What an incredible experience you shared with Houston. #1 was when you did the best Dad thing ever and instead of taking Limpy for yourself, your 1st thought was of Houston. #2 everything you did to make this happen for Houston, reaching out after rifle season and getting him a crossbow, then teaching him in a short amount of time to be comfortable with it and shoot accurately. Amazing how a great father you are teaching your son to kill a handicap deer rather than to care for it..isn't that great, so anytime there is an injured animal and falls in the range of eating...he's got to do what dad taught him...rather than in the early life of the deer tranquilize it and fix it...get it struggling to live on so you can shoot and eat it..wow...it really brings tears to you and I..it's that a great story...like...once upon a time there was an injured deer on our property....da da da.... We ate it....o boy; a best seller....and I am a strong believer in the lord

@@thedadof2880 The deer lived a good life where he was. Deer are animals that can be hunted for food. They hunt and the animal is eaten by the family. Just like the fish they catch on their farm. You just don't take a wild deer tranquilize a wild deer and fix its leg and send it out in the wild again. This farm also raises cow/ steers to be butchered for food. Do you object to that too !? They have chickens and eat the eggs. It is the original way of life and Daniel and mom are raising their kids right 👍

No body knew what was wrong with Limpy Gimpy, it has only been speculated all sorts of things. He was never a pet, his injury never hampered him. He just got bigger & better. Just like Houston. That said... I was rooting for the Gimpster. AWESOME, it was Houston that got him. I find it bittersweet I LOVE the idea of mounting him... Good job guys

Because of his injury being a permanent disability he would probably gone down under a pack of coyotes or stray dogs. NOT A GOOD WAY TO DIE! The bow was quick and better than the former mentioned above.

What an amazing day for Houston and Dad !!! I’ve followed the whole Limpy Gimpy story !! I’ve hunted my whole life and I’ll admit I was as nervous as Houston in that blind !! My biggest buck I’ve ever harvested was with a crossbow !! What an incredible feat for you both !!! Especially with it being Houston’s first bow kill !!! Yes I cried right along with him !! At the end of the day only Thing that matters is the memories that you and Huston have made throw out this journey. The look on Houston face was priceless and that's what it's all about. That day will live on for years to come and Houston will probably be telling his kids how his dad took him hunting and the day that he got to put limpy gimpy on the wall. I don't feel sorry for that buck, he lived a much longer life then had we had a healthy predator population, i don't think he would have lived 2 seasons. A mt lion or wolf's would have thinned the heard and he was an easy target.

Omg...just the first 10 seconds had me bawling and laughing all at the same time!! So so happy for Houston!! I'd finally dried up, got into the video and when in Houston's excitement he said, "I love you, dad" BAWLING!!! My vision was so blurred I had to rewind it to see the parts I missed when I was sobbing! I'm so happy that I got to see the entire journey of Limpy Gimpy....I can't wait to see his mount! Daniel you just won best dad on the internet! That was so touching it made me cry. I’m so proud of Houston because I’ve watched him grow and mature over a few years. His compassion for the deer just about outweighed his need to harvest him. You could tell as soon as he shot Limpy that he wasn’t sure to be thrilled or sad that Limpy was gone. Persistence pays off and with his crossbow Houston must be so proud, he set out to get limpy gimpy for 2yrs and during rifle season missed out on taking the shot thru nerves but didn't give up and finally in last days of deer season he got his prey with the crossbow. I'll be honest. I was happy for Houston but I also shed a tear for Limpy Gimpy. He was such a smart deer to have survived so long with three legs. The end of a legend.

@@carlapierle8623 I'm not so sure about it being the end of a Legend by the name of Limpy Gimpy, I think the Legend is going to live on through more than one lifetime! He won't be forgotten, the fact that he was taken down by an Arrow (bolt) from a Crossbow cleanly, quickly means his story goes on way into the future. Daniel and Houston are going to remember that moment for the rest of their lives, and the story will live on because there is video footage of what is now, in the annals of stalking/hunting, a legendary take-down of a 13 pointer, by a 10-year-old lad, with the skill, and patience of a man!

My dad took both of my brothers hunting and they hated it and never went again, although when my grandpa took them rabbit hunting they were fine with it. My father passed a number of years ago and my brothers still think he was not a good dad while I think he was a great dad.

Daniel, now I understand why you let your bow drop down when you had such a perfect opportunity to take Limpy Gimpy. You never would have forgiven yourself for the loss of so much joy you experienced with that hug and "Dad, I love you!" that came from Houston. As a father and grandfather, it brought tears to my eyes that started pouring down my cheeks, as I then started reflecting back on days hunting with my kids gone by. You never get to repeat those types of moments physically, as you grow older but, in your later years the memories of those moments are precious. Thanks for sharing what a great father you are!
