@metallfan2k7 - true, 100%. Especially considering the history. Such as people still think that "Ride the Lightning" is about being electrocuted... But in fact both "Ride the Lightning" and "Master of Puppets" are about... drugs. So when listening to both those songs, there is actually much deeper meaning there. Amazing, considering the fact that at that time, those guys were just above 20 years old (when both albums were created). And let's not forget... Cliff Burton, as pretty much most of the stuff there was his creativity.

@sashthrash2 жыл бұрын
Fun fact: Spit Out The Bone is a song made from their history. The distorted bass part reflecting on Cliff with his distorted bass parts and solos, in the intro you can hear an open chord ringing out with fast drums in the background kind of like Whiplash and a few other songs on Kill 'Em All that did that. And one of the solos was even like the solos Kirk played on Kill 'Em All. "Reinvent the earth inhabitant" which is one of the lyrics in this song kind of makes you think about Blackened from And Justice For All. I think there was more than that but I cannot remember anything else.

I cruised around in my car with my buds smokin bud everyday after school and the weekends just blasting Metallica. I remember the first songs that got me hooked were Am I Evil, Seek And Destroy, Creeping Death, and Jump In The Fire. Seek and Destroy and Disposable Heroes were the first songs I learned to play on guitar and went on to learn many more Metallica songs. Also I agree, early Metallica was the best for me as well. If thrash metal is something you would like to check out, here are some suggestions for bands: 1) Anthrax - hailing from NYC, they were very unique as a thrash metal band for using dark humor and often used fictional characters from comics or literature... Songs to check out - 'A.I.R.' ... 'Caught in a mosh'... 'Time'... 'Schism'. 2) Exodus - founded by Kirk Hammett (who left to join Metallica), they were all about a shredding good time... Songs to check out - 'Bonded by blood'... 'Impact is imminent'... 'Impaler'... 'Persona non grata' 3) Kreator - formed in Essen, W. Germany in the 80's, they led the German thrash metal hordes into global prominence... Check out - 'Extreme aggression'... 'When the sun burns red'... 'Violent revolution'... 'Flag of hate' 4) Slayer - hailing from California, they met Metallica in the L.A. scene in 1982, and they were a mix of punk rock and extreme thrash metal... one of the 'Big 4' of thrash metal... Check out - 'Angel of death'... 'The Antichrist'... 'War ensemble'... 'Ghosts of war'. 5) Megadeth - masterminded by Dave Mustaine after being fired from Metallica, they went through an evolution away from thrash in the 90's as well, but their early songs include - 'Wake up dead'... 'Hook in mouth'... "Devil's island" ... 'Skull beneath the skin'. 6) Manowar - technically not a thrash metal band, but they had fury in their early days... Check out the songs - 'Wheels of fire'... 'Kill with power'... 'Violence and bloodshed'... 'The demon's whip'. 7) Testament - despite having similarities to early Metallica, they were able to carve their own place in the thrash realm... Check out - 'Into the pit'... 'Over the wall'... 'Practice what you preach'... 'Trial by fire' 8) Death - formed in Florida by (the late) guitarist & vocalist Chuck Schuldiner, this band re-shaped extreme metal in the 80's and helped usher the death metal genre... Check out - 'Zombie ritual'... 'Suicide machine' ... 'Living monstrosity'... 'Pull the plug'.

Fight Fire with Fire is also another great one from that Album. Creeping Death talks about liberation of slaves under the Egyptians. You already listened to Trapped Under Ice, Fade to Black, Ride the Lightning and For Whom the Bell Tolls so that pretty much covers all the album. Most Metallica fans agree that their first 5 albums are the best of their career... 'Ride the Lightning' (1984) was their 2nd album and is my favorite Metallica record - shredding heavy from start to finish (8 tracks) from the brutally fast 'Fight fire with fire' to the closing cinematic instrumental 'The call of Ktulu'... every song is a keeper 🔥🔥🤘🤘 One record that u can check out on KZbin is Metallica's 7-song demo 'No life til leather' recorded in 1982 w/ Dave Mustaine (Megadeth) on lead guitar and bassist Ron McGovney... Cliff Burton (bass) joined in 1983, and then Kirk Hammett (lead guitar) replaced Mustaine a few months later and recorded the debut album "Kill 'em all"... All the demo songs appeared on "Kill 'em all", but one track "Mechanix" was re-written and became 'The four horsemen'... Dave Mustaine recorded "Mechanix" w/ Megadeth. "Kill 'em all" was as raw and fast as Metallica could get... the band was broke, desperate and financed entirely by then-manager (and Megaforce label heads) Johnny & Marsha Zazula in 1983... the record was hands-down better than all the records that year by bands like Anthrax, Slayer, Manowar, Exciter, etc. Touring for the first time, Metallica went to Europe and recorded 'Ride the Lightning' in 1984 in Denmark... this time, they were financed by European label Music For Nations. The 2nd record was an angrier, heavier and deeper album than "Kill 'em all". Fan favorite 3rd album 'Master of Puppets' was recorded in 1985 as they were touring like crazy all year. They had been signed in America by Elektra Records and had better management and promotion... Released in 1986, 'Master of Puppets' became Metallica's first gold-selling album as the band opened for Ozzy Osbourne on tour. Sadly, it was the last to feature bassist Cliff Burton, who was killed in a bus accident on tour in Europe. 'Master of Puppets' had better production and sound quality from better financing - stellar album overall. Songs include - 'Battery'... 'Welcome home (Sanitarium)'... 'Disposable heroes'... the instrumental 'Orion'. With bassist Jason Newsted joining in 1986, the 4th album 'And Justice for all' was released in 1988, but drummer Lars Ulrich decided to fade out Newsted bass in the mix, so the album came out a little dry-sounding... However, it is a unique metal record and there is no album like it out there. Metallica were making longer songs and rather than go fast, they went 'go heavy' and it truly shone w/ tracks like 'Blackened'... 'One'... 'Eye of the beholder'... 'Harvester of sorrow'. It sold platinum faster than 'Master of Puppets'. The self- titled 'black' album by Metallica became their first #1 album... Producer Bob Rock was brought in and was able to pare down the aggression and deliver concise, powerful songs from Metallica, which would appeal to audiences on MTV and radio... The thrash metal was gone, but they still delivered a powerful album that sold over 16 million copies in the USA, w/ songs like 'Enter Sandman'... 'Sad but true'... 'Wherever I may roam'... 'Of wolf and man'.
