It is now 9:29 p.m. CST, February 12, 2023. I'm getting real right now with MY life and life itself. I'm 68yrs old, born August 20, 1954. Why am I doing this? I've been watching Linda's Mariachi over and again when she was younger. Mesmerized, of course. I knew in my mind she's much older and has a type of Palsy that's similar to Parkinson and can no longer perform now, because of it. I knew that....but saw the REALITY of it in an NBC interview 3mos ago. I just finished watching the video a little bit ago. My...how time flies by. At my age, 68, EVERY entertainer I grew up watching....be it Actor/Actress.....Musicians/Singers.....etc. ........are either dead, or at the dying age. Linda Ronstadt looks good, but as an older woman now. She's 76. Her hair is totally gray....she hasn't colored it. I think that's genuine of her. She's who she is. It's a struggle for her to eat the way she shakes. Her and the reporter interviewing her were eating a meal that she cooked in her home....her recipes from her growing up days. It's sad, but she remains upbeat. This SHORT life has it share of life on life's terms. Thank God for the videos that have captured the Mariachis and everything else she's ever done in her younger life. God Bless Her!!

The 31st Annual Grammy Awards were held on February 22, 1989 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. They recognized accomplishments by musicians from the previous year. The album Canciones de Mi Padre was released in late 1987 and quickly became a smash hit. It stands as the biggest selling non-English language album in American record history. The title Canciones de Mi Padre refers to a booklet that the University of Arizona published in 1946 for Linda's deceased aunt, Luisa Espinel, who had been an international singer in the 1920s. The songs come from Sonora and Linda included her favorites on the album. She has credited the late Mexican singer Lola Beltrán as an influence in her own singing style, and she recalls how a frequent guest to the Ronstadt home, Eduardo "Lalo" Guerrero, father of Chicano music, would often serenade her as child with these songs. From 1984 to 1991 the award was known as Best Mexican-American Performance. From 1992 to 1994 it was awarded as Best Mexican-American Album. In 1995 it returned to the title Best Mexican-American Performance. From 1996 to 1998 it was awarded as Best Mexican-American/Tejano Music Performance.

She brought the Light to theTradicional Mexicano Music. I was about 7 or 8 years old when I met her. My dad's mariachi was backing her in a city and I was touring with my dad that summer just hanging out and she said come here, I love your cheeks, he has such beautiful cheeks and she pinched the shit out of my face LOL.

Goes without saying how spectacular her voice is, but what made viewing this so gratifying was her obvious joy in singing it. Thank you for unearthing this fantastic performance. Kudos as well to the musicians, dancers, and the "lassoist!"

I know she had an awful lot of help throwing it together but the effort to put the road show together made an album more like a cinematic event, really great dedication.

@@tjwash2 So good to see your post. Always enjoy your insights and observations. Thought of all of Ms. Ronstadt's admirers on July 15th, her 75th birthday. Her resilience is remarkable.

I have that CD, when CANCIONES DE MI PADRE (songs of my father) came out. This Lady is a treasure. HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH!!!!!!! Biden, Linda needs to be up there with our own CESAR CHAVEZ.

You can tell she's not just doing these songs as a gimmick. She shows that they mean something to her and she nails the vocals.

Nah, papi. You don't hear it, but she does have a chicano accent. I'm Mexican born, US raised (TX/FL). I'm fascinated by accents and language, so I 😊notice it. Selena had the same thing. In "Torro Relajo", it says, "qué mi prieta chula". She doesn't land the I and says ,"preta" instead of "prieta".

She still IS beautiful, a natural beauty but such a shame she’s lost her wonderful voice. However she still delights us with rare appearances and she has a new book coming soon about her growing up in and around Tucson and the Sonoran region of north Mexico
