I’m curious if you know, how did La Charreada become the default track for Canciones de mi padre that everyone reacts to online or tells people to listen to? As far as I know, that album did not have any singles, or if it did, La Charreada was not one of them. So why does that specific one get so much notoriety? I almost never hear anyone talk about the other songs on that album other than maybe La cigarra

One of the most touching moments I saw at a concert happened when Karla Bonoff opened for Jackson Brown. She received a standing ovation for this, her closing song and was called back for an encore. Unaccustomed to such a positive response, she broke down into tears.

Karla is a great songwriter - Linda’s recorded several of Karla Bonoff’s songs, including three on the 1976 album Hasten Down the Wind ("Someone To Lay Down Beside Me", "Lose Again" and "If He's Ever Near"), and "All My Life", a 1989 duet with Ronstadt and Aaron Neville. Bonnie Raitt has covered her song “Home”.

There's a song on an early album Linda did and the name of the song is "Birds".....it's a very emotional, sung from the heart of a break up song that Linda puts her soul into. And by the way it was written by Neil Young so check it out.

Unlike so many disposable performers today, artists of the 60`s, 70`s & 80`s were making music for the artistry, not to get rich or have their 15 minutes of fame. They were true musicians, with true visions, who had long careers and devoted fans that would anxiously await the newest release of their favorite artists` next albums ... not just some catchy ""song of the summer", where fans are only interested in downloading one or two songs, and then just want more of the same. Past artists liked to experiment and grow with different sounds. styles, genres. They would have been bored just doing the same thing/same song styles forever, or until their fans got bored too, and stopped listening/buying. I love Linda's different styles ... the woman could sing the phone book and make it sound great. In fact one of my favorite Ronstadt albums is called "What`s New", a collaboration with famed bandleader/arranger Nelson Riddle, released in 1983, and made up of traditional pop standards from the 1930`s - 1950`s. Linda said she wanted to rescue these beautifully-written gems, from being relegated to instrumental elevator music versions. Both Linda`s manager and her record label were very reluctant to take a chance on this kind of music, from their client, who at that time was considered one of the top female rock vocalists. They finally gave in and boy did she prove them wrong, with the album going to the #3 spot on the Billboard Chart for 5 consecutive weeks, behind only Michael Jackson`s "Thriller" and Lionel Richie`s "Can't Slow Down". It remained on the Billboard Chart for an incredible 81 weeks total, and was certified triple-platinum (3 million copies) in the US alone, with global sales topping 5 million! The album`s title track single "What`s New" would be great one to start with, if you feel like branching out on Liinda`s amazing and varied catalog. Also she looks gorgeous on the cover, reclining in a pinkish/purplish, lace ballgown. ☮️ Steve (KanTexCali)

Written by the great Karla Bonoff, who does an excellent version herself (with a great solo by Waddy Wachtel). If you want to explore Karla, try her version of the old folk ballad The Water Is Wide. One of the prettiest things you'll ever hear. James Taylor on harmony and Garth Hudson of The Band single-handedly rehabilitating the reputation of the accordian. Gorgeous. I am fortunate enough to be headed to see Karla in concert tomorrow night.

Linda was an incredible interpreter of songs. Not a writer. It's cool that she chose to showcase the writers on this album. A lot of writers ended up with contracts after Linda did their songs. She helped bring Warren Zevon to the attention of the world.

Generally true, but she wrote some of her songs. In fact, she wrote "Try Me Again" on this album, and I think it is fantastic. She didn't ever perform it in public because it was too personal - it is one of the most heart-wrenching songs I've ever heard.
