Love this song. For those asking, this took place in San Jose, CA, 06/03/1994. Kim once said that this is a waltz and I thought, f@ck, it is! really! Wow, takes a genius to compose such a badass heavy waltz!

Matt composed this song though not Kim

@@mozdaboz Actually Music is composed by Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron, vocals and melodies by Cornell. Soundgarden wrote songs in almost all possible configurations. And I'm glad they did, so eclectic.

It's arguable which album from the 90's Seattle scene is the best, and it's mostly a matter of taste, I guess. But I would say that Superunkown is deifinitely the most interesting musically, most intricate, and most sophisticated among all of them.

i doubt young cornell is as narrow minded as most of you are. old cornell collaborating with timbaland took a lot of guts. you think cornell didn't know how people will react to this collab? guy ain't stupid. he knew the risks and yet he still took it. he is not afraid to step out of his comfort zone and explore. fyi, i am not a fan of scream but i give him major props for trying.

Chris Cornell is simply the best... and as long as he doesn't solo, Kim Thayil is god too. His grooves, riffs, and tone are untouchable, but his solos can be a messy jumble of notes at times.
@RuffisInc7 жыл бұрын
Soundtallica in Chains Kim's solo's are a mess or Chris's are? I'm confused here (chris doesn't solo)
@Wolfmoss16 жыл бұрын
I saw Kim in an interview one time saying that his solos are usually just improvisations, as he gets bored doing the same thing over and over. I'm with you though, I much prefer well crafted and meaningful solos over jumbles of notes (modern day Kirk Hammett I'm looking at you! ಠ_ಠ)

It is a about a limo! In a 1995 interview Chris made clear that the inspiration for the song lyrics came to him when he saw a limo thrashed on a offroad somewhere, and he thought about the unvencible feeling that whoever owns a limo may feel, writing the lyrics about how deceitful that is... but he might have joked... I think it is about how fake and frail the feeling of power can be.

I remember an interview with Chris,(I think it was on MTV 1994) he talked 'bout this great song and he said somethin' like "it's one of my fav songs from superunknown cos it's very influenced of my fav band Black Sabbath(...)we tried to make something so dark, so raw, and the result was this song, yeh"
@No1Zero15 жыл бұрын
Um ladies and gentleman, the lyrics were written by Chris.

Someone may have already answered this somewhere in the last hundred comments, but where was this recorded? I saw them on this tour at the Armory in NYC, june '94. The air conditioning system broke in the venue and it was like 120 degrees in there - almost intolerable. The played great despite that and I remember going completely nuts during Rusty Cage, Jesus Christ Pose and Superunknown - great memory, wish I could see them again.

He's talked about that and he's commented on how he thinks it's interesting that current events can change interpretations on old songs and other art, but ultimately he dismissed that idea. I think it might just be a metaphor for a good thing coming to an end.
