When I watched that Rarity episode for the first time with my little sisters, I was absolutely shocked and disgusted. My 6 year old sister LITERALLY said "Ew, it's bad for grownups to have a crush on kids,". A LITERAL CHILD CAN UNDERSTAND THE BASIC CONCEPT, HOW DID THE WRITER NOT PICK UP ON THAT? Edit: Rarity's behavior in this episode is something I would expect from the main character of fucking YANDERE SIMULATOR.

Yeah, I feel like childrens media pushing the whole idea that children should always unconditionally love their parents and forgive them no matter what is the sort of thing that can have a lot of unintended negative consequences. I suppose it's not an actively harmful lesson for kids in a 100% healthy and stable household, but it turns really toxic the instant it's applied to an unhealthy of abusive parent/child relationship.

Wait.... I'm NOT the only one who hated Dragon Dropped? All my friends called me weird for not loving the ending but I still thought the episode was garbage. Although I will have to respectfully disagree that it is not the worst episode of the series. The worst episode is definitely Shadow Play. Also, I love how you aren't afraid to share you're opinions despite how much they contrast with the fandom. I mean for It Ain't Easy Being Breezies. That's one of the most universally hated episodes in the series by the bronies and yet it is your favourite. I will admit I never saw it as a great episode, I also never understood the massive hate towards it. Geez. Bronies overreact to EVERYTHING. Anyways, thanks for sharing your opinions. @@orionsong1624 In case you don't know, this is how the bronies view the Breezies (the creatures not the episode). Scottish-accented insectoid abominations that deserve to get slowly burned with a torch blower. That's not a joke. It's literally a small ''meme'' in the brony community of how much these things are hated. I'll admit I never really liked the breezies that much but that is just overkill. And as for the actual episode, they believed it was a terrible episode because A) it featured those "abominations'', B) they thought the episode was just simply boring and C) because it had fluttershy learn a lesson "that she should have already known" and that it was an "assassination on her character" to focus on this lesson. Yes. This is how bronies think. Although I will kind of side with them on that last point a little since it probably IS a lesson that Fluttershy already knows. But it doesn't ruin the episode for me and I think it comes down that fact that people (or ponies in this case) aren't perfect and we constantly relearn the same life lessons over and over again. It's never Oh I learned a lesson and I move on from that for the rest of my life. Even though it probably is something Fluttershy should know, she relearns it over again similar to how Applejack relearns how Honesty is important in Leap of faith or honestly any of the other Season 4 episodes where one of them gets their key would be a good comparison. Also, I agree with Lily. Although I'm not a fan of the Breezies episode, I appreciate the lesson it teaches to kids. Good lesson. Bronies on the underhand. Yeah they clearly don't understand this show is for kids. On another note, can you tell me which episodes you are talking about? I have a bad time identifying episodes just from a vague discription. Lily's content helped me get out of the rabbit hole of brony bullshit I once found myself in. It helped me realize what was important in a children's show, and what was not. Just gonna ignore Lizzy breaking up with her for the crime of being traumatised after that experience then? And also, I guess we’re ignoring Lizzy’s hang ups about the fact that Lily didn’t go running back to her after the whole ordeal too then. Cool. As for what happened to your lover, Lily bashing on something someone made for her doesn’t actually correlate to her being abusive, those things aren’t actually equal. As for the thing your lover made for Lily, what was it exactly? Lily doesn’t just bash something for no reason despite what you may want to believe so what was it that your lover made exactly?

No Lily, thank you. I was 12 when I first saw one of your videos. I was just entering one of the worst phases of my life. Both of my birth parents routinely abused and neglected me, and the majority of my family either refused to help, or just simply couldn't without being hurt themselves. I grew up in a VERY conservative area of the US, and I was raised from a very young age to sit still, shut up, and do what people tell you; or else. When I couldn't do that, I was lauded as being the "bad kid" or the "troublemaker" or worse, that I was "r*tarded." Nobody gave me the time of day, I had no friends, and I was starting to develop some serious mental issues. When I started watching your videos, I felt not only challenged, but respected. At first it was just about MLP, but then it was for Steven Universe, Disney, and then just for you. I was so excited to see your next video, or see you rip a new asshole into some creepy pervert or abuser. I didn't always agree with everything you said, but as I got older I began to understand the wisdom and sincerity with which you made reviews and think pieces. I understood the importance of politics, and being informed, and how entertainment contributes to everyone's quality of life and perspective. I began to have respect for not only other's opinions, but my own and my own worth as a person. I was officially diagnosed with depression and anxiety when I was 17. In reality, I had just been hiding it since I was 13. I attempted suicide three times, thank god none of them were successful. I was thrown out of my mother's home, and financially could not afford college. That was probably the best thing that could have happened to me. I've gotten a good job that I make good money with as I'm now graduating high school. I'm on my way to online university, I'm receiving much-needed therapy, and thanks to the quarantine, I haven't had to see or speak to my parents in over three months. I'm now living with my step-father, it's not much of an apartment, I share it with my brother as well, but having no privacy and working long hours is heaven for me. I'm buying my own clothes and making my own choices unafraid of what someone might think or do to me. I'm not afraid to challenge someone I know isn't right, and defend not only my experiences, but the people I care most about. My best friend is a closeted trans man, and I would have never heard of being trans if I hadn't seen you go through your transition. He's like a brother to me, and I'd take him as my family before anyone else. I'm choosing my family now, and I'm never going to settle or be scared ever again. I genuinely don't think I could have gotten to this place of confidence and happiness if I hadn't learned and appreciated so much of what you do and I hope will continue to do. You and your videos got me through toxic parents, friendships, and relationships as a better person afterwards. I wasn't afraid to come out because if you could, I could. I wasn't afraid to fight for myself and the people I love because I watch you do it almost effortlessly. In short, I grew up with you, Lily, and I hope I get to enjoy and experience your wonderful content and mind for a very, very long time after. I cannot thank you enough for everything that you have given me, and that I hope others have received as well.

- One thing about Amending Fences that I appreciate is that, much like how A Health of Information used lore for the sake of a good story, Amending Fences used continuity. It felt like the writer thought "What if Moondancer wanted Twilight to come to her get-together and was heartbroken when she didn't?", and came up with a neat slice-of-life story to explore that idea, instead of just doing call backs to what Bronies would like to see return. - As a kid I always thought that if the CMC got their cutie marks, it'd be in the talents that we saw in The Show Stoppers. Scootaloo would be a dancer, Sweetie Belle would be a singer, Apple Bloom would be either a fashion designer, or an architect... Nope! Instead they've all got the same talent, which keeps their episodes focused mostly on cutie marks, and makes The Show Stoppers _totally_ pointless unless you're the kind of person whose KZbin history is full of Cringe Compilations. - I never thought MLP could get worse than the two (count 'em, two) episodes about having to accept overbearing parents or the two (again, _two_ of them) episodes about self-harm/suicide. But now I've learned about Dragon Dropped, an already-creepy story that gets 1000% creepier when you take into account the huge age difference between Rarity and Spike. I can't imagine there's any two characters where one of them could stalk the other until they spend time with them without crossing the line from social blunder to "N-O NO!", but an adult and a kid are the absolute worst choices.

The main cast was just being shoved to the side to focus on new characters even though they're, you know, the main cast. I think the show should have either ended after Season 4(I think that finale would have ended the series fine) or continued with the formula it had for the first four seasons(big adventures with villains and new locations for the finales and premieres, episodic stories using what they already had the rest of the time) and ended after one or two seasons because that's all they needed to wrap up the series. Just wrap up all the characters' stories, end, and maybe do a spin-off show about new characters. Some people were petitioning for Season Ten, that would be a horrible idea.

@@millabasset1710 Here is how I see it. Even though it is TECHNICALLY classified as spinoff, it's still part of the same cartoon universe right? I can kinda understand why most people boycotted it after the first film because well the EQG concept was by nature a worser version of the MLP concept. I mean you have less developed versions of the characters we know and love and put them in a world with no magic and fantasy where they previously lived in Equestria. But after Rainbow Rocks, Friendship Games, and it's own series came out, EQG was no longer a worse version of MLP. It was just different. And it was GREAT. It took these underdeveloped versions of the characters and developed them diferently than MLP did and put them in situation unique to the EQG world. And weirdly enough I actually found myself to like the EQG series more than I did the MLP series of Season 7-9.

@@millabasset1710 I'll be covering my thoughts on the finale when I do my roundup on the second half of the season, and I'll be tracking why the claim that it "ruins" discord is complete BS. To keep it brief, while turning a child to Stone when grown adults that should know better have been offered Redemption is a problem, at the same time, some people are beyond redemption. Deciding that some people are too far gone doesn't go agaisnt the show's morals. If anything, what truly goes against the show's morals is offering friendship to every Tom Dick and Harry regardless of whether or not they actually earned your friendship.

Started as a good if predictable recap, and ended with Lily doing a supervillain reveal to show that all of this was part of her genius plan from the very beginning. A plan to secure a solid place, dragging the dumbasses of the world kicking and screaming into something resembling basic human decency, while giving the rest of us a bit of help to brush up on our own failings along the way. Oh, and being super entertaining while she's at it. Well done Lily. You're amazing.

I also hate dragon dropped. Cuz it show me just how much a slave spike was to rarity. Everyone else is like but they are having fun together. I’m like where?! Spike doing all the heavy lifting and work while rarity uses him. She took him to a spa but that about it. What part of this is “fun” for spike?! Now he got a healthy friendship with gabby, who want to listen and talk to him. He doesn’t have to hold bags or use his dragon sense for gems, or hold buckets. Just hanging out, talking and flying with gabby. Eating ice cream. Rarity is as bad as any controlling guy as she try to pull spike away from someone who truly treats him as a friend. This episode show everyone why I hate rarity the most of the main six. But it all play for laughs cuz it rarity

Her being manpulative pissed me off so much. Like oh so all this time you could have done this for him, knowing his interests but now you want to do what he wants?! didn't even noticed the grooming aspect til lily pointed it out. Was hoping spike would tell her off too about it after spending time with gabby. you know like saying, gabby want to spend time with me, not for me to do stuff for her. she listens and talks to me. Not me being a soundboard for you. I thought we was friends but after spending time with gabby, she showed me what true friendship is supposed to be like. Not me holding stuff and doing stuff for you. do you even know my favorite color? or what is my favorite drink or ice cream? I'm more than just gems rarity. Then show rarity crying on the couch or whatever. but nope. we got the ending of keeping toxic friends despite them not really liking you til they can use you. ugh

I watched Dragon Dropped recently because I was watching all of season 9 and the next one was Dragon Dropped and I HATED IT! I didn’t realize how much of a slave spike was for Rarity until this episode. Like Rock Solid mentioned SHE USED TO STICK NEEDLES IN HIS BACK! LIKE WHAT! The way she obsessed over him, stalked him, creeped up on him when he was sleeping, didn’t allow him to spend time with the Gabby, only did what he wanted when he was starting to grow away from her, bribed him, etc did not sit right with me. I got uncomfortable. Then in the end she apologized for literally grooming the guy. Oh and then Spike helps her collect crystals again. WooHoo! Back to square 1!

MLP changed my life...for the worse. I was in the process of cutting off an abusive friendship that I had since kindergarten. It turned abusive in high school but because it had isolated me I didn't realize how bad it was until I started making friends in college. I wanted to watch some happy cartoons to help ease the misery and picked up MLP. And...that 100% delayed the cut off. But that cord has now been cut for six whole years and I am definitely in a better mental space. Good enough that when another "friend" tried to downplay their abuse by saying I was just still hurting over Bitchface and therefore just projecting, I had no problem immediately declaring that friendship over.

The Last Problem was more than just fan service, In fact the fan service only takes up a small amount of the episode. The story and theme of The Last Problem is about how people can remain friends even when they are apart from each other. Given that this show is supposed to be about interpersonal relationships, I feel like this was the most fitting way the series could have ended and the whole point of half of it being set in the future was to solidify that theme.

Sometimes I feel like MLP writers wanted the show to be both cartoonish and serious. The problem is, what's fine in a funny slapstick cartoon comes off as mean-spirited in a more serious context. How am I supposed to take RD's parents' side when they act like annoying invasive disrespectful jerks the whole episode, to the point of having almost caused serious injuries?? If they were simply supportive and RD misunderstood them, it'd have made more sense. Some episodes have good messages but the writing twist them entirely for the sake of "funny"... Anyway, nice video!^^

I don't really remember how or when I first discovered your content, but I'm eternally glad I did, your seriousness, refusal to talk down to your audience, and just general intelligence has genuinely improved my own capacity for critique. I'm much more mindful of certain story telling failures because of your blunt take down of those types of failures actually exposed them as failures, rather than just, a thing people write sometimes. And your bluntness is always a breath of fresh air, because some problems need a sledgehammer to solve, and people refusing to understand that is in the rotating top spot for causes of problems in my life. And unlike virtually every other analysis style critic I've followed over the years, I don't actually mind disagreeing with you on a take, because you just... Say what you think, and why you think it, so it's clear that you at least came to that conclusion through actual thought, instead of couching your opinions in 50 layers of caveats and mealy-mouthed nonsense because backing your opinions with what got you there might be "confrontational" or some shit. I would rather someone disagree with me in an intelligent way, over have someone on my side of an argument who can't back their shit up.
