Up to them to do it themselves. No one gave my European grandparents money to continue their traditions within the home and teach the new generations.

@@mr2_mike But, I think your European ancestors weren’t against enormous intention(government and Vatican include) to take their lands and destroy their culture and family. I heard they found 751 unmarked children’s’ body in one of residential school. This went on years and years. Government and our society should do our best to help them put their home back, culture back, pride back. I wish them have great leaders with vision to pull this through. Fighting.!

@@soo-youngkim4813 They just had to deal with Communist dictators, armies and police who arrested and sent whole families to labour camps. It wasn't a compassionate prison. Everyone has had atrocities committed against their people over history, land taken, death, torture. Ask Jews, Palestinians, Chinese, Tibetans... The list goes on forever.

Was super surprised to hear about Mi'kmaq being a well-reserved language. My dad's side of the family recently found out the specific tribe we're descended from is Mi'kmaq, and lately I've been reading up on it to learn about the culture, language, etc. My grandpa's brother has been involving himself in the culture for a few years now to get back what was taken from my great-grandpa.

Because a person's culture is part of their identity, history, and family. Because language is part of that culture. To allow those unique details to die is a tragedy. Only people without foresight or depth don't care if that uniqueness dies.

Growing up learning and experiencing the culture, heritage, and language of Cree was amazing. I can only imagine how amazing the other cultures are! Hoop dancing, beadworking, etc. Are beautiful! The lessons you can learn from their heritage is immeasurable. She mentioned briefly that rocks are animate, I challenge you to understand why that is. This is an amazing video showcasing so much that is easily missed. Educate yourself on the cultures, because you'll grow more than you think.

New Zealand signed the UNDRIP in 2010. We are currently debating the He Puapua report which guides our government on opportunities to realise the UNDRIP in our future. Naturally … the far right white supremacy perpetrators of colonisations institutional racism are objecting to this important work attempting to label it as separatist segregation dividing New Zealand into a state of two laws for different cultures … of course they wrong and their redundant tirade is a reflection of their inability to evolve with the multicultural community wholeheartedly adopting the attitude of promoting Te Reo Māori under The Treaty of Waitangi.

Why are we revitalizing a language that is not used. Frankly we should be unifying to a main language
@rykloog9578
@rykloog9578 3 жыл бұрын
Its not like they dont speak a major language. The people who are speaking revitalised languages also speak English, or French, or Spanish, or whatever world language is in their area. These people are acquiring two native language, one indigenous and the other a world language. Its all about culture, identity, and belonging
@nHans
@nHans 3 жыл бұрын
As an employee in a multi-national company and a frequent worldwide traveler, I do welcome your suggestion of having a single, universal language. That's purely from an ease-of-communication point-of-view. In fact, everybody agrees that a universal language would be helpful, though there's no universal agreement on what that language should be! 🤣 However, that's a completely different issue from revitalizing a language that represents one's history, heritage, and culture. I see no conflict in having it both ways. Most people already speak two or more languages in order to communicate with different groups. There's no reason why they shouldn't be allowed to learn and use another one, if it means that much to them. Remember that it's not being forced on others. With a little bit of understanding and tolerance, any two people will always be able to find a _lingua franca_ to communicate with each other.

I care about the revival and preservation of the cultures of the Native inhabitants of our continent. 95% of their entire race was murdered, their land was stolen, and they were forced to abandon their cultures and adopt European culture instead.
@skaven969
@skaven969 3 жыл бұрын
@@laneatkinson6441 yea but does that get us closer to space travel? You may value different things in life, I prefer if we use our knowledge to help grow infrastructure and relate new information so everyone can use it, things that will get us moving to a better future. Yes this is all well and good and we can learn from these old cultures like the Roman, Egyptian, Viking, Mongolian or other parts of the world, but keeps us dwelling on the past and reiterating the same shame as if we are at fault for those who we stand on the backs of to build our history and society. The planet could have free energy permanently if we disband nuclear weapons and use them as power sources, but instead everyone is blaming everyone else for their issues on where they stand and pretending electricity powered by nature is as effective as the fuels we burn. Judging people on their family lineage and assuming they arent doing enough. I'm rambling, sorry
