I met Rob Paulsen at a convention a couple years back and told him that, even though I've heard his voice in countless things, I always associate him with 625/Reuben. My problem with the anime was how they handled the lack of Lilo. If they had given Lilo a proper goodbye where she goes to college and Stitch decides to go traveling instead of it setting Lilo up as an uncaring person, it would have been so much better. Nothing about Lilo's character feels like she wouldn't visit/call Stitch in the 10+ years she's been gone. Even with the miscommunication, I doubt Lilo wouldn't try to repair the relationship or anything. They could have just started it off with a "Lilo is at college so Stitch decides to see the world" or had it as a "what if?" series.

It's kind of funny, I had watched the documentary on the making of Lilo and Stitch and the creator said the ad campaign where Stitch harasses other Disney characters was his idea. Basically, they weren't sure how to market him or introduce Stitch to an audience as a brand new character, since Disney had always used characters that people were already familiar with (excluding Lion King). So he thought it would be funny to have skits where Stitch, whose story is about finding out where he belongs and being a misfit, enters into other well-known movies and messes them up. I don't think it was trying to go along with "it's cool to hate Disney" but was just trying to be a fun and quirky way to introduce this new character that some people might find off-putting at first glance.
@PosthumanHeresy4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the way I took it as a kid was more in fitting with the themes of the movies. He really doesn't belong in Disney prior to this, which makes fitting him into those situations comedic because of the inherent disconnect between the two. Really? That’s reassuring! I saw like the first episode and refused to watch any further because Lilo & Stitch was basically the most important piece of media from my childhood, and Lilo the most important character, and I just couldn’t stand them trampling all over the theme of loving chosen family like that. I refuse to believe Lilo & Stitch weren’t best friends until Lilo died. I say Lilo because I feel like Stitch is probably immortal unless he has something happen to his genetic code or whatever like almost happened to him in Stitch Has a Glitch.
@otaking35824 жыл бұрын
@@Canonicallycreative Yeah, the English dub in general was weird. For one thing, L&S's creator, Chris Sanders, had left Disney to work for DreamWorks because of creative differences over American Dog (the film that would eventually become Bolt), and since Chris was also the voice of Stitch, they had to get someone else to fill those shoes. Also, I'm guessing that Disney thought Stitch's popularity was starting to die off, because the English dub only aired in Australia. At least Legends of the Three Caballeros eventually got released on Disney+, but no such luck with the Stitch anime! I always figured the experiments looked more and more like Stitch the closer the number got to 626 because Jumba was prideful in Stitch being his best in the film. So 625, Angel, and Leroy being almost exact copies but with different quirks made sense
@misterzygarde64314 жыл бұрын
I think Stitch and Ai would be a lot more well received if it was about Stitch being cloned. Which could explain why Stitch could turn giant. Stitch did get kidnapped by a gang of space criminals so having them clone him to create an army would make sense. Also they should’ve kept the original plot of the Stitch anime where it was a what if story that has Stitch in Japan in the dub.
@misterzygarde64314 жыл бұрын
Dracone1024 Apparently until the third season, the Stitch anime seemed to be a show that asked what would happen if Stitch landed in Japan instead of Hawaii. I was saying they should’ve had the dub leave out the lines that tried to make it so that it was set after the series. They should’ve just advertised the show as a story asking if what would’ve happened if Stitch landed somewhere else.
@kronemerj4 жыл бұрын
@@misterzygarde6431 I mean either way they eventually Abandoned the idea in season 3 for the lilo appearance.
@Canonicallycreative4 жыл бұрын
MisterZygarde64 Honestly, they could have explained it so many ways. They could have had it be that Lilo was in college and the dorm wouldn’t let her keep Stitch, and he didn’t want to get her into trouble anymore, so he decided to go on his own adventure travelling the world for a few years, (bonus points that that could have also explained the Chinese spin-off and opened the doors for two more global spin-offs, one for every year Lilo would be in college.) Or maybe there was some sort of experiment phenomenon localized in Japan, but Lilo’s life was too tied to Hawaii, or maybe Lilo and Stitch have a penpal in Japan and Stitch just wants to visit her but Lilo couldn’t go, and then something goes wrong and he has to stay longer. So many possibilities that would have left the message of the original films in tact. Also like... why couldn’t Lilo just come with him? They could have still had the other main little girl be Japanese, and had her and Lilo be best friends who team up, (bonus points for heart-warmingness that Lilo finally gets the friend her own age she always wanted!)

Flarestorm There was one episode where Mrs Hasagawa (the recurring tiny old lady character) accidentally activated a whole bunch of them at once, but because she was slightly senile (or possibly just nearsighted) she mistook all of them for weird cats and adopted them. And then at the end of the episode they just let her keep them. Including the one that spits acid.

Luckily, being a tropical island, it never rains. Good thing too. It would be catastrophic if they all activated, but thankfully it doesn’t rain ever, so that was avoided. Tropical islands aren't known for heavy rainfall anyway. Certainly not during typhoon season.

The reason the anime is so different is that Eastern audiences actually love Stich but hate Lilo because of the way she behaved in the movie and how it could be a "bad influence" on their kids so they tend to omit her from alot of Eastern media. Stich and Scrump are both super popular though.
