I went the same week as you. The cold always makes the bite real light. Indicator fishing works best then. I went 2for 3 each day. Orvis recommends a 10 ft 8 wt for an all-around rod. Hope you and your pals come back. Love your videos

You all are exceptional anglers. When i fisrt started chasing Steel it took 2 yrs before i landed a fish on my own. Great job too all of you! Yes when it comes to reels i use a sealed drag. I feel it helps keeping dirt and ice from getting in. And one with very low start up inertia. Tight lines always!

Great video and glad you guys had the chance to fish the PM in Baldwin, MI. You are so right about being there, the time on the river and the company you keep. We have spent many days on the PM with friends who are only memories now.... and it's the people, the friendships and the memories that remain.... it's the fishing and the challenge that brings us together. I will be heading to Baldwin in two weeks to join some friends for another shot at catching a few Steelhead. It was good to see some familiar waters in your videos and as you mentioned, the local people and other anglers you meet are a great group of fellow fishermen. This spring will be my 47th annual spring steelhead season at Baldwin and every year is different and more than once we've made the trip and simply got skunked... it happens to the best of fishermen. Take Care and Safe Travels

I was worried when I saw the snow reports for Michigan some parts of the State had it bad enough for snow days. It was a case of if only the trip was two weeks later the water would be perfect. You as ever stuck at it and gave it your best shot. Again thank you for sharing the experience.

HI LINDSAY! fishing us nice. i can tell you over many years of fishing here in pa there all a lot of days were even the most skilled anglers go home empty handed. and winter fishing is a challenge as well you know. next trip come down when its a little warmer and have at it! knowing some of the guys and gals that fish the stream every day is a big + . over the years the stream i fish i have tried many different things learned from other anglers. some times and some days they work and other days well you know. Rember a bad day of fishing is better than working CHEERS!!!!!!!!!

Robert, it was exactly up my street, I enjoy the challenge of the fishing. We were getting one or two chances a day which I think was acceptable. Definitely come with a new reel next time though, mine was not up to the task.

Great Video Lindsay and well explained about managing expectations. I'm originally from Scotland but moved to Canada in 1969 with my parents. Just spent 8 years back in the UK where I did some fishing before retiring back here on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Now I am retired, I decided to start my own You Tube Channel Fly Fishing the Maritime Provinces in Canada. (This includes Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.) I am not promoting my channel here, as there is nothing to see yet and fishing season starts tomorrow April 1st and closes the end of October. I was wondering if you have ever considered a trip to Canada to fish. We are on the Atlantic Ocean with Bras d'or Lakes running through Cape Breton. Every brook, stream, river and lake have fish. Some small and some large. No matter what time of year you come through the fishing season, there are fish to catch. (Not always the big ones). We have several good salmon rivers for Atlantic salmon. One of the best is the Margaree River where you can catch salmon late spring, summer and autumn, however the Margaree River does not open to Salmon until June 1st but does open for trout (all species) April 15th. Like the USA, a non resident seasonal license for trout is $34.80 and you are allowed to fish all rivers, streams and lakes for the entire season. However a 7 day salmon license is $63.65 BUT salmon fishing is catch and release only which prompts the question why bother? You can fish for trout on the Margaree for $34.80 all season. If your are fishing for brown trout and a salmon takes your fly, you can't help that. Either way you simply release the fish. You can access all rivers via uncultivated land which means you cant walk through someone's groomed garden, but if you walk down the sides there is no problem. There are so many rivers and streams, you may come across 1 or 2 other fishermen. (Exception the Margaree,. but you can join the que for your turn to fish a run). My plan this year is to promote how good the fishing is here in the Maritime provinces and every province has something different to offer. It may be worth your while to look at a trip to the Maritime Provinces or maybe some of your subscribers might like to give it a go and let you know how they get on. Cape Breton is just like the north of Scotland with more trees. The wildlife is 2nd to none and so is the fishing. Nothing better than catching some fresh run sea trout 12 - 13 inches and frying up a couple on the banks of the river, then feeding the bones to the Bald Eagle sitting on the tree behind you. Looking forward to your future videos no matter where they are. Well done and keep them coming.

i was waiting for your video of steelheading on the PM to pop up but for some reason i missed it first time around … brought back a lot of memories of ‘chuck n ducking’ on there and the Muskegon river …. sounds like your group did pretty decent on a scant steelhead run …. and it can be like that on those rivers …. when you said 12lb leaders i was a bit taken aback… we always fished 8lb Flourocarbon Pline 10lb if it had a bit of color … you can get away with 6lb on the Muskegon but that’s a wide open river with not so many snaggy bits …. anyhoo it bought back quite a few memories … did you check out Baldwin bait and tackle at all? anyhoo great video thanks for sharing the highlights of your trip 👍👍

Overhyped river. Run has been awful the last three-five years. Also, way too crowded. If you like seeing a drift boat and people every 100yds then it’s a great river for that.

There were a few boats but nothing like when the King run was on. Can't say we met many anglers on foot either to be honest. Perhaps that is because the runs have been poor the last few years? It being my first trip for Steelhead I have nothing to compare it to.
