I run a Miller Trailblazer 325 EFI. I chose it for price, size footprint, 12,000 watt gen power and the built in inverter that gives me 2,500 watts at idle. I’m not a pipeliner. I’m actually in the military but do welding on the side quite a bit. More fabrication, repair, fences. That kinda stuff. It runs 7018 like a dream. 6010 too. I just don’t run 6010 all that much. I just need to learn it. Having never run another engine drive, I will say it burns rods far better than any plug-in stick welder I’ve used. I’m just so happy with the machine and at $6,500 delivered, it payed for itself the first year. I’ve always heard how nice that true DC arc is on a big ol Lincoln. I’d love to run one just to try it out, however, I better not. I may fall in love and get in trouble with the wife again. I’m on probation. Just bought a dozer and an air-ride seat for my 6.0 F350 money pit nightmare. LOL. Love your vids. Like your steady, calm way you speak and explain things.

i dont do any pipe welding that requires me to be mobile, but what I do use is a miller dialarc 250 series, 0 issues, amazing in my opinion, soft puddle, very crisp, although now we've switched to mig and now spot welders and all this other stuff so i only get to use the miller on trailers and other heavy equipment that I do repairs on, but as for autobody we use a millermatic 211 and a prospot i4, there's no finesse when it comes to working with those machines, anyone can use them. Not to say that it's bad because I just set it up for my porter and have them blast away while I focus on other tasks.

@kirstenspencer36304 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the candid review. Funny how each machine welds a bit different. Hopefully the user can exploit the difference to advantage with a few hours practice. On well worn sa's the armatures become slightly oval and the brushes ever do slightly bounce and I belive it results in inductance that affects arc and puddle quality. In a dark spot look at the amature / brushes. Set amps to approx 170 amps ( 5/32 ) and have a friend hold an arc. See if there are any sparks at the brushes. A tiny tiny sparkling if ok but should therr be any arcing it's time for a visit to the motor shop. The last few sa's had this issue so a no go for my purse. They did weld though but the arc wasn't smooth as the output should be. A worn bearing on the armature can cause this. Also an open in the windings can cause issues too . If you can get an ocilocope on the leads under load it should show dc and no ripple. Hope this is helpful.

Hi Austin, may i ask why all of the pipeline rigs im seeing ,yours included have the welder just sitting on the back of the truck exposed to the elements? Given that its such a critical piece of equipment wouldnt it be better to have some sort of weatherproof cover to protect it? Thanks i enjoy your videos i live in Australia and i enjoy seeing how differently you do things
@haulingfireman10045 жыл бұрын
Many of the smaller bobcats and other air cooled machines that have to be more open to circulation have covers on them. The bobcat on my service truck needs one for sure when the snow flies. The bigger liquid cooled machines like that are more sealed against the elements and can handle sitting in the weather, just like a farm tractor or piece of heavy equipment.

I couldnt keep up with the maintenance plus the job was slow, so i sold the machine.
