I worked at a music store in Edmonton in the 80’s and a young teen named Pete Thorn would come in and just blow us away even back then. He probably wouldn’t remember us but we were at Mothers Music and Steve Walker and I always loved listening to Pete. Very nice guy, super talented even back then. I think I’m going to pick one of these pedals up both for my limited guitar but better bass sounds. Thanks Pete, not surprised where you are at. Your albums are amazing. Cheers man! Les

You may have to flatten the eq, but I had a 64 Concert and I didn't like running processors right into it. It was good but not great. Id rather crank it and add stomps/effects. You could mod it to access the power amp only...it would sound great like that.

What was surprising was how extensive the connectivity and control options were on such a compact unit. 4 cable method retains. Parameter assignment to MIDI CC# or footswitches for toggling between min and max values rather than being limited to on/off states of blocks, and the snap shots feature gives 3 rig variations for saving and recalling different parameters for the rig. This pedal is great. The reduction of processing blocks to 6 is limiting, but I can appreciate having a built in gate at the input and I can patch my physical volume pedal into the series loop post amp and these free up blocks for other processors. If I need more effects I can just MIDI slave a 2nd unit. Exciting product.

No doubt that Pete's playing, the Suhr, this particular Deluxe, and the way it's recorded all sound exceptionally great though

It’s one of the coolest amps of all time, for sure... a good ol mid to late 60’s Deluxe Reverb. I love them.. One of those, along with an early 60s ac30, and a 68 plexi, and a modern gain kinda amp and you’re set to do basically anything.

Pete will tell you that he reviews products without factory input. He tends to be very open about what he reviews, and won't review stuff that he wouldn't himself use. You should watch his KZbin channel and see what he writes about that on TGP. Just because he "gets all these things for free" doesn't mean he'd necessarily recommend them.

This is so very tempting. I have a five channel mixer and powered PA speaker that I run my amp Sim pedal (joyo British) through. I like that I can use my headphones and pratice quietly. This little bad boy would fit right in and I wouldn't necessarily need the 8 other petals that I want to add to my current setup like a cab Sim, fuzz, OCD to name a few. Then I would be a DAW away from recording..... Dear Santa...

The HX Stomp video that we need is demonstrating the unit in the context of a song. Guitar Center, please revisit the HX Stomp with a couple of well-known players and have them play a couple of songs each, dialing in all the tones they need for the song, breaking down their tones, but most importantly showing how they can bank up/down or use presets/snapshots to navigate the different sections of the song. We all get how great HX Stomp sounds, the features, etc. Show us how it actually functions and navigates in a real-world scenario! Because that is ultimately the difference that everyone cares about and nobody is addressing it in a practical demonstration yet.

Hey, there's no need to be a jerk. There are already tons of Helix demos out to demonstrate the sounds and you can try Helix Native out for free on a 15 day trial. If you want to know how it sounds, check that out because it's all pretty much the same thing. The main differences between this and Helix are the number of blocks available per preset and the number of footswitches you have to access blocks, snapshots, and presets. For folks like myself who play professional gigs as a sideman in multiple projects, it's important to see if these limitations will compromise the performance too much. For me, the sounds don't mean much if I can't efficiently activate and navigate them on stage. Someone like Pete would be a great demonstrator for this. He could play a couple of songs off his new Pete 2 record and we can hear the sound of the HX Stomp in the mix, watch how he controls the Stomp to get all the effects he needs, and then get a breakdown of how he dialed in his sounds. Would something like that really be so terrible to watch?

I had to send back my TONEX Pedal to IKM after 3 replacements. I agree with you that the equipment you invest in and rely on playing gigs MUST be reliable. Playing lead guitar since 1965 and having invested in a lot of great gear, I NEVER had a problem with reliability. Never had to call tech support .... and these days, it seems like "tech support" is staffed with folks who have NO technical expertise. If a product really is great, you will never need that tech support ... or warranty replacements. I find myself once again shopping for a good, realistic, reliable, and durable Amp/Cab modeler. When I decided on the TONEX, I had done a lot of research online and on You Tube .... including your review of that product. Unfortunately, that was not good enough. It's a big problem when you can't get a product in your hands before you buy it. These days, it seems like a gamble. Thanks for your videos Pete.

I have some older Line 6 pedals -- the DL4, MM4 & FM4. If found the the MM4 had some great mudulaion sounds, but it was unusable because the volume drop when you clicked it on was so bad. Imagine you are at the gig, you are about ready to click your swirlies on and scream, and the sound goes away. :/ So that pedal sits in my big bin of pedals that are not on my pedalboard at present, and I am not sure if will ever emerge from the bin. Has Line 6 fixed this problem? I cannot see using any pedal -- no matter how good its effects are -- if it is going to eat my signal.

Great demo Pete! Although the HX Stomp has all of the Helix's effects, according to it's review in the May 2019 Guitar World; "the only compromise is that the maximum number of blocks that can be used to construct sounds is six instead of 32, as in the high end Helix products." Not really a criticism, I just ordered an HX Stomp myself. : )

I bought one of these hoping to use it to replace my current pedal board. But unfortunately it sounded terrible compared to my current reverb pedal, fuzz pedal, etc. There aren't many options for tweaking the presets and I just couldn't dial in effects I liked. The HX can do a lot but it doesn't seem to do any of it well.

I'd love to see this as well. If it's fully programmable with midi, that's an instant buy from me(already have a midi pedal for using with a midi amp head, & definitely don't need more than 6 blocks in a signal chain).

James Bowman except, I already have the HX effects, and even together the HX stomp/effects are cheaper than the helix floor. For me, the pairing is more than suitable. The only thing I’d potentially miss would be a stand-alone wet-dry-wet rig, which I’ve never really done or needed, it would just be nice.

For us home hobbyist looking for a digital recording solution, how would this unit compare to getting something like a UA interface and using amp modelers in that to record?
@thedudeofficial69
@thedudeofficial69 6 жыл бұрын
It would technically be the same in terms of tonal capabilities. The only benefit you get from having a physical unit such as HX stomp is the ability to use it outside of a DAW/studio setup. Helix Native is a very good plugin/amp sim for DAW use. I think it runs around $399, but it contains everything from the helix products. If you don't already have an interface, HX Stomp would be a more cost effective option all in all. Either way, you get the ability to record guitars and bass. Most of the other plugin based products that are a bit cheaper are focused towards metal, and have little versatility whatsoever. Cheers!

Line 6 is not technically the same as Universal Audio and the Line 6 isn't "exactly the same as my Binson etc" sheesh - it's an okay product but talk about smoke and mirrors! Ford make okay products they don't make vintage Chevvys and they don't make Lamborghinis ..
@thedudeofficial69
@thedudeofficial69 6 жыл бұрын
No, HX Stomp(or really any other guitar-based modelers) isn't meant for vocals, and it doesn't have XLR in/out which work as main ins and outs for vocals/mics. Also, very true Mark, it is in a way smoke and mirrors, as it's not an "all purpose" interface, but rather just a designated way to use the product easier with the internal sounds.

FWIW, I’m currently experimenting with the HX LT and it’s a lot quieter than my pedal board.

the HX seems to add some (very feint) phase issues with certain combinations just like my hd300. Makes me wonder if a few cabinet IR accidentally got their polarities reversed or something like that ?

Im using my Vox AC 10 w the hx Stomp and it seems patches only sound decent when I disable the Cab sim blocks. Can any1 shed any light on this? Soon as I enable the cabs it sounds shit. But they sound great w my studio monitors always.
@BenSalzmann
@BenSalzmann 5 жыл бұрын
Your AC10 IS a "cab" so naturally if you're pushing cab emulation tone through an actual cab, it's going to sound wonky.

people with big youtube channels like you never answer comment questions but Ill ask anyway. I play live with a deluxe reveb and 3 pedals and a tuner . I have a boss OD-1 a TC delay and a Freidman OD1 . Its a pain in the ass and buzzes like crazy and the delay does nothing ? Is there a multi effect pedal I can use so I can just plug that into the amp PLEASE help ? Like the thing Ritchie Kotzen uses maybe?

Rick Danner take a look at the HX Effects pedal if you like your amp tone and just want effects from the Helix.

I'm curious on how it reacts with a DigiTech Drop Pitch-Shift Pedal? When I drop to some low tuning amps kinda sound like crap, it would be nice if it could handle the tone.
@Bernz66
@Bernz66 5 жыл бұрын
Steve Klein it would work fine.... you could go guitar -> Pitch Shift -> HX Stomp or guitar -> HX Stomp with the Pitch Shift in the Effects loop but you would be giving up one of the six blocks in the chain on the HX Stomp

Do you know if helix patches will work in the stomp box?
@gcoller
@gcoller 6 жыл бұрын
They won't. Stomp only allows six blocks vs full size helix. Your patches may fit into the HX if they aren't too complicated but you'll have to manually recreate them right now.

Does it work with your preexisting helix patches? I know you can only pick fewer effects at a time when compared to the other units
@aaronkerr2481

It does not, as far as I'm aware. Jason Sadites did a dialing in on it a few days ago. You can open edit for full helix and hx stomp at the same time and cut and paste your six blocks, though.

The one thing it DOESN’T do (to my knowledge) is switch amp channels. This is a must if you want to want to run it in 4CM and not use a separate footswitch to change channels...🤷🏻‍♂️

@Dennis6661

It more than likely a IR from celestionplus.com. Best IRs I own. I’m guessing that because he didn’t mention an actual cab ir. Just the speaker. That’s how Celestion does it. They don’t model cabs. Just their speakers. He mentions their IRs in a lot of his videos as well

@@Dennis6661 I think you're right. I have the Celestion Greenback 412 Closed Back IRs. Trial and error just now I found that the 121+57 IR matched really close to what he's getting. It's a really well captured IR without flubby lows and has some nice sizzle on top.

Dennis - looks like they use cabinets. How else could you get sound? Buy all 5 G12H (55) IR cabinets (1×12 open, 1×12 closed, 2×12 open, 2×12 closed and 4×12 closed) in one pack, to save 40% compared to buying them separately.

They don't use specific branded cabs. They probably have to mount them in something regardless. I'm sure they've got some kind of neutral cab that they know the response of to tailor around and make sure you're getting the specific tones each speaker reproduces.
