People say the Wonderbolts were too harsh in kicking Lightning Dust out...let me put it this way that was getting off easy. I've never served in the military but I'm pretty sure people have been sent to the brig for lesser offenses

The problem there is that Spitfire didn't object to Lightning Dust's behavior until Rainbow Dash explicitly spelled things out. I'm pretty sure most real-life militaries actually supervise cadets in training, at least where things could get dangerous.

Shivam Kamil This is where it gets good. Wind Rider knowing that Dust (who's either a relative, student, or something else) might get caught, takes a dive (frames himself) so as not to get Lightning into more trouble with the wonderbolts. He may have even helped her in the revenge scheme knowing that he'd be caught.

Well military training should be tough, i dare say tough to the point where one would choose to leave if they think they cant cut it. There's a difference between being tough, and being unnecessarily brutal. You're not going to get anywhere by demoralizing someone. In fact, demoralization is probably the worst thing you could ever due to a solider if you want them to fight effectively. Considering the joke was mocking a Marine Corp reject who said an extremely reductionist thing about criticism of the military, I think it was VERY well planned out.
