I have had a lot of requests to do some videos on how I would dial in a few different amp models in the Line 6 Helix. I decided to take a closer look at the Solo Lead amp models (Clean, Crunch and OD) and see if I could dial in a nice 4 snapshot preset ranging from Clean to Distorted tones. Here is what I came up with after messing around with it. Hope you all enjoy and please feel free to subscribe to my channel if you are so inclined :-)
The patch is on CustomTone here: line6.com/customtone/tone/386...

Nice work. I got my Helix just before playing a musical theater gig (Mamma Mia), and used the stock patches of this amp. I still like it.

Thanks again for your time and effort on this series. The Soldano clean is one of the more versatile clean models on the Helix (it breaks up a lot, but in a good way). I use these three models on stage, and they work well to deal with the weekend cover band set list. I’m tinkering with the Archon clean and OD models currently and they also lend themselves to a 4 snapshot patch. Check them out sometime if you like this approach.

Another enjoyable half hour spent watching one of your videos. I hope Line6 recognise all your great PR you do for them. One question, when you switch from playing rhythm to a solo in a song, would you switch to a different snapshot that was driven e.g. go from clean to OD in Soldano patch, or would you create a snapshot that was the same as your rhythm snapshot that was just louder?
@JasonSadites
@JasonSadites 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Andrew :-) Line 6 is a fabulous company to deal with! I would likely work either way depending on the situation, but setting up a snapshot with a little volume boost is not a bad idea for leads.

Thank you so much Alan :-) I monitor in my studio with Tannoy Reveal 502's. But what you hear in the video is just the Helix directly into Cubase via USB. And yes, I just record the videos in one take and edit it for length after the fact.

SLO 100 is a two channel amp, but you can set the crunch channel quite clean, The Decatone is three channel.

cannot program footswitch on Helix floor to switch between snapshots to go from clean, push, OD and Distortion. I have downloaded several of these and for some reason on version 3.11 it won't let me move from bank up down section to where I can use foot switches to activate / deactivate all the pedals and amp settings. What might I be doing wrong?

Wow, I've learnt so much from your videos. I used to struggle to get a great tone out of my pod go. Now after watching you I can dial-in sweet sound within 10 mins... Finally I can understand EQ and how to use it to shape my sound to what I really like. I think I'm gonna go for a helix very soon. I like that DSP... I really like to have such a versatile tone like this one but to use more than one amp I'd need pod go's big brother.

Hi Jason, I see you using a shortkey to switch your parameters to snapshot mode. But I can't seem to find this shortkey in the manual of HX edit. What shortkey are you using ? It would save me a lot of mouse clicks :-). Thanks.
@JasonSadites

It was actually shown to me by one of my viewers and is a great help :-) I am on Windows and you ALT-Click and it changes the parameter to snapshot mode! Hope it helps!

What is the thought process/ logic behind the sound levels within these snapshots? I did a luf measure with some gentle strumming helix direct into logic. I got clean 4-5, boost 9-10, OD 16. lead at 20-21. Whilst there obviously should be a difference it does seem extreme to me. Is it random or by design? Yes I know I can dial it back! Thx and great work and support for the Helix community

Hey Dave, in this video I was simply just using my ears and adjusting the volume to what sounded like a good balance to me. Although, with time constraints of the video I am not being as careful as I may be given more time. As I mention in the video, the different snaps might need to be balance more carefully. Thanks for the kind words :-)

Do you have a target volume / loudness luf ratios you might try to achieve when balancing snaps?

If I am hooked into my DAW I really just am glancing at my peak meters to see that I am not clipping. Other than that I am usually trying to get the peaks up around -4 or -3 on my DAW's peak meters and then just balance by ear. I haven't felt the need to use my Loudness meters yet but might try it out at some point. Hope that helps :-)

How to get changing params on the snapshot to automatically be set to be changed on snapshot? I have this issue when using snapshots that I have to switch over to the page with controls and assign each param which I want to adjust per snapshot. Do you do that all the time or there is some smart trick?

Is there a reason why you put two cabinets in paralelle rather than a single block with dual cabs? Wouldn't that be a more efficient way to do the same thing?
