Initial look at the New Hanak Superb RS 939 Dry Fly Rod

I already own three different Hanak nymphing rods, I know its ridiculous but what can you do! When I saw that Hanak had released a rod specifically made for dry fly fishing I was keen to give it a go. My good friends at Hanak Competition have lent me for one season only (I have to give it back) the Superb RS 939. It is a 9' 3" rod for a #3 Wgt. In this video I give my initial thoughts on the rod as a prequel to the full review coming late November.

This rod at first look seems to be a perfect brook and small river rod. Looking forward to your updates and final review. So far it seems at least on a par with Hardy. Hanak have a range of tackle produced to the highest standards. Their hooks are superbly designed.

@@lindsayiflyfish It was watching your channel that opened my eyes to not only their existence. Also the total quality of their range of hooks. Every item of an angler’s equipment has its role to play. The hook is unfortunately underestimated in its functionality. It is so much more than a base to attach materials to. The balance of factors in relation to performance requirements and function. Is the material strong/flexible enough without being brittle. Is the size design and weight of material correct for task? As in a small dry fly must not be to heavy. A heavy gauge wire is needed for getting the fly deep quickly or when the target fish is large or stronger. What works for a small grayling or trout on a stream like a fine #20 dry is not ideal on a large stillwater if you are targeting ten pound plus pike muskie or zander. Getting that balance right is as important with hooks as it with lines. Probably not the best idea to use a DI8 for dry fly or a #12 Spey line with a eight foot #3 rod.

I had a Hanak Competition 10" #7 until a couple of years ago which I snapped through my own carelessness . I contacted Hanak and explained my situation and asked for a price for a replacement top section . After getting ignored by the European HQ I got referred to the UK rep who took up my case then completely ignored me . After 2 years the guy from Czech HQ contacted me offering a top section that may or may not correspond with the rest of the rod and was looking for over 100 Euro for the privilege . I bought an Orvis with a peace of mind guarantee instead

like i say in another Lindsay Video, a overpriced chinese (i some cases korean), 2 year warranty rod. I tried for a year to contact them to ask them something, they don't answer to emails. In other note, thank you Lindsay for your videos, and please, when you film on the water, show the tips of the rods, I don't care what the fish look like.
