Same exact issue here . I do add fiber on occasion. Berries and avocado . I just had watermelon last night because I was having a heavy ice cream sugar craving and chose that instead . What was your age, weight and what was your a/1c and insulin levels at there highest? I am 60 years old and have eaten the SAD diet all my life. Was 275 lbs in 2017 and lost 40lbs before even doing keto, just stopped eating junk food. Started low carb, less than 20-30 grams a day in 2019 Over the past few years lost some weight but pretty much stalled in the 220’s-230’s. My a/1c has been in the pre diabetic range and only got to 6.1 at its highest but got it to 5.3 over the past few years. All of my cholesterol levels doubled and triglycerides did not come down. By listening to this guy, I am now fixing my health by exercising and limiting saturated fats and more protein. What he says, at least for me is my cells are loaded with fat, and stuffing my cells with more saturated fats is not healthy for a very insulin resistant person.

@@prestomattwine No idea what my Alc and Insulin was at the highest, never tested, never diagnosed. I just know in retrospect, from what I know now I had to have been diabetic, my doctor agrees. At 64 I went keto, stopped adding sugar and junk food, then weaned off anything hypoglycemic while dramatically increasing vegetables. The result was a drop in weight from 265 pound to 172 kg in 5 months. At lowest fat % got to 4%. My swollen legs and ruptured left foot ligaments healed very rapidly. I went from only being able to walk 50 meters without a rest to jogging 7 k in the hills every day. I joined a Cross Fit box and got 3rd in my country for the 2019 CrossFit Open in +60 male masters, then 2nd in 2020, getting 11th highest score in my CrossFit box that had a lot of young athletes.. I was 65 and 15 years older than anyone else, the average being 32. I had gained muscle mass, weight was 85 kg. Then the problems kicked in. I developed bad gut issues, a through inguinal hernia, joint and soft tissue issues, from consuming all those oxalates, fiber and little or no healthy fat. I was living off body fat. I am largely fixed now by eliminating all fruit and vegetables and eat only animal protein, mainly red meat, eggs and very high animal fat. All health markers are optimal. Trig / HDL was 0.34 at last test. Now just lifting HIT, 69 year old with a 99.6 percentile on Strengthlevel.com. Over eating healthy fat does not increase weight for me, overeating protein does. But I think it will differ depending on the individual, and these things will change as our metabolism changes. Also it there is the dynamic between sleep, stress, exercise, genetics and food to bring into the equation. No one formula fits all and it will change as the above dynamics change. Good luck with you journey, keep it up. 👍👍

How do you expect someone to have a brief interview and give every exception, for 9 BILLION a people?! You’d be better off delving into WHY your body reacts so vehemently to fruit and veg. SIBO? Enzyme problems ? GERD? I have crohns and cannot tolerate raw veggies during a flare or things with seeds but I don’t expect him to give every single exception as nauseum. Obviously the most pragmatic choice would be talking to the masses.

If his views of high fat making diabetes worse were true there would be no reversal of diabetes in such high rate on keto and carnivore diets. Also keto keeps recurring in all kinds of fields MS, cancer, psychiatry, metabolic issues and so on. If it was making us worse, we wouldn’t see that. Also equating carbs with fat is a huge mistake (which also Ben Bikman seconds) there are two totally different fuel sources, equating everything as energy has missed completely the point.

I would be desperately unhappy on carnivore. I do better on a protein priority plan with adequate fat and carbs just as he outlined. Some people “need” more low glycemic carbs because they are volume eaters and eating 5# of steak in a sitting is not a great idea . And rather than plain steak they’d probably enjoy more a steak with a large caesar salad (no croutons) . It’s amazing how many commenters here still haven’t learned that there is no 1 perfect way for 9 billion people. We each have preferences. It doesn’t mean he’s “wrong” simply because you thrive without veggies. In fact Lillie herself thrives without veggies and she never called him out or told him he was wrong.

Preface: I am overweight. I’ve gone up and down in weight on many diets. So I agree there. BUT the only time my hormones regulated or I got my period back was when adding a lot of fat. Nothing I did, including Mounjaro (like ozempic but more powerful) to curb my leptin and grelin. I realized I never knew the “full” feeling. Until I added lots of fat. I’ve worked with doctors and monitored my whole journey over the years. When I was eating high fat it was still quality organic local foods (mostly). But it didn’t matter. I had to push through the hunger. When adding high fat I feel calm at ease, and don’t get ravenous. So medically, and emotionally it was a huge game changer. I don’t know how this guy is saying what he’s saying. It’s ridiculous

@missmisto7261 I agree about the need to experiment to find out what works for you. But I also think that even as general advice, his approach is far from ideal. He starts with the premise that being as lean as possible equals optimal health, which is at best a dubious presupposition. Also, there is no evidence whatsoever to support that more than 0.7-0.8 gram of protein per pound of body weight is needed for muscle protein synthesis, even for those who are trying to build muscle. For people who are at their optimal weight, eating high protein relative to fat and/or carbs, or just an absolute amount of protein that is higher than what is needed, doesn't lead to satiety or to feeling well. It's a set-up for feeling hungry and crappy. The body needs energy from either fat or carbs in adequate amounts for satiety and for feeling happy and energetic. Yes, you can fill your stomach and be lean by eating chicken breast and fibrous plants, but I would rather have a smile on my face and not be as snarky as he often comes across by eating my tallow and meat.

The fat threshold hypothesis isn't sufficient to explain why an athlete who is way below their fat threshold would develop type 2 diabetes. However, the fructose consumption theory does explain it. Fat gain in the liver with sugar consumption is identical to fat gain in the liver from alcohol. This means that liver and visceral fat can be gained independently from subcutaneous fat. Therefore, you can have damaging effects from sugar consumption even as a pro athlete. Looking at any athletic beverage would show tons of added sugar. They think it's just energy, extra calories to be burned.

I'd like to thank you for this content. I am new to the #Carnivore way of eating. For me, I have eaten every diet known to man. I have always has very active jobs. My last career, my average day of work I walked 6 to 14 miles a day. I did this for 21 years. I eat the standard America pyramid as directed by my doctors. I tracked my food daily from 2005 to 2019. I had wins but mostly losses and the doctors were confused. The only diet that has ever worked for me in the past was #keto . Even then, it was short term wins as another health issue appeared. About 120 days ago, I learned of the #Carnivore lifestyle. And 90ish days ago, I started #carnivore I started to move the scale moved backwards as I started @317 pounds. 14 days later, I was 304 pounds. I then went to #Ketovore. For the next few weeks I only lost 2 pounds. I felt ok but the scale did not move like I thought it would. 12 days ago now I started full #bbbe and I have dropped another 6 pounds as of yesterday. I am.most impressed by all the people that have reversed so many health issues. That more than weight is the goal of most #carnivores that I have followed and have even spoke to. As for doctors, yes they bring credibility to all sides for sure. I respect all doctors but with that said, not all doctors are equal. Every doctor I have had just don't understand what they prescribed when it comes to diet. Most just have a day or two in school that covers the topic. In the end, staying active is key. One needs to decide which works for them and if they need or want to burn carbs or fat. For Big Guys like myself, we need to do #Carnivore to get the weight off. Onces it's off, I believe the body will be reset and running healthy. At that time, cycling from #Carnivore and #keto will be what works plus body movement. As for me, I have about 90 pounds to go as I am now 288 pounds as of yesterday. I believe I will stay mostly #Carnivore to reach the ideal weight. Then maintain with both Keto & Carnivore. To balance out this conversion, maybe interview Dr. Ken Berry and or Dr. Anthony Chaffee. Both are very knowledgeable doctors and are open to healthy decisions about #diet. Thanks again, #theretiredfatguy 🎉

I was on the Carnivore bandwagon for a year too watching Dr. Anthony Chaffee. I just recently got off, and added back in fruit and honey, after watching Dr. Paul Saladino's videos about adding in fruit and honey. He did strict carnivore for about 1.5 years and then his electrolytes got all out of whack. He's doing much better eating fruit and honey now. I feel the same way as I was completely brainwashed with the Carnivore channels, but started having no energy and my blood sugar started going up. Now I feel so much better and my weight loss is continuing. I think Carnivore has its place as an elimination Diet, it helped me see that wheat was causing my severe osteoarthritis pain in my left knee, but now after adding in the fruit and honey, I am still pain free. I've also been watching other videos to the talk about long-term ketosis can raise your cortisol and actually cause insulin resistance. So many of the Carnivore channels I was watching, the people are all cheating now too. It's just not sustainable long-term for the average person...and completely boring too.😂. Oh, and one other bonus, once you start getting your electrolytes from fruits, you probably won't be having all the carb addictions either. However, if you want to supplement with something, you should try magnesium. It's really good for sugar cravings, especially chocolate. A lot of people are deficient in magnesium.

In an ideal situation where people are metabolically healthy, sure, they dont have to worry about insulin levels. Folks who have chronically evaluated insulin levels, however, are fat because insulin is a fat storage hormone. So, if insulin can't get glucose into the cells because they have a surplus of glucose molecules in the blood, the excess insulin will store as fat. After many years of this vicious cycle folks develop visceral fat on the organs as well as where their body stores the most fat. In most guys it's the belly. In women it's the hips. Once the body can't store anymore insulin you become diabetic. To stop this cycle, a very low carb diet is the answer because the body is not stimulating the pancreas to excreted large amounts of insulin since there isn't large volumes of glucose present. Because your body is now in ketosis the stored fat can now be used as energy or burned off. This is why the carnivore diet works so well in losing fat.

This podcast has a huge misconception about fat. It presents fats as a source of energy only. Fats m major building blocks of human cells. Most Humans cells are mainly composed of 50% fats and 50% of proteins. So, fats are major compounds for hormones. Brain is one of the major structures that composed of mostly fats as a major building block. If bone is deprived of fat, it will not last one second. So, limiting fats as source of energy is purely ignorance about cell biology. It is as important as protein if it is not more. The increase in Lipoproteins on ketogenic diet is a sign that your body is starving for lipids and it is starting to heal itself. Never fear an increase in fat levels. It is a good sign in the way of healing.

I've never been too keen on Dr Naiman. While his opinion may have some merit when it comes to Protein intake I really think he misses the boat. Most of us eating this way is because of some metabolic issue and too much protein might be more harmful than good. This is where I feel OMAD might not be smart when taking in too much protein in one meal. Unless one is very active like Shawn Baker or even Dr Chaffee. I do feel many of us perhaps could use more protein in our diets. Also I think there is a HUGE difference between too much fat vs too much sugar/carbs.

Brining on a doctor yet I hear mainly his own opinion not straight up facts. He says you have to eat 80 pounds of carrots to get 2000 kcal, which should tell you we did not evolve eating carrots. Volume eaters will get used to eating less, or you can use a small plate which will make your brain think it’s large volumes. He also talks about if you want to get lean and focus on protein etc, you will end up getting hormonal issues if you go low or cut lots of fat out, many body builders and bikini models are very unhealthy. I listened to Bart Kay about why people’s blood works gets worse after 1 year and it has nothing to do with fat being bad for you, highly recommend to check it out! More likely under eating.

I always enjoy your content Lilllie, but this doctor doesn't know enough about diabetics and glucose / insulin control to have his input just absorbed without critical thought. For example, a blood sugar spike is not a big deal if your blood sugar levels return to baseline in 2-3 hours...but that is not the case with diabetics or people who are not metabolically healthy. Theirs spikes higher, and stays higher longer. In their case, a blood sugar spike after a meal (if that meal significantly raises their blood sugar level) is a very big deal.

Agree with the higher proteins approach. Don't agree with moderate carbs. There are plant toxins that can't be dismissed. It may not affect Ted but does not mean it does not affect others. What he found like Saladino, works FOR HIM. Naturally fruits and salads people eat would not be available hundreds of years ago nor year round. And lastly I do agree that keto/carnivore is not a fat eating competition. Prioritize proteins and micronutrients

Beg to differ. Fat does NOT increase my blood glucose which I check 4-5 times a day by fingerstick. Protein will increase it, but nothing raises blood sugars like carbs, and while we are all very individual in how our body reacts to food, I would guess that most people have this same experience if they are metabolically challenged.

Absolutely :) Initially most people avoiding sugar should see weight loss :) Maybe check out the video with Dr Robert Cywes where he goes more in depth on what he sees with the blood work with his patients who continue to eat a high fat diet for 10+ years. Eating a high fat diet can be very healthy. The problem can lie when people's metabolism slows down after years and years of eating the same amount of food (no matter what diet someone is eating) and therefore, if they continue to eat the same amount of food, they would technically be "over eating" as their metabolism has slowed down and when overeating, gain weight occurs.

You don't know what you are talking about. At 65 years old after dieting my WHOLE life, I finally went higher fat carnivore and the fat melted off (I did have to lose the cheese, since that was stalling me). Now, at 70, I am on no medications (I wasn't before either since I lived primarily paleo prior to carnivore -- I just couldn't lose weight or sustain any weight loss), I can walk and run, I have stamina, I lost inflammation, gained muscle without even exercising - my body "re-organized" itself, replacing fat with muscle. I had suffered life long constipation, only to discover it was the sugar/grains and those "healthy" vegetables that were doing the dirty deed. I have had no joint replacements. I have girlfriends of similar age who are vegetarian and ALL of them have had either or both knee and hip replacements; some have arthritis problems, back problems, and are on blood pressure medicine. You need to look into the science vegetables and lectins and oxylates.

Wrong. Wrong and wrong. Ask Chaffee. Your body can only absorb so much fat in a day. If you overdue fat, it loosens your stool, that's it. It won't make you fat. Salads aren't appealing once you're a carnivore, so why would you eat one. ?? It will cause you lower back pain and inflammation in the morning. It's not about being afraid to eat a salad. The question is, why would you when there's no nutritional value and it does wreak your system over time. Hello!!!!

This is why I say that diabetes is a foodborne illness rather than a metabolic. True metabolism does play a roll-in diabetes but I have seen people like yourself who are thin or in your words underweight and are diabetic. And I think it has to do with the quality of food that people eat. Now I'm not a doctor I don't work in a lab I have no means to prove my theory but if somebody wants to take it and prove me right or wrong go for it.

So he phrased it this way because the vast majority develop obesity before diabetes. But obesity doesn’t cause diabetes (as we know, since underweight people can be diabetic, and people doing gastric surgery can resolve their diabetes in under 2 weeks when they’ve barely lost any weight) The answer is , the cause is insulin resistance. IR a causes both diabetes and obesity (among other things). It’s just that MOST people get fat before diabetic but not all do. So in your case you need to eat to lower your insulin resistance. Having an eating window will help (do not lower your calories is already underweight!) . If you’re looking for healthy gains, focus on protein priority, healthy fat like avocado, salmon, hemp hearts, nuts , full fat Greek yogurt, evoo, etc. It’s hard to know the direct cause of your IR being underweight (could be unlucky genetics , tons of carbs, or eating small snacks all the time so your insulin remains elevated) . Less carbs and a 18:6 may be enough by itself to reduce your insulin.
@craigemmerich
@craigemmerich 11 ай бұрын
Limiting carbohydrates of course but also being careful about fat. If you are insulin resistant at a low weight that means you have a very low personal fat threshold so don’t have a lot of fat cells and they get stuffed very quickly. We have had clients that were 110 pounds and insulin resistant due to very low personal fat threshold.

If you are underweight and prediabetic: first determine all your blood markers. Verify no other underlying condition exist. Next avoid cardio type workouts and go to resistance training workouts to add muscle tissue. This will be slow process. Ensure you are eating correctly and sufficient volume based on your body size. Ensure you are getting sufficient sleep. Avoid stress. Very important is to get a surplus of quality meat / egg protein. As always avoid processed foods and junk. Eat whole foods. And YES, for some people their is an ethnic background / genetic aspect to your health. DNA testing may be helpful but not required. For example many Asians are thin diabetics. They under eat protein, lack resistance exercise, many are not happy in life so the hormones in the brain are out of balance and over eat rice. Again just an example.
