How to ACTUALLY use copyrighted music LEGALLY in 2024 🤫

so, this video in its entirety is an ad. Out of curiosity, what motivates the decision to film and release an ad as an individual video, vs recording a segment for lickd as an ad within another video as a sponsorship segment? Is it when you think the ad itself is informative enough that it can stand on its own? Or do some contracts specify that your payment is for making a separate video that is, in its entirety, an ad for a service? I ask because I can see in the recommended videos next to this one other videos that are, in the end, just ads for lickd, with similar runtimes and titles.

From what I know, stores who play music have to pay a hefty fee to be able to license and play that music. That’s why budget stores usually don’t play music, to keep prices low. My assumption (emphasis on assumption) is that karaoke bars legally pay some license too

The reaction channels that actually make money off of the videos typically have developed a relationship with the record labels over time. The labels realize that a massive channel is potentially millions of new eyes on their artists music so they will *whitelist* that channels video so that they can use it and make money, because them not taking the revenue from a reaction video will cost them less than traditional marketing and potentially have more guaranteed upside. Whereas the average person without that relationship cannot do those same things. I don't know how the process specifically works and gets sorted at a major label level, but for a small independent artist it would like something like this. If I was to upload a song using Distro kid and you wanted to use it in a song, you send me the link and then I put that link in Distro kid as an exception and you are clear to use it in that video.

You are able to dispute claims and state that you’re not using the song or video just to play it and that it’s altered via the reaction. If they don’t respond after a certain amount of days you can keep it all. Most people know who they can react too and what companies will block or ask for money.

they use the gap in youtubes copyright rules called "fair use", this basically says you can put other stuff in ur vids if you comment on it, repurpose it and other stuff, it gets very complicated to understand this system tho and it gets even more difficult when it comes to monetization...

@@HannahMojave of course it’s what you can do as a creator, but that is the way it should be because professionals when they make content and they want to add other people’s copyrighted works into their content. They pay them and if they don’t have the money to pay fundraisers or work out in agreement to share potential revenue, etc. A lot of musicians who need that revenue of their work to survive not releasing music. We all love that you want to use in your project, anyone were able to just dis Tribout the music totally for free because then making good music would not be a profitable career for them. Part of making films or how’s etc is raising money to pay for this stuff. It’s part of the industry. We may not think about that aspect when we were watching a show that we enjoyed or hear commercial with an awesome song but it’s objectively a good thing that We pay people to use their intellectual property.

Lickd has contracts with certain labels but not all, so when you can’t find it on lickd doesn’t mean fair game. It just means you can’t license it through lickd.

At some point old music becomes common usage, in 1978 it became a law that when a work of art like music's creator has passed, it will remain copyrighted for 70 years and then become common use. Music created before is copyright free so that can include a lot of old classics. But if a modern artist would cover a song, their cover would probably get a new copyright for that specific recording. Some artist don't actually enforce copyright for their songs; Gotye's Somebody That I Used to Know is not monetized, as he wanted for other creatives to be able to use his song in their projects. Also kpop companies don't really enforce copyright all that much, cause they tend to get free marketing that way; the more people can talk about the songs and spread clips of the music, the more people will come across the songs

Hi Amy! Firstly, I would get in touch with epidemic because that’s not supposed to happen. Everything you publishing during your active subscription should be covered forever! Re: lickd - their subscription is for their stock library. If you license a mainstream song, the video should not get copyrighted in the future. You will get a license document that will say you are covered in perpetuity. Please read their FAQ for more info :) this is what their website says “How long is my license valid for? Forever! The majority of our licenses are granted in perpetuity so there’s no danger of your video ever being taken down.”

I’m so confused with all these copyright rules like, I get it! song copyright, can’t used without permission. But I’m in the animation meme community, and I see copyrighted songs getting used everyday. Some animation memes gets trendy and then a lot of people do them! But nothing happens to thier channels what I’ve seen. 4:11 Background songs I’ve been hearing? Watching on my phone, audio on medium, and could only barely hear the hint of a background track a couple of times. Not sure if I’m the only one, but if you’re intending to have some ambient background here, might wanna increase the levels a smidge..
