I really can't comprehend LSV and Marshall's choice of taking Warren Elder over Thought-Stalker Warlock in the second pack. Totally agree with Paul that the Warlock is the pick there.
@paulonavarro70953 ай бұрын
Maybe they know something we don’t know, Warlock is clearly the pick - Black is a good and normally not contested colour and it is just below bomb territory

Yeah, Warren Elder over Thought-Stalker Warlock feels a bit too much a disregard of the stats.
@51gunner3 ай бұрын
I'm guessing their logic on Warren Elder is that it's capable of bigger changes in board state? I've ended up in a tough situation where my opponent was on rabbits and it was very tough to swing into them due to threat of activation, yet I needed to because if they got to 8 mana and could pump it twice, the swing-out would be hard to survive. Thought-Stalker Warlock can definitely be rough if you lose a good card but it's a bit undersized on defense.
@anatolytsinker53173 ай бұрын
I think it’s really close. My bad decks often lack 2 drops and some of my good decks have had 3 or 4 elders in them
@saxophonesensei38572 ай бұрын
I would take Warren elder. 3 mana 2/2 even with menace is rather small. Nabbing a card is good early, but so is a 2 drop rabbit. As late game top decks, the rabbit clearly takes the cake (pun intended) because it becomes a win con in any rabbit deck. If you don't have rabbits to pump up on turn 6, I think you've failed to draft and or play your rabbit deck. Late game warlock is oten a whiff since most people have played all their cards or are holding lands to discard. The menace isn't very relevant Late game since the 2/2 body will often be outclassed. To top it all off, rabbit ls is the best deck and lizards are good but worse. Warlock is fine but a fair amount worse imo

Thought-stalker Warlock is generically good but we're acting like it's specifically for the lizards deck for some reason. I think some of the supposed on-railsness of this format is imposed on it by players.

In terms of 1v1 cube formats, grid draft is fun: Lay 9 cards in a 3x3 grid, one player takes a column row, then the other player. Burn the rest, lay out a new 9, and alternate the starting drafter. I also like Winchester. Lay out 3 cards face up, and one face down. The first drafter picks 1 card, the second drafter picks 2 cards, with the last card going to the first drafter. Repeat, alternating who picks first.
@EricChoiniere3 ай бұрын
Grid even works for 3 players. We give the remaining cards in the pack to the last one, rotating who picks first such that if you picked first for pack 1, you pick last for pack 2 and so on. We usually draft draft 21 packs instead of 18 when doing this, but 24 might actually be better... we often find ourselves stretched on playables.

I think LSV is really underestimating the ravine raider. Yes it's not super impressive, but having menace makes it really annoying to block, and even into the late game it's able to get in for decent damage and almost always ends up trading up with something
@51gunner3 ай бұрын
I've liked it for a 1-drop. Lizards wants to be casting stuff second-main anyway so the threat of activation is real. Dropping one turn 1 definitely gets you a free hit in on 2, and later you either threaten them with bad trades or free hits.
@ZeroFate6433 ай бұрын
Agree. I consider Ravine Raider to be an integral part of RB and want to have 3 in every deck. The damage adds up, threat of activation is real, they enable explosive starts with Gecko and Thought Stalker Warlock, turn on Scales for early double spell, and are hard to profitably block in multiples. It's just so much value in a single card and fits so well with the RB game plan.

LSV and Marshall totally underestimating Thought-Stalker Warlock. It’s in the top 3 uncommons of the set. I play it in any deck that has black, not just lizards. I’ll even splash it in my frogs deck to blink it with Skyskipper Duo.

Not trying to brag but I've been aiming removal at pond prophets since day 1 (caus even before playing my 1st Bloom draft it was clearly the engine of the frogs deck) and it has never failed to pay off.

The audio quality was tough in a lot of spots. The crackling that sounded like a bouncing bed was annoying. Have all three people record locally then put those three together at the end. This avoids the lag that causes audio to cut out. I know you can edit well because you do it for the watch channel.

How is this format fun? Like 4 out of 10 archetypes are unplayable and even if you are in an open archetype you can easily open packs not having any good cards for that archetype. We had a test draft where the whole first pack (all 8 booster) had like 3 cards you would even want in RW Mice and the second pack wasn't much better. Pack 3 then suddenly had all the good RW cards but no one could switch so late. Meanwhile the packs supported 4 green players sitting even next to each other and all had better decks than the 5th player in the row that was ultimately forced into RW. I've seen so many drafts where an archetype is super open (like tabling Gev) and then you open a pack where Ravine Raider is the best RB card. Get one more of those packs and you feel like train wrecking in open colors. And I never saw a format where the die roll decided basically more than any decision made besides it. If the GW or RB or RW deck goes first and has a good draw it's nearly unstoppable and the aggro mirrors are close to unwinnable on the draw. So many games where both decks had T5 kills and it was just a coin toss because who ever had to play defensive first was just eaten alive by tricks and the decks not being build to play defense. Also with nearly any fixing even the 2 color no splash decks screw all the time and you have to take a million mulligans. Can't even keep a risky hand as missing a single beat is a free loss.
@51gunner3 ай бұрын
I've definitely had a couple bad bad losses in best-of-1 to the RW deck and being on the draw. Turn 1 Brave-Kin duo into Turn 2 Heartfire Hero and activating the duo, promising a 4/4 knocking down the door on turn 3 that will continue to get bigger. If I don't have removal for Heartfire Hero right away it's going to get very very bad for me.
