I know marshal is probably busy but it would be fun to see the games played out after the drafts. Also barkform harvester is a snail for wick the whorled mind.

Yes, the 2 colorless changelings are quite good with Wick, since they are both rats and snails. I had a deck once that was black-green, splashing blue, and it came up more than once that Three Tree Mascot randomly scrubbed a mana into red, allowing me to activate Wick for game-winning value.

It's fascinating that this is simultaneously one of the fastest formats of all time, and a format that there is a non-trivial amount of talk about how to prevent from decking yourself
@51gunner2 ай бұрын
I've both won by deck-out and also lost to it in this format. What I've seen is that there's some decks that can go almost unstoppably fast. If Rabbits gets the right pieces together or if Raccoons gets the perfect curve-out, or if Mice get the good mice and ways to trigger them, the game is over. On the flip side, decks that miss synergies or just draw wrong have nothing going on. Raccoons is so prone to "I have all my expend 4 pieces, yet just drew basics" that I really try not to end up in that deck. For example, I played against a raccoon deck yesterday that hit the perfect 2-3-4-5 curve and did backbreaking damage; Bakersbane Duo and that one that pumps all Raccons got pumped by the Scrapshooter landing (ow) and then even bigger by the Junkblade resolving (OW). I neither had the opportunity to crack back through their vigilance nor did I have any good blocks for the pumped team. Same as a great rabbit curve-out that does something like 1-drop into Warren Elder into Druid of the Spade, followed up by an offspringed Intrepid Rabbit to pump the team. These games are over FAST and it almost feels unfair. If the synergies and curve-outs don't come together, you get into these dead boards where attacking is unprofitable. Squirrels starts to mill itself for 4 looking for plays and might do this 3-4 times. Rats tries to dig out its stuff to turn on Threshold. These black/green or black/blue decks like the one drafted do have to think about it, if they full-send for synergy they really do end up decking out.

Really feel like RB in the second draft was the pick. That deck gave signals and looked like it would have been strong even with what we saw eithout it being cut. Getting good early pick GB cards carried this draft to br ok.
@simonatteneder77152 ай бұрын
In first draft you passed the lillysplash mentor so somebody probably moved in. That’s the answer why you didn’t get back the sunshower Druid in pack 3

Draft 2 we were way too tunneled on being GB despite no signals we should be in it. Meanwhile Hired Claw is a B+ card and wheeled pack 2 alongside the Blacksmith's Talent we could have picked up. There was a great lizards deck that the table was clearly pushing us into.
@clancyjames5852 ай бұрын
I'd really love Marshall and Luis to spend more time on why they passed that 7th pick fireglass mentor. It seemed to me that A: that's a really strong signal that black/red specifically is open, while all they're really giving up is the clifftop lookout (existing pick in green) and bonebind orator (the pick they took instead). I understand it's a 50% chance of playing the fireglass vs 100% chance of playing the orator, but it seems to me that in limited, where getting filler is very easy, it should have been fireglass all the way. I was expecting them to slam it and say "great, we found our lane". I mean, if you don't move in after being almost mono-coloured and you see a strong signal, when do you?
@tedkottke2 ай бұрын
I agree that also confused me
@Hanslineman2 ай бұрын
Yea it was definitely weird, especially after hearing Luis just minutes ago going on about how important later signals were because so many people had to pass on the cards. I think it was a case of not a lot of really good red pack 1? Because they say red didn’t seem particularly open but every pack after that had multiple red cards that wheeled.
@clancyjames5852 ай бұрын
@@Hanslineman I agree, I think that's probably the reason. But - I've also heard them say on various occasions that not seeing something is ambiguous, because you're not necessarily sure what's opened - but seeing something is less ambiguous, because you know it's there and hasn't been taken. I know both of them were talking about going for more of a brew that second draft - maybe they were just hoping to avoid a "boring" R/B aggro deck?
@ZeroFate6432 ай бұрын
Luis seemed to be undervaluing how good RB is in this format. Same reason he undervalued Thoughtstalker Warlock, he doesn't seem to be playing it in the right decks.
@janusztarczykowski90032 ай бұрын
In the second draft it was clear you really dont want to draft Rakdos even when its super open 😅 which I kinda understand, I think I have never drafted it, maybe one or two times. But also kinda funny to watch that.

Drafted Sultai recently with Pack1Pick1 Glarb and moved into UB Rats. Pack 2 had Ygra. Got my first 7-0. Deck was sick!

30:00 Feel the pick should be plumecreed instead. We have two Dour Port Mages which synergize perfectly with it allowing us to pick it up and replay it (potentially multiple times) as a repeated protection trick.

Had a fun match with Barkform Harvester and Thornvault Forager. The board was stalled out, but I fetched my second Daggerfang Duo with the Forager. From there I left one back to block oppobent's threats, while running the other into his board and returning it with Harvester and Forager. For a bunch of turns I was milling over lands with the Daggerfangs, refilling my library with good stuff and cracking shitloads of food tokens, while poor opponent tried to topdeck out of the situation. That was fun.

I would've taken a different direction where you picked Bonebind Orator over fireglass mentor. A fireglass mentor that late is a strong sign that red was open. Thanks for the content though.

They really botched the 2nd draft. You can tell they are too used to getting the nuts passed to them in premier draft without much thought. They were fighting for green scraps while fireglass mentor and hired claw were wheeling

Really liked the second draft. Sometimes a unified tribal strategy is not obviously open and you have to cobble together pockets of synergy like that one.

I feel like black red was the way to go there, when fireglass mentor wheeled in pack one and hired claw wheeled in pack two. Also BR makes the best use of thought-stalker warlock. I generally like BR, as I feel it is usually the most open of the top archetypes. I might be biased though as BR got me 2k last weekend :D
