Your most recent videos are reminiscent to tone and structure of your videos from a few years ago when I first found your channel. I'm loving it. "Outfit of the day" is something I've always enjoyed and seems unique to your channel. You and Stewart do a wonderful job as a team creating and providing content. Thanks for all you do and for all your sharing.

Hahaha! My husband and I had a good laugh over the wisteria pods popping open. We had a dining table under our wisteria covered arbor and the first time they started opening and sending their seeds out we jumped and ran. We thought we were being shot at. We teased our guests about needing hard hats to sit out under the arbor. while enjoying a glass of wine. We would start yelling "incoming" to the delight of our grandkids. Very fun and Very cool.

Tip: Remove all the soil from the roots of your geraniums, put them in a paper bag, and store them in the basement for the winter. Replant them in the spring, and they will come back to life. I've done this for years with great results. On another note, I would talk to your arborist about the redbud so close to the foundation. If it wouldn't cause an issue, I would definitely keep it! 😊

Very much enjoyed this video and you got me to look up all the new perennials I put in my garden this year to verify how to prep them for winter. I bring my geranium and begonias into my garage and allow them to go dormant. I place geraniums in one black landscape bucket with soil and begonias in another. Fantastic story about the wisteria!!!! Nature 🌿💗🍂 Thank you!

I think I would see how the redbud does over the next year or so. Small caliper trees are easy to remove usually. I'm letting several redbud seedlings develop because of the age of my old redbuds. They are beginning to get messy with dropping (what seems like) too many small limbs/twigs. My redbuds signal to me new beginnings, hope for the new season...and sunny days ahead!😊 They sure make the spring glorious with those first blooms popping out from all the redbuds, my beautiful and finally very productive plum, the new nectarine, then the Crabtree. along with the spring blooming shrubs and bulbs.. SPRING ☘️🌷 Time to get back in the garden beds again ❤. Love all your videos. Thank you Linda and Stewart

My worst battle with bugs, are the Japanese Beetles, with my beautiful Hybrid Tea Roses, and all my Climbing Roses. This last month, the roses buds have been none stop with beautiful blossoms. It’s such a shame we have to wait until mid September to really enjoy the garden W/ O insects. We just had our first real frost last night in Minnesota, north of Minneapolis 30 miles. PS: Had to pot up all 27 large Eugenia 3 ball 4 ball, Spiral , some are 8 ft. Tall. My garage is now holding over 50 repotted plants. Will be transporting to basement,as soon as they dry out some, for ease to handle. I’m soon to be 76 yrs. my Husband is 81 yrs. In a week. We look at one another, this time each year, and think, can we keep doing this another year. My answer always is , I will garden, until I can’t. 🤣🥰🎃🌻🍁🙏

I just brought my eugenia's in, first I trimmed them kinda hard and then I sprayed and drenched with insecticidal soap. As I did with my Myrtles, we haven't had a frost, but temps in the high 30's here in mountains of Virginia. Its just a matter of time. Leave the redbud, I love that option and all your plantings will love it. I had a volunteer redbud sprout, I have four currently going to move in the next week, but this one shot up and was going to be a one trunk tree, I cut it as high as I could, and then it acted like it was topiaried in a ball. But I had a cedar deodar planted near, and in a few years, it was not sending branches out on that side, so I cut the redbud down to the ground, I now have a redbud bush. It was a risk worth taking...well I saw it at Gunston Hall many years ago, and the gardener had accidently mowed over a seedling. Geraniums love fall. I only over winter my scented geraniums and my ivy geraniums. In years past I overwintered everything, but my own personal space is limited, and my collection of citrus has grown, in numbers. This past winter, I needed valuable room in my "winter greenhouse", not a greenhouse, and I enjoyed my geraniums in the garden until frost killed them. I actually started most of my current geraniums from seed, easy peasy and much cheaper. Currently asking garden club members if they have wisteria....lol. Happy Fall y'all! .

Hi Linda, I so enjoy your videos, but had to let you know I noticed that at about time marker 33:00 there is daylight coming in at the bottom corner of your front door. We had a similar incident with a gap in the weather stripping and had a mouse enter our house through the hole. It probably felt the warm interior air escaping and snuck in. I’m 71 & like you my energy has suddenly changed & I honestly don’t want to have a large garden anymore. I would like to sell & have a very small garden about the size of a courtyard! lol (like the nice shady ones in Savannah GA). I spent the last week transplanting coneflowers into garden beds that I had in 5 big plastic whiskey barrels to try to simplify watering & to declutter. I got rid of all my geraniums in pots because they never do well throughout the summer. I have several tropicals that I have to bring into the garage to overwinter, but this year I’m keeping only half. It’s still too much. 😊

I agree with you on the dahlia to cut it back and leave it in the ground. I also agree that the redbud seedling will give you a better idea if you want it there by leaving it til spring. As for the geraniums and begonias, I would overwinter them in the greenhouse. I prefer established plants vs getting new plants to grow as I want them. All the best to you, Stewart and your family!

Hi, Linda. I am in metro St. Louis, MO. I apologize if you already have extensive redbud experience, but I have found them to be extremely high-maintenance. Once your redbud gets to the height providing the shade you desire, it will begin to shed dead branches and you will be constantly weeding out volunteers. Also, if you decide to remove it, it will be extremely deep-rooted and difficult to extricate. The counterargument to my position is that my redbuds were in significant shade for about half the day, so that may be one consideration. Love your videos - I use them to relax!

Hi Linda! I would caution against keeping the red bud seedling that close to the cottage. We had to remove 2 small redbuds that were damaged by the wind and we were shocked with how deeply rooted they were only after a few years. The roots were very thick and had run underneath our above ground pool that was nearby. Removing the red buds was very difficult because of the deep roots and I’ve also not been able to plant near the location they were growing because of the amount of thick roots we’re still trying to dig up.

I would leave the small redbud tree, as it is a gift from above!! I moved my flowering maple tree (Abutilon | Tiger Eye Chinese Lantern) inside since we are projected to get into the 30s at night this week. I placed a 4 X 4 greenhouse under my open carport which also gets some sun each day and is blocked from the cold. Last year I was able to place my Boston ferns, spider plants and my Foxtail ferns in the small greenhouse and they all lived. That way, I do not have to put up with all the dead leaves from the fern during the winter.

The seed pod story is so funny. I believe Mexican petunia seeds explode similarly to this, also. I've had to remove a few zinnias due to powdery mildew, but my dahlias are coming into their own right now; they haven't looked as good all season. We had our first frost at 33 degrees last night here in N MS, but no plants seem to have suffered damage--frost was apparently confined to rooftops and windshields.

My redbud tree is already almost all golden and dropping leaves, here in Portland Oregon. Also it is planted very close to the foundation of my house. It was here when I bought my house 15 years ago. I did some research and found that it is a tree that can be planted close to foundations because its root goes straight down.

Remove the Red bud. Replant somewhere else. It takes away from the boxwood collection.
