or a more exploration type game and can sacrifice a bit of storytelling.

OoT was good, but the only things that really ranks it so high are the dungeons and music. The "open world" was empty because it was nothing more than a transition phase between areas. The night enemies while traversing Hyrule were a sneaky way of making it feel "alive," but the enemies are ironically lifeless skeletons. LoZ II was probably the first iteration of the open world experience in the LoZ franchise.

recently found the channel from an algorithm recommendation, but omg, I am HERE for an entire Zelda Opinions video, and your own tier list, if that's something you'd want to take the time to do. I could write a ton but I'll just stick to the question you asked, favorite Zelda Game of all time is probably Wind Waker. as a kid, it was among my first gaming experiences (that wasn't pokemon) and just....the story, the music, the adventure. it all resonates with me so much, even decades later. truly, it feels like the earliest Zelda game that's meditating on what it means to be Zelda, the thematic struggle between the King and Ganondorf, how the strict adherence to traditions has doomed them both, and how to accept the past and grow and move on, trusting in an uncertain future but doing your best while you're alive to plant the seeds of hope...story beats that are still relevant today, agh. I get chills just remembering that climax. love Zelda, love your ted talks, instant subbed, stay awesome 💜

I liked hearing your take on this legendary video WIth Ocarina being such an early incarnation of the 3D action adventure genre, playing it today it feels like much of it aged poorly purely because they were trying to bite off more than they could chew. It 100% deserves it's legacy but the platforming wasn't refined enough for timed runs, the analog tech wasn't ready for those intense shooting galleries and the lack of any real camera control was made way more of an issue than it needed to be with some of the gimmicks required to defeat certain enemies. Ocarina tried to run before it could walk and lost the ability to age gracefully due to it.

majora's mask was an EASY s tier game. just the darker tones of that game left such a strong impact. WW ended up being overlooked in favor of twilight princesses graphics, but ironically once people got over it and gave it a chance, it ended up being so much more iconic, enough to create its own spinoff series, and solidified toon link as a beloved link design.

I played most of the 3D Zelda games, and it's hard for me to place them all, but I know for me, S-Tier is Twilight Princess. I know for me, TP was the first video game I can remember that I followed for every little tid bit of information. It was a good time in my life, it was an early Christmas present, and I think I no life'd that game for an entire month. I loved everything about it, and it was the perfect Zelda game for my teenage hands to get a hold of. I know it's not perfect, the first 3 hours of the game suck, the Currents of Twilight railroad you for the first third of the game and a little bit into the second third. And yes, I know, it's a dark and gritty game that borrows heavily from Ocarina of Time. But it was still fantastic, and Midna is still the best partner character in any Zelda game, and it still my favorite to this day. The end of the game is one of the few that actually made me shed tears, it was so bittersweet and heartbreaking to see. I don't think anything has topped the sheer joy Twilight Princess has given me, and it was one of the few Zelda games I went out of my way to 100% too. Any excuse to replay Twilight Princess is a good enough excuse to me. Ocarina of Time is an easy S-Tier, first Zelda game I played and got me hooked on the series ever since. A game that I could pick up and play at any time, in any place, and be entertained. Timeless music and characters that are still referenced to this day. Still hoping for a port of the 3DS version for the Switch, or maybe just a straight ground up remake. Majora's Mask is an A-Tier. I don't like it as much as Oot, but it's truly dark story sets it apart from the rest of the games. When I was younger, I "didn't get" MM because it was so different in the way of progression of Oot. If you just do the Temples and nothing else, the game is harder than it needs to be. But when I came back to it as a teenager, I kinda understood the flow a lot better and appreciated the slow burn it was. It grew on me a lot, and it's fun to revisit every once in a while when I need something a little more gloomy. Windwaker is an B-Tier. Lower than Majora, but still fun. I'll admit, I wasn't super impressed by the cartoony art style of Windwaker at first. Felt like a real bait and switch from that Space World tech demo of Zelda we saw for the Gamecube. But, I was willing to give it a chance. And while I was a stupid kid, I bumbled my way through and enjoyed the game for what it was. There was something kind of magical sailing the Great Sea with the seagulls around the Red Lion. The last third however was a real drag... Tingle breaking my wallet in half for those Triforce Charts wasn't fun and took me a few months of on and off play to beat. I'm at least glad to hear Windwaker HD fixed so many of the issues the original had for the better. Not to mention, the cel-shaded graphics aged far better than Twilight Princess' "realism". Skyward Sword is C-Tier. I just couldn't stand the motion controls for more than a few hours. SS come out at a time when I think the world was finished with dealing with motion controls, and the fact there was no alternate mod of play was irksome. The story, while interesting, felt like such a back ad forth with no real progress getting done despite Link literally crating the Master Sword for the 1st ever time in Hyrule history. Fi was annoying, the worst aspects of Navi with none of the sass from Midna and Tael, just truly a robot with zero good things about her. Always reminding me of what I needed to do and when I needed to replace my batteries. I feel like for me the only things I liked were the Temples, Goose, and Ghirahim. Ghirahim was actually quite menacing for as foppy as he looks, not to mention was a challenge to fight. I think I just barely beat the game, if only out of spite, and traded it in for No More Heroes 2. I know the Switch has a "remaster" but it just looks like a lazy port with better texture work and an actual non-motion control option. But locking fast travel behind an Amiibo, no thanks. Breath of the Wild is B-Tier for me. While I loved this new direction for Zelda, I really missed the more classic elements of the series. Totaly freedom is fantastic, but ca be a little overwhelming on where to go first. The game is good at hinting you to places, but sometime getting there is the hard part. The shrines are neat little mini dungeon puzzles, but got a little boring after a while, especially considering some of the shrines just give you a prize for entering. The Divine Beasts are a mixed bag for me. Getting to "fight" them first in order to board them safely to purify them is fun, but some are really annoying to deal like (like Vah Darunia). Combat is also a little disappointing, I thought we'd have some more options, but it's rather bare, and the durability system wasn't fun. But I think the thing that drags down BOTW is that I find the game so much less fun on a 2nd playthrough. Sure, starting from the beginning with all the knowledge from the last playthrough is fun, but there aren't many interesting story beats in the game. Everything is told to you from a flashback, and none of the Champions really get flushed out. If I may be blunt, I think Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity scratched my itch for a story driven BOTW better than BOTW actually did itself. I only hope that Tears of the Kingdom really fixing the little thing that dragged in BOTW for me, and by the looks of the Fusion mechanic, it just might.

My personal Zelda experience: A link to the past is a fantastic one. A hell of a better than the first two Games Zelda Ocarina of Time : pretty much a story telling and open world masterpiece in its time! Zelda Majora’s Mask: pretty great game but the 3 day time limit breaks the experience for me. But the side quest are really great. You did have a good take on it. Wind Waker : i played the HD remake and it was a MASSIVE improvement thanks to the swift sale and fixed the Triforce piece gathering. That’s all for me, too bad they didn’t the rest of them!

@LilaoftheWind A thought in my mind had just occurred to me 7 or 8 years ago. What makes the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time both truly heartbreaking and depressing is out of all the Link reincarnations in different times, Young Link had his whole life broken in 3 separate timelines. Fallen hero timeline, child hero timeline, and adult hero timeline. It used to be 2 timelines back in 2002 until a few years later, there's a 3rd alternate timeline where the hero failed and is killed in battle by Ganon. Anyway, when you think about it for a minute, Young Link really had it the worst throughout his journey all the way to the end. Despite how far he had to endure in his travel, fighting enemies, doing quests, saving the world etc, no one in Hyrule remembered or recognized his accomplishments and how he helped there problems, because he's a victim to the flow of time. I mean, yes he does help everyone and get good rewards, but at the end of his journey, literally everyone has forgotten about the young/adult hero and how he saved the world. Except for Navi of course cause she's been with him from the beginning at his tree home. Young Link is the tragic ghost hero of time. Ever since he was born and growing up as a Kokiri kid, his whole life has been from bad to worse. Made fun of for not having a fairy companion except for Saria, the lovable Kokiri. Watches his father tree dies by the curse of Ganondorf. Leaving his only forest home and his childhood friend Saria behind. Pulls out the master sword out and get sealed where he accidentally doomed all of Hyrule to 7 dark years by Ganondorf's reign. Misses out on all of his childhood years. Told a huge bombshell lie that he's not a Kokiri blood and his real hylian parents are long deceased. Saves Hyrule, is sent back in time, and the only one left who has any idea that he did ANYTHING is Navi, abandons him forever. Searches for Navi for months on end, only to stumble upon Termina, where Epona is stolen, and he is turned into a Deku. Has to save ANOTHER land, which AGAIN, he is not recognized for. Comes back to Hyrule with full of regret and lingered for untold years until many years later, he dies. Also he never got a harem/polygamy since several girls really liked him (I don't know if the Hyrule world government laws accept polygamy or not). Jesus Christ, I couldn't quite literally tell on what Young Link is thinking throughout his own point of view in life, but I think that it's really painful for him when you think about it. His journey as a young hero wanting to save the world from the evil Ganondorf and becoming the adult hero of time, but not realizing that everyone is forgetting him about his accomplishments and recognizing him while he time travels via the temple of time's master sword room. Truly, out of all the hero Link reincarnations throughout across separate timeline games, Young Link is the poor unfortunate soul ghost hero of time that us viewers, gamers, and fans will never forget him and his accomplishments & recognized tragic character.

Everything you said about OoT is right - but the exact same reasoning could be used for ALttP. It was the birthplace for many Zelda staples, structurally, in terms of mechanics, music and so on. So if the legacy aspect doesn't redeem ALttP, it surely doesn't OoT either. :D Besides, ALttP has the best dungeons in any 2D Zelda game to this day imho. I'm usually more of a 3D Zelda guy but ALttP is the one exception I gladly return to every few years. Such a good game! On a seperate note: The N64 games are god tier and the best Zelda games overall to this very day.

BotW is C-Tier, because the story was kind of nonsensical. Also, the "payoff" of Zelda one-shotting Ganon like it was nothing, especially after complaining about she "can't hold him back," and how Ganon is "too powerful," was absolutely absurd and made me feel as though all the effort I put into literally discovering everything, was completely pointless.

really great hearing your takes. LttP is one of those Zelda titles i've never played fully. i've heard many a time that "it's a classic" and so on and i've always wanted to. its on SNES online so i can start it at anytime (i did just play all the 2d metroids in the leadup to dread so i should knock out LttP at some point) Ocarina remains my top fave after all these years. always fun to go back to!

I like Link Between worlds personally, and also Link's awakening, which I first played on the 3DS, and weirdly enough the control stick actually works great with that game.

Unrelated to this, but I highly recommend checking out and reacting to The Scratched Universe by Blackimus. While it's no Emesis Blue (also recommend checking out if you like psychological horror), it's pretty close when it comes to horror.

I've only played Ocarina of Time (no idea where I stopped but I know I didn't finish it), like an hour of Wind Waker, 4-5 hours of Twilight Princess, and enough BOTW to drive me literally insane. I got to grow up in the 90's with some of the earlier titles and had no idea they even existed. I was a Mario and Mega-Man X kid, then I got obsessed with FPS games. I wish Nintendo would just... make it easier to play the older games. I want to catch up on what I missed out on.

I constantly hear people loving ALttP. Egoraptor made an entire video on why he thinks it's better than OoT. I'm not a big fan of either of them, the first Zelda I really liked was BotW, but the idea that nobody talks about ALttP is just not true. Maybe it's just me, but if a game has a randomizer that mixes it with Super Metroid, it's gotta be at least somewhat popular.

I loved the OOT and MM should not have been priced like a full game. I think one has to 100% complete that to milk it. Both deserve S tier. As for Wind Waker, I loved it as well but the ending was bad. No continuation and no saved ending file. I have to put that under A.

MM: By the end of the game, _almost_ everybody is saved. Poor Deku... It was quite a unique game. There's never been a Zelda game since that had a overarching time limit with a literal moon trying to smash you. WW: Link is badass! He killed Ganondorf while the Hero of Time could only seal him away!

Of the Zelda games I finished, I think it's a toss up in my mood for Link's Awakening, or OoT. I've sadly only finished 4 of the games despite owning about 6 of them, and playing at least 8 or more of them at some point.
