Anne Boleyn the most famous mistress in history who won Henry VIII’s heart and the crown away from Catherine of Aragon. He split the English church from Rome for her but later grew tired of his second Queen and had her beheaded. Her legacy was being mother to one of the greatest Queens in history, Elizabeth I.

the fact that she was intelligent and educated and a talented writer, she gave generously to the poor and charitable causes and supported education and also extended an olive branch to Mary shows how badly her image is spun in history. I also believe that Anne and Henry wearing yellow each had different motivations. Henry was probably doing it to piss people off and cause a stir wheres i now feel Anne was genuinely doing it as a sign of respect to show that she did not see any ill feelings towards Catherine. I feel Anne was a pawn in the game of men from the start. her father pushed her to marry Henry because why be a Countess when you can be a queen. and then Henry felt like he needed an excuse to get rid of Catherine and Anna was the perfect excuse. More should be written and taught about her and more perspectives about her experience should be written about.

Oh, I don’t believe for one SECOND she had any respect for Catherine. People haven’t changed. No woman NOW would have respect for a woman who kept her from her heart’s desire for 7 years. No way. She felt the same way we do now. And she actually told a nursemaid to “box that bastard’s ears (Mary)”. Now, if she may have have some sympathy after she HERSELF was in the same position, though granted she didn’t have much time to repent, herself being a mother, is up for conjecture.

Flibbertigibbet6 That May be true, but I doubt very seriously they wore it to honor Catherine. I’ve never, in any of the books I’ve read, had anyone say that. Certainly nobody at the time said it. They wore yellow, a happy color, and went to rejoice that they were really free now. They were pretty hard hearted about it.

I will add that Anne’s fall and execution were caused by a few more factors, beyond her miscarriage in January 1536 (of a fetus believed to be male) and her dislike of Henry’s continuous infidelity. Anne also disagreed with Henry on how the profits seized from the dissolution of the monasteries should have been used. Anne believed that the seized goods should fund educational and charitable ventures that would contribute to the Reform movement, while Henry fully believed that all contents seized from the monasteries were forfeited to, and thus direct property of the crown (as in, Henry should’ve been able to keep all the seized wealth for himself). This disagreement led to a Chaplain affiliated with Anne giving a sermon which compared Henry to king Ahasuerus being led astray by Haman (symbolic of Henry’s advisors who supported him keeping the seized wealth, and who did not support the educational endeavors Anne promoted), in which Anne was compared to Esther. I.E. In order for Henry to walk the path of righteousness once more, he needed to listen to Anne and not his advisors. Henry did NOT appreciate this sermon (as you might have guessed), and this hastened his resolve to make Anne fall. Combine that with Thomas Cromwell’s vendetta against his once ally Anne (now, if he wished to gain power, Anne had to lose power), and Henry’s increasing paranoia and we see how a Anne could fall in such a relatively short period of time. I recommend everyone check out Claire Ridgeway’s work on Anne Boleyn, and especially “The Fall of Anne Boleyn : A Countdown” if you want to learn more about the reasons behind Anne’s fall.

I love Anne Boleyn so much. She is one of my historical heroines, the other Anne Frank. I honestly think she was probably the most influential queen consort of English history. She was able to change the country’s religion based off of one book she introduced to him, and of course his love for her contributed also. Such a shame it ended so terribly, and everyone around the world knew the charges were lies and trumped up. A video suggestion, could you do one on Catherine Parr she is just as iconic.

Anne is definitely one of the most interesting of Henry's wives, primarily because she used the leverage of marriage as a way to gain power. Gaining power for a woman was different than getting power for a man, as for a woman it meant possible security and stability in a time when she had no guarenteed of safety, from dying in childbirth to being legally beat to death by her husband. Women were disadvantaged economically and socially, and you can't blame Anne for wanting to try and find a way out. She very nearly did, save for Henry being a lecherous creep. I really love a lot of the modern portrayals of Anne in media from grade-A actresses - Natalie Portman and Natalie Dormer are the most well-known. My favorite has to be Genevieve Bujold from Anne of a Thousand Days, who to me seems most like how Anne would have been in real life.

Anne also ordered her stepdaughter be a servant to Elizabeth, it was designed to humiliate the princess Mary and show her that she was now no longer royal, so a bit disingenuous to say that Mary rejected Anne's overtures of friendship. She really didn't endear herself to the Catholics of the country, so she found very quickly that she didn't have any support or protection when her downfall came, she tried desperately to forge a relationship with the Spanish ambassador towards the end, most historians agree that it was because she realised that whilst she had pushed for French interests, the French would not help her.
@alisha5100
@alisha5100 3 жыл бұрын
To be fair, a lot of that came from Henry since Anne's political clout was reduced after Elizabeth's birth. Since Elizabeth was the kings only legitimate heir at the time, the people she was surrounded with and learned from were carefully selected and though anne may have had some input it was mostly Henry's say, especially when it came to Mary's appointment there since Mary was the kings other child and placing her in a serving position was controversial. One popular theory is that Henry wanted Mary there so that she would be humiliated into declaring herself a bastard, preventing a succession crisis down the road. I feel really bad for Mary, Anne was not a good stepmom and Henry may have actually have been a worse father

This was a wonderful video on the life of a fascinating Queen! As someone who greatly admires Anne, I’m always hesitant in watching videos that cover her life, as so much of what we know of her has been sensationalized and falsified over the centuries to paint her as some scheming, ruthless harlot, and I hate having to watch content that unjustly perpetuates this mythical image of her. This video thankfully did NOT do that, and (although there are errors in this video) I feel that Lindsay did a stellar job (as she usually does) of portraying the complex, tenacious, caring, and intelligent woman Queen Anne Boleyn was! To the Eternal Queen and Mother of Gloriana, here’s to Anna Regina!

I realize we’ll never know what actually happened and historians debate this point but I think it’s far more likely that Henry asked Cromwell to think up a way to get rid of Anne rather than Cromwell just doing it on his own. There’s a documentary on this, the last days of Anne Boleyn if anyone is interested

Excellent video! The only small correction is that the photo used for Anne's mother is actually a portrait of Margaret Pole, one of the last living Plantagenets who was sadly executed at 67 (well into Henry's reign when his paranoia hit crazy levels). She lived quite an amazing life and would be a great subject for a future video! She lived through the wars of the roses (cousin of Elizabeth of York, Henry's mother), saw her brother executed, was a peeress in her own right, lived on to have many children including the infamous Archbishop of Canterbury Reginald Pole, and was cruelly executed at 67. I highly recommend checking her out if you haven't! :)

I always admired Anne; she’s one of my favourite wives of Henry and like Katherine Howard and Katherine of Aragon, she was misunderstood for false gossip and (maybe) jealousy. I never knew some parts of her life like giving charity for example; she was certainly intelligent, kind and caring - though her temper did lead her down a dark road but who can blame a person if you find them in a bad mood? Apart from that, she was a woman ahead of her time; and if she hadn’t been born, then the UK would still be Catholic, there’ll be no influence and education for women; there would have not church services that would be inclusive for everyone by changing the original language for every one to understand and (I think) there would be no female monarchs who would be allowed to rule in their own right (including Elizabeth 1). So generally, Anne was one of a few women who changed the inclusion of women and the world without realising it; I know not everyone would agree but tbh, that’s my own opinion. I cannot wait for next week’s video on Elizabeth. 😁

Thought I would watch and listen to the story of Queen Anne Boleyn since it's the anniversary of her execution. She may be a rather complex and controversial woman, but she is incredibly fascinating! It's very sad that King Henry VIII had poor Queen Anne killed on trumped up charges, but she got the final triumph and the last laugh, when her daughter Queen Elizabeth became England's greatest queen! ❤👑❤

Well done, as always! Queen Anne was such a tragic figure. She worked so hard to help get rid of Queen Catherine, who had done nothing but love her husband and serve God and her people well. It seemingly never occurred to her that the same thing she was doing to Queen Catherine could easily be done to her. And it didn't take long at all. So pathetically sad. Great video, as ever. Please keep the outstanding videos coming and God bless you, my friend!

her poor parents , to have their daughter ,and son , killed in such in a horrible fashion , must have been devastating as parents , whether they'd believed in the accusations or not . At the end of the day Both Anne and George were still their kids , and to know that their offspring had to die in such a way is so sad .

I Loved the history of Anne Boleyn as a child in History class and still love it to this day. That poor woman was robbed and even still is accused of things that are untrue. I am a London tour Host and always make sure to tell her true story when I go past the Tower of London. She was an amazing woman of British History who gave birth to an amazing woman of British History! Love Her! Thank you for telling her story! :). (Also, she was beheaded within the walls of the Tower, not on Tower Hill, like the others. Person’s of high status like her were given a little better treatment ... if you can call it that. )
