Beautiful to hear native speakers. The absence of an English accent is very noticeable compared to what we hear most of the time.

Galánta ar fad! Iontach suimiúil an scéal sin. “Knife in the wave” an t-ainm atá air as Béarla. Sin an scéal an traidisiúnta in Éirin.

Wow the tune she carries at the very beginning reminds me so much of Appalachian mountain ballads in America. I know they're related, but its a little crazy how similar they really seem. Here's an example of one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoWVeGCFqrerjKc

You’re absolutely correct to see a connection. I think you’d enjoy this video I made about the ways British and Irish music was preserved in Appalachia. If includes a large section on Jean Ritchie’s songs! kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4aqoIqtfLCqiaM I think the tune you pointed out at the start of this clip is actually closer to “O Love is Teasing”, which Jean Ritchie also sang... but she learnt it from a friend in Ireland rather than from her Appalachian community.

Ta de dhith orainn aistriuchán Gaelige don seo. Tá se ana dheacair é a thuiscint gan ag feachaint ar aistriuchán bearla.

Even the KZbin translation of what you have said is erroneous. Ach tá an ceart agat. Is rud deasa é a mbeadh aistriúchán as Gaeilge comh maith más féidir linn.
