Can I just say that although I’m not a railway modeller, I do greatly enjoy your videos.

Lima is a name of my childhood. I am quite impressed with this upgrade. You do great work. The semi-sarcastic way with which you talk about your project as you go along is truly the selling point of your videos for me. Thanks for that!

Awesome update on an older model, thanks for sharing. I recently spent hours on a 1969 Triang Hymek. It’s nowhere near as good as a modern one, but it’s full of memories and the work is all mine! Keep up the good work!

Hello Wallsrail, an excellent video, I particularly like your modifications of extra current collection, and the use of plastic tubeing for cable runs, and the use of a centralized power connection board, very well explained and illustrated, with regards from Australia.

Don’t worry about your time frame - Run a “Classic Special”, or Heritage Corner, its too good to hide, looks excellent 👍🏻

Hi mate. Great video; really enjoyed it with lots of food for thought. Presumably you thin Humbrol number 1 before you airbrush it? Best wishes, Nick

I'm no expert when it comes to painting, but yes all paint needs thinning before going through the airbrush 👍

Good on you for fixing up your old faithful warship. I finally got one myself a few months ago(or i think itsma warship limamboxed) or its looks the same. It has D819 on the side and 1C80 on the big front number looking thingy on the front and rear of the loco. It is a lima too so im going to save this video to get the info for the new wheels the same that you put on. Quick question ? Why is the standard lima wheels on 75 series track not good for lima loco's and cariages etc Cheers from John in Australia.
@Wallsrail3 жыл бұрын
Brilliant 👍
@70sVRsignalman2 жыл бұрын
Dear John Gibson from Australia, the Lima wheels were to the old European NEM standard, which means the wheel tread was wide, and the flanges deep, and really only suited to the Universal Code 100. Smaller Codes like Code 75, have a narrower rail head than Code 100, and a shallower height than Code 100, therefore the wide wheel tread can have difficulty negotiating points, and the flange runs on the sleeper rail fittings, this combination can both damage the track, and cause the locomotive / vehicle to derail. Hence the recommendation to use finer wheel sets, which also have the added advantage of tracking better on both existing Code 100, as well as the finer Code 75, hope this helps, regards from Australia.

Very nice. Was there any consideration to placing a second powered bogie?
@Wallsrail3 жыл бұрын
Have done double power bogies in the past with varying degrees of success! This project was just to get it fit to run again (code 75 compatible) and rarely gets used these days. So in the context of its future life, didn't really warrant it. However, a good idea, and a possible future video 🤔 Thanks 👍

Hello mate. Just to let you know that Peter's Spares make replacement Lima wheels, cheaper and quicker than Ultrascale wheels. I've used them and they're pretty good. 👍 PS - I've checked and they're all in stock.

I did not know that! Always good to find new sources Thanks 👍

Can you please suggest what wheels did you use as replacement.

It appears that the brakes don't align with the wheels. Any thoughts on whether you might try to fix that or not? I really enjoy your channel and the work you do. I watch at least one video every day (or I should say re-watch....watched them all a dozen times each by now I think). Thanks from Vermont, USA
@Wallsrail2 жыл бұрын
It was noted at the time. Serious surgery would've ensued. Something I would have dealt with, but Lima used a strange plastic for the bogies on their stuff, which I've had various degrees of success with. It's always a gamble doing mods like this, the replacement wheels looked skinny once they were on! I didn't know how to combat the issue. Altering the brake blocks might of helped, but I was worried it may have looked top heavy then? As for an update on it in the future, maybe? Thanks Nigel

Nice job! You have forgotten another thing apart from the hand rails, although a not to obvious thing. That is to give the fan blades a twist, they should be at an angle to create the air flow when spinning.
@IronHorseRailways3 жыл бұрын
Smashing video. It's good to bring life to the older models, I've one or two, thankfully I used code 100 track but even with that they sometimes protest over the points! Those locomotive carriers at the end there, how did you make them?

Its a PECO SL-43 storage unit peco-uk.com/products/loco-lift-and-storage-unit?_pos=1&_sid=a45f90432&_ss=r I bought a job lot of them years ago. Quite expensive though!!

I seem to remember the smaller UK loading gauge meant the internals were shoehorned into the body, only adding to their unreliability. The Westerns were better, and I think, the best looking UK loco..........
@Wallsrail3 жыл бұрын
Could well be.... Am not an officiando on such things, only know what I've read. As for the Westerns, think that's a matter of taste? 👍👍
