Linda Ronstadt, a Rock (+ other genres) top artist is of Mexican descent (father’s side). She shared a story that when she was growing up, her family spoke English but sang in Spanish. She said, if it was music it had to be in Spanish. She surprised her managing group when late in her career she told them she wanted to do a Spanish - Ranchera music album. They advised against it. She had never recorded music in Spanish. Not many people knew she was Mexican. Like everything else she did, this album was a complete success. The title of this album is “Canciones de mi Padre” (“Songs of my Father”). She discovered "The Eagles" who would open concerts for her.

Sorry if I'm splitting hairs, but the eagles did not open for LR. She hand selected a few guys to be her backing band for a tour, and those guys became 'the eagles'.

Thanks for sharing. Every time I hear Linda sing these Spanish songs, it reminds me of when I was younger and I would go to my grandmothers house in East Los Angeles and this music was be playing. My family would get together to bbq carne asada every Sunday. Brings tears to my eyes of happier times 😢

Aww...Linda Ronstadt; an incredible singer! She can sing just about anything and everything. All different genres. Sadly she doesn't perform any longer due to illness. Another amazing performance is: "La charreada" from 1987 Also, but a total different genre is "Blue bayou" or "You're no good" Thanks for reacting to her and a big shout out to whom requested her! Awesome reaction to America's best female vocalist ever. She has a great variety of albums that are all good. Her collaboration with Hoyt Axton on a song titled "Lion In The Winter", is one of my favorites. However, Linda's vocals really penetrate deeply in her Mexican rooted voice. Exquisite music.

Linda Ronstadt is one of the best female singers & can sing any genre from ballads to country to rock & even opera. I have this cd of all her Spanish songs. She has had so many hits such as "Blue Bayou", "You're No Good", "Long Long Time", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", "Desperado" etc. Ronstadt also did two great duets, "Somewhere Out There" (with James Ingram) & "Don't Know Much" (with Aaron Neville). The Eagles were her backing band till they went out on their own & she has covered a lot of their songs.

Que cante en español no quiere decir que sepa el idioma..,no sabía nada de nada de español ,pero nada Pronuncia tan bien que hay quien cree que si sabe Pero no Ni una palabra ,lo único que *hablaba* por decirlo de alguna manera eran las letras de las canciones, canciones que su padre amaba y escuchaba ,y ella creció escuchando esa música, de ahí el título del album "Canciones de mi padre" (no por que fuere mexicano como muchos creen) Por que así como ella ,nacieron en Tucson Arizona Su abuelo era alemán, emigró a Sonora México, ali se caso (la abuela paterna, si nació en Sonora) El matrimonio emigró a EEUU, Tucson Arizona y adquirieron la nacionalidad, Allí nació el papá de Linda ,que se casó con una estadounidense (de EEUU) ,mas concretamente de Michigan ,de ascendencia inglesa/holandesa...Y allí nació Linda Ella empezó con el country/rock, entre otros géneros Muy reconocida en su país EEUU, e internacionalmente, muchos ya la conocíamos antes de las rancheras Tres músicos de labanda de la que ella era vocalista, abandonaron el grupo, y formaron otro gran *grupo* .."THE EAGLES" ni mas ni menos,en sus comienzos ensayaban en casa de Linda Cuando grabó *Canciones de mi padre" a los que nos gusta también este género nos sorprendió muy gratamente Por que para cantar este género no sólo hace falta tener voz, sino sentimiento Y ella tiene ,y de sobra, ambos atributos, una voz portentosa, y sabe sentir esa amusica que escuchaba de niña Ea dijo en una entrevista que le hicieron en la televisión mexicana, (ella por supuesto contestaba en inglés, nada de español) que su referente musical era la gran cantante mexicana Lola Beltrán ¡¡¡VIVA MEXICO!!!

Yes, believe it or not, Linda is one of the best Mexican ranchero music singers. It’s really mind-blowing that she could sing in Spanish with a really Mexican accent, but only when singing. She recorded two excellent albums singing this genre: “Canciones de mi padre” and “Más canciones”. By the way, this concert is really amazing; I have the DVD (An evening in old Mexico) Greetings from Mexico.
