his (billys) dad has a slight aussie accent (and the actor is an aussie), so I'd guess they wanted to give a reason as to why billy's sounds a bit like a mixture of the two, *for an american* (because they can't tell the difference between an aussie and a kiwi accent). his cockney is stereotypical and not very accurate. but it's perfectly fine for the show. but honestly, i think they should've just had karl do his own accent, even if the comics have billy as a brit. because ultimately, who cares. just have him say things a kiwi would say. why not

He is the main character of the show bruh lmao he's not some extra being paid 50 bucks to stand in a corner he is on camera for like 65% of the show's runtime lol Also Urban is a fantastic actor and is definitely on par with Starr and everyone else on the show. Basing Urban's worth as an actor off of one iffy accent he did that most viewers wouldn't really give two shits about is kinda lame, and you should at least check him out in Dress (2012) or something to get a feel for his ability.

A few TV Shows have that, where a secondary character carries it for a not-as-scene-stealing protagonist. Which is fine. It's just Quaid is an industry plant, his acting training comes from a different place than the kiwi duo's or the other standout actors and you can see that in his acting, it's a bit generic, whereas urban's, starr's, moriarty's, crawford's scenes are all constant highlights, his acting feels a bit lost sometimes too me.

There's plenty of British actors who can't do American accents and still put in good Hollywood performances. Michael Caine, for one. Actors do accents all the time, it’s kind of a big part of their job. No one is saying it has to be flawless but he could sound like he isn’t just talking in his normal voice. As someone from the UK, unlike most Americans it seems I can actually differentiate British/Aussie/Kiwi accents and it’s slightly jarring that he doesn’t sound convincing whatsoever. I don’t care about what Limmy was saying (although I do agree with both you and him that Butcher’s dialogue is kinda cringe) but me and the OP are absolutely correct about the trash accent

No, they're all written to be unlikable. That's the point of the story: an exaggerated critique of hero worship. Starlight is the exception because, honestly, they are still pushing the tonal line in the sand even with her as a comparative paragon of virtue. That said, I haven't read the comics but I wouldn't be surprised if she has a paradigm shift or fall from grace.

​@@synchc BB is absolutely meant to be ambivalent, not totally unlikeable, as with the trauma with Becka and his up-and-down, hit-and-miss performance as a sort of father surrogate to Ryan. It's not as black and white as you're trying to make it out to be. The problem is that the pathos they try to weave into his character is undone by how overdone the cockney aspect is on the level of the writing and how substandard the accent is from Urban in the actual performance.

The Boys is easy to understand and follow the story, it almost flows like a comedy sketch show, each scene a different 'joke' and a different sort of violence. And Death Stranding is just an extension to the truck simulator he used to play so much (don't know if he still does), so an easy game for him to follow too, even with Kojima's heavy-handedness. Limmy just doesn't have patience for overcomplicated shit. That's why I think he likes these junk.

He probably read out sub messages over all of the terrible dialogue though. Great read on the Boys too. Matches exactly what I felt about the couple episodes I saw: a bunch of sensational stuff happening in every scene, but never with anything of real interest or substance behind it.

ultimately, it's dialogue written by an american for a kiwi, for a show that has to appeal to a global audience. it's like having a charracter speak tuvan. only a tiny portion of the audience know the language, but the rest can detect that it's a distinct dialect or language. accuracy is not as important as relatable depiction.
