As a 66 year old woman I thank God EVERYDAY I got to be a teenager in the 70's. Saw Linda many times and was never disappointed. Waddy Wachtel on the guitar was a fixture accompanying many of the great voices of the 70's 80's, 90's and on and on. Maybe listen to Karla Bonoff's version of her song.

Thanks Harri. Your comments are always thoughtful and right on target. That’s Don Grolnick on keyboards and Waddy Wachtell on guitar. Linda always surrounded herself with top notch musicians to play in her band both for the studio and for touring. She also never had a problem with stepping aside and letting them shine. Just a great human being in every possible way. 🌺✌️

This song sort of saved my life. make a long story short, I was a high school senior in 1977 & had a crush on Linda. I was delivering pizzas at night & the ground was covered with snow & ice. This song came on the radio and I stopped driving just to listen & enjoy this song. I parked on a steep hill at that time to listen to Linda & I saw a train come and pass below where I was parked. After the song was over I continued to drive on down the hill. When I hit the brakes for the stop sign right before the railroad crossing the ice was so slippery I slid right on through the tracks. The train was gone by then but If I hadn't stopped for Linda I would have slid right into the train. The Pizza joint didn't have chains for the car. They bought them after that night though. So in a way Linda Ronstadt saved my life.

1963 to 1973 was unique - the planet held its breath & stared at us. I clearly remember "Different Drum" - 1967. We at the heart of the Movements stopped Vietnam - then schlock rock & solitude took over. "Someone to Lay Down Beside Me" - 1976 - reflected our broken loneliness. In dysfunctional 2024, it is even more painful to hear.

From Linda's Grammy winning album,"Hasten Down the Wind"from 1976 and It went to Number 42 in the US. Just a beautiful song about loneliness and laying with anyone just for the warmth and comfort at night. Her vocals are so appealing, and so emotion filled you always relate with her library of memories. The Piano solo to start is just so beautiful and the guitars are magical through out. Always a treat, love her Spanish songs, they really highlight her vocals. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Debbie. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Living in the UK we rarely got the chance to see Linda live. She did 6 shows in late 1976 of which I was at 3 of them (including her first UK concert at Birmingham Odeon) and 2 of the London dates at New Victoria Theatre. A beautiful singer with a beautiful voice singing a beautiful song (written by Karla Bonoff).

Linda Ronstadt is one of the best female singers & can sing any genre from ballads to country to rock & even opera. She has had so many hits such as "Different Drum", "You're No Good", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", "Somewhere Out There" (duet with James Ingram), "Don't Know Much" (duet with Aaron Neville) etc. The Eagles were her backing band till they went out on their own & she has covered a lot of their songs. Linda also collaborated with Dolly Parton & Emmylou Harris on a few "Trio" albums.

From the great songwriter Karla Bonoff. Her version is worth listening to. She obviously doesn't have the firepower of Linda, but her voice is gorgeous and you can just feel that it's her song. Plus the solo, by the same guitarist you saw here (Waddy Wachtel) is, I think, even better.

Someone to lay down beside me was groundbreaking when Linda Ronstadt released it. I remember the first time I heard this song. It was in the vein of great troubadours. Harry Chapin Don McLean Gordon Lightfoot. The stories of people who are alone and looking for someone. In the lyrics Linda is allowing her heart to break front of you. The way she shows the resignation in her voice wanting the morning to matter with the man she went home with knowing that it will not matter. So sad.

Linda Ronstadt got booed off the stage at the Aladdin casino on July 19, 2004 for expressing her support for controversial documentary filmmaker Michael More and was escorted to her tour bus and her belongings from her hotel room sent to her and sent word she was no longer welcomed there. Too bad artists get caught up in politics.

BULLS!#%. We were there. She simply dedicated her last tune of the evening to the film that exposed the disastrous war Bush brought us to in Iraq. A couple of dozen people walked out and ripped down the outside poster. The majority cheered. Ronstadt was not staying at the venue and was not escorted off the premises. She left comfortably in her car. The manager of the Aladdin made up the controversy, as most right wingers do - he lied for publicity. Soon after Ronstadt' s colleagues canceled their appearances there. The Aladdin went bankrupt soon after. Linda Never sang her political opinions. Her voice in song and otherwise is glorious. Go do your homework- stop believing LIES.
