Love the Lincoln Con Mark III. I don’t like luxury cars much, but I loved this car since I first set eyes on it👏

From what I remember reading, "Irv", the mechanic shown in the movie was an actual NYPD mechanic in the motor pool at the time the movie was made.

Irving Abrahams was involved in the real case and is playing himself. He searched the actual smugglers' car, a 1960 Buick Invicta, and found the hidden traps that held the drugs.

@@speeta That's right. He was an actual NYPD motor pool mechanic back then.

Fun trivia fact: the garage guy Irv, in the movie is played by the actual garage mechanic who took the car apart in real life for the cops.

That's correct. He was an NYPD motor pool mechanic.

Fact/Trivia; The Mark 3 Lincoln is the same vehicle that was heavily customized for the film of 1977 "The Car".

Thanks for putting this together. I'm really sorry that you were forced to let go of yours, just looked at your beautiful flickr pictures in all these grandiose surroundings. I have got an aqua blue one and completely understand your anguish. Hope you got a replacement soon! If only I could, I would also love to own a IV and V, they all are such incredible creations with their own merits. French Connection was the first film I was allowed to watch after 22:00 as a kid. It was overwhelming to say the least! The Mk III has been my all time favourite car ever since

Thanks for your kind comment. Yes, I hope I will be able to buy an other Mark III one day. French Connection was, indeed, a milestone movie, I love it. Mark IV are, as well, one of my favorite car, too. Thanks again.

My father bought one that looked exactly like the one in the movie. It was a 1970 brown with tobacco leather. He got it used in 1971 when this movie came out. My dad took me to see this movie and we could not believe our eyes when we saw this Mark III in the movie. I wish my dad kept that car, then maybe I would have got it, just say'n

I saw one of these brown-on-brown beauties at a swap meet/auto show this past spring, for sale. I love the movie and was sorely tempted to buy it; I could afford it - but I couldn't afford the TLC needed to keep it beautiful.

TheTonio38 Hello from Hamburg, GER you know me from flickr... and there you can find more pictures of my Mark III. I absolutely understand how it feels to give away this fantastic car. I did this three times because I needed the money. Now I have found the ultimate Mark III for me, built in early 1968 and original condition. Yes I can say the movie „The French Connection“ with the Mark III influenced my life in a way that couldn’t be more. Too much too write down here. Thank you very much for putting all the scenes with this wonderful car together in this tribute.

I always thought these were handsome cars. The classic car market does not think so. You can pick them up pretty cheap.

This car was brand new in 1970 the early 70's everything had to be chocolate brown and burnt orange, cars, furniture, trailers etc etc. I have this movie and they ripped the car to pieces to find the drugs and then said put it back together to catch the crooks..... sure..... I'd say the car being dismantled was the last scene they filmed.

@heymargaretlook They search for heroin in hiding places that have little or no free space, or would have ruined the drugs from the heat, like when they drop the transmission pan. The editing is harsher than it looks, with sound FX of tearing the carpeting. But the car was reported stolen, and stolen cars almost always show signs of abuse or damage when they're "recovered". Also, the police have several hours to put the Lincoln back together again. Not entirely plausible, but acceptable storytelling.
