I've heard this in my Grandma's kitchen. She used to sing to us, even, sometimes. She was Polish. I never understood it was old school Aramaic Catholic and Gypsy style love of God. But she was a farmers' wife and she was so happy all the time. I'm going to miss her so much ❤️ this kind of music and making peace trips to Israel to find our relatives is all I have left to remember her or any of our family....

Best rendition of Ederlezi I've ever heard! I haven't heard this since I was a child. Omg...my mom had this on an old Hungarian recording with gipsy violinist Sándor Lakatos or Lajos Boross (if my memory serves me correctly) She would have loved this! When there is nothing left, there is only your voice to heaven, a voice that cries from your heart; a joy steeped in sorrows, that holds nothing back.

This song was made and first sung by the Serbs who was on a train from Sarajevo to most brutal and notorious concentration camp in history of the world "Jasenovac" where 800 000 Serbs were killed by croats from 1941. to 1945.! Those who survived wrote it down and sang it, so it is preserved. Original song is called Djurdjevdan - Saint George's Day! This song is latter borrowed by Goran Bregovic who adapted it to the Emir Kusturica movie "Time of the gypsies" in 1988. Btw, Croats even had concentration camps for children, no one in history has had it!
