Thanks MrDrozo glad you enjoyed this as well! I thought it was pretty awesome playing PC games on the Pi myself, probably wont do it much but having the option and seeing it work is awesome!

This is very interesting! Any idea if there's a similar option on PCs running with AMD GPUs? Or is it an nVidea-only thing? I'm also wondering whether this would work simply using Steam's built-in game streaming functions (I Think currently you can stream games from PC-PC or PC-Mac (or Mac-PC or Mac-Mac...).
@TechTipsta9 жыл бұрын
Jon Turner Unfortunately Limelight specifically uses nvidia magic to make this work, they reverse engineered the protocol they use with the nvidia shield and allow it on a whole range of other devices. This means no AMD but hopefully if they do have something similar then someone will make something for that as well! More details on the nvidia streaming thing here: shield.nvidia.com/game-stream

So after I setup my controller then reboot the pi just boots normally. How do i get into the emulation station GUI and get to limelight? Thanks so much!
@JazmanGames9 жыл бұрын
This is awesome, thank you for showing us :-) I got it working quite well once I turned off my eset firewall, can't get it working with firewall though :-( but it worked great at 720p even over wireless for me
@TechTipsta9 жыл бұрын
xixJazmaNxix awesome glad to know it works over wireless! I see a lot of people complaining the Pi can only handle 720/60 (and not 1080/60) but I thought it ran quite well even at that resolution. No complaints from me, and sounds like you either!
@twv55309 жыл бұрын
I cannot get through the controller setup procedure no matter what I do! My xbox 360 wireless controller works flawless for emulation station and jstest works without a hitch. But when I try to configure with event # it just goes great thank you and exits out so I cannot launch it due to no map file being found.

Hey, I get a Error: 401 when I try to pair. It also says Certification Verification failed. I have tried installing manually and through the experimental packages. It can discover and find my PC, but when I ctrl+c to finish search, it fails out and returns to the menu. I also have all the required components and have made sure geforce experience is open. Any help?
@GoGoWeLp9 жыл бұрын
+Zack Cooper-Black Maybe you dont need it anymore but if someone other have the same issue here is the answer: Since Nvidia Update Geforce Experience streaming does not work with Java anymore. The only thing that works is Moonlight (It is programmed in C) But i dont know how to get it run on Retropie

I'm getting a error 401 and says Certification Verification failed. I copied everything you did word by word. It can find my pc but when it tries to link i get that error message. Do you know what could cause that? Please help, I would really appreciate it

works perfect. I have 3 launch options: 1080p-30fps / 1080p-60fps / 720p-60fps. Its posible to add a 720p-30fps launch menu option??
@TechTipsta9 жыл бұрын
Albertosf Yes it is, you will need to create the file in /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/limelight/ just take one of the existing files, open it up and look at the contents, you will see the command that is run and just need to copy this into a new file changing 60 to 30fps. Let me know if you need a more detailed guide.

TechTipsta Done! Works perfect! Thanks a lot! :) Now i have to test some "bitrate" configs (the raspberry is a bit far away connected via wifi, enought for video streaming at 720p-1080p really nice, but a bit inestable at gaming)

great video, but I don't understand why use your Pi rather then your PC ?
@TechTipsta9 жыл бұрын
SparklingRathian Hey man, good question! A lot of people (myself included) have our Pi set up in the lounge room for Retro Gaming and our PC somewhere else in the house. It just gives me another option on how to play, and I can load up a racing game without leaving the couch and just kick back and relax. It is also really cool to see your Pi running these games and what is possible on such a cheap device! You can't tell me its not awesome!?

Hi Great Vid! I am in a spot of bother. I followed the instructions to the letter on V2.6 and V 3.0 Retropie yet I cannot get the xbox controller to work even though it is logged as event 4 also there is no sound output although retropie has audio!
@TechTipsta9 жыл бұрын
Steven McCreanor Are you using a original xbox 360 controller? I had issues with non authentic controllers with this. Are you outputting sound via hdmi!?
@fallbeansstreams9 жыл бұрын
TechTipsta Thx for the reply! I actually managed to troubleshot it myself. I had to completely wipe my nivida drivers and reinstall. Once I did that it runs perfectly! You did a very well explained tutorial and I am running limelight perfectly now!
@chrisgorsline9 жыл бұрын
I did follow the instructions to a tee....I have a fresh install of RetroPie 3.0 BETA, and everything seemed to install perfectly. The Limelight showed up after reboot of the Pi-2, but now Emulationstation just freezes after 2 seconds every time it starts. The Pi isn't frozen itself as I can still SSH into it. But I have to reboot as Emulationsstation is unresponsive. Not sure how to remove Limelight now that it's there.
@TechTipsta9 жыл бұрын
Chris Gorsline I had also tried this on the 3.0 Beta and had no issues so this is strange. Limelight also does not run unless the script is enabled from the menu so I am confused how it is freezing your Pi even after a reboot. Anyway, we can try remove it. All the limelight files will be contained within /home/pi/limelight so you will simply need to delete that folder. To remove the menu, you will have to edit the es_systems.cfg file and remove the entry there for limelight. Finally, the menu graphics are contained within /etc/emulationstation/themes/simple/limelight .. (that is from memory but once you get there you will find it). Try that and see how you go. Let me know if you want me to expand on any of those steps as I was brief in details.
@chrisgorsline9 жыл бұрын
TechTipsta Thanks for the help. I did those 3 things. Removed the Limelight folder, removed entries from es_systems.cfg and removed the graphic. Everything is running fine again. I will get a backup of my microSD now, and then I will attempt the Limelight install again. If I run into the same problem, I will do more in the way of investigating to track down what it could be.
@TechTipsta9 жыл бұрын
Chris Gorsline interesting, glad it fixed the issue but no idea why! I may also try this on a fresh 3.0 install (rather than an upgrade) and see what I come up with. Will let you know if I have any issues and find a solution.
@chrisgorsline9 жыл бұрын
TechTipsta Ok, here's an update so far.... I followed the directions from the start and almost the same thing happened. Every time ES starts, it just gives a white screen and accepts no input. So I removed the limelight folder from the themes/simple folder. Voila, now ES starts up fine, and I see a menu entry for Limelight (a basic generic one I assume, since I removed the graphics folder) So now it starts Steam and it starts OK....I see some lines about Video and Audio and Input.......but Steam never comes up on the TV. Yet I can hear the sounds through my TV as I move my 360 controller, and I see it fine on my Desktop PC. It thinks it's streaming.....but nothing on Pi/TV.
@chrisgorsline9 жыл бұрын
TechTipsta Ok, so I have it working now....had to restart my PC..ha! So it seems the graphic folder in the themes was preventing my ES from staring.

Wsh they offered some software like this that works with amd cards. Off topic again. Will 64gb micro sd cards from gskill work with the RP 2? can not seem to find this out only info on the RP1
@TechTipsta9 жыл бұрын
dplalowski haha man I love all comments on or off topic! I agree though, its a shame that this is limited to nVidia users, which AMD card are you running? I recently upgraded and was going to go with an AMD but, found a GTX 780 second hand for $160.. could not turn that deal down.. Let me find that link to sd card compatibility one sec...
@TechTipsta9 жыл бұрын
dplalowski Check this out: elinux.org/RPi_SD_cards#Working_.2F_Non-working_SD_cards I cannot say whether that card specifically works personally, but that list is pretty comprehensive so it may give you some ideas.
@dplalowski9 жыл бұрын
Same list I found. I will have to be the guinea pig for this one . I have a 16 and a 8gb sd card now going to have to upgrade to a 64 gb one to have complete rom sets. A dream within my grasp. Whats your opinion on the nvidia shield console? If it can install android apps not just android tv apps then I will be purchasing one of those so I can install emualtors on that unit and giving my rp 2 to my brother. Either way the RP 2 is a great device and I am surprised by how powerful it is. When you add it all up for the controller and the $120 anyways so $200 for the shield doesnt look too bad of an option. Sorry for rambling on 2 different topics. Its what is on my mind.
@dplalowski9 жыл бұрын
I have a MSI 260x. I got it last summer for $130. Great low budget card. I think im going to wait for amd new cards in the next few quarters since I an play everything perfectly at high settings. League of legends and Heroes of the Storm Beta. 780 for 160 is a steal you wont have to worry about anything for gaming unless you want to game at resolutions over 1080 and ultra setting. Jealous
@TechTipsta9 жыл бұрын
dplalowski you may not have the be the guinea pig, ***** uses a 64GB card and I am sure when he sees this he will let you know the brand and how its working for him. As for the shield, I am probably not the best person to ask but I do have an opinion =P (but take it lightly as I have never owned a shield). Since you mention emulation it could be a really cool device (did you see this article: www.eteknix.com/is-emulation-the-best-feature-of-the-nvidia-shield/) BUT, what about an original PSP? This would be substantially cheaper and the emulation community for this is just as strong. I would strongly consider both of these options before dropping the big bucks on the shield (especially since you wont use it for game streaming).
