Any types of limitations on a PDAer can feel like a threat due to a compromise to our autonomy.
Food is no different.
Good food, bad food, fat, skinny, healthy, unhealthy.
This above..diet culture..getting caught up in food rules does so much damage to anybody, let alone PDAers.
If I was told I could never have white bread ever again (I don't eat white bread), I would crave it to no end. I would eat it morning, noon and night and everything in between. Midnight trips to the cupboard for the white bread..
So, sometimes we hoard, steal, collect, sneak and hide food.
It might be the only time people don't watch us eat, comment on what we're eating or how or when or how much, as a beginning point.
Allowing myself to have free access to all foods has been a pivotal part of my recovery from the trauma and pain caused to my young mind and body through diet culture.

That feels very sensible to me. My mother was PDA and gave me a remarkable amount of agency, for which I was always grateful. It was society’s messages that gave me trouble, and still can.

My mother didn’t. My PDA parent tried controlling my every movement, called me defiant, attempted to kill me in her dysregulation, was extreme, violent, abusive, made up fanciful lies about me, targetted me for her abuse. I never had any agency. Fuck them
