"Metal-ur-jeee" 👍 Metallurgy is the art, science and technology of turning metals and alloys (i.e., materials consisting of two or more metals) into forms suitable for practical use. 🤘

Line 6 probably has the most dramatic redemption arc in all of guitar gear. Hats off to them for going from everyone's punching bag to one of the top dogs in guitar tone.
@chrisgoblin4857

I don't agree with that sentiment. I used to play in a band where the other guitarist used a Line 6 Pod XT Live floorboard and I was blown away by the quality of the sounds. It was just a shame the Spider is all anyone remembers. Also some great higher end Line 6 amps like the HD147 and the Vetta HD from back in the day.
@givemeajackson

they never were the punching bag lol. people just didn't know what they were doing, and people remember sounding like shit when they were beginners with their spiders. some of the most revered modern metal tones are pod/pod x3/pod XT, like meshuggah, animals as leaders, monuments, and periphery.

I am a huge fan of Neural DSP plugins, and have spent way too much money on them, but I tried out the Line 6 Metallurgy series and as soon as my trials were up, I bought them. I can't lie, I probably use the Line 6 Modern more than any of my Neural products. For $200, you get all three of the Metallurgy plugins and it's definitely worth it. I've been a Line 6 Helix user for a few years and I have plenty of real amps, but I almost exclusively (probably 95% of the time) use plugins now. I'm no gear tweaker and I don't spend hours messing around with dialing in "perfect" tones; I'm more inclined to find a great preset and modify as needed, and these plugins are great for that. While Line 6 won't replace Neural DSP entirely, especially when it comes to non-metal tones, these are great plugins.

I got the trials, tried them for like 20 minutes, then let them expire. Comes nowhere close to Neural DSP. It's not just the tone, it's the way the amp sim feels and responds to your playing. That said, Neural does sound better IMO.

Ola - "eh, it's sounds pretty good" - his tone tells you everything. Nothing really excites him here. I understand why. L6 has always struggled with cabs for some reason. You should test it with a 7 or 8 string. I really find the Helix plug in falls apart when I get low. Switched to Amplitube and it's night and day better. Even IR's couldn't clean up the bottom end of the HX stuff.

The dynamic low-pass filter in the noise gate is pretty smart. I still feel that Helix Native is the better product, but Metallurgy can be a good choice for people who don't care about having hundreds of different amps and pedals and rather have a easier signal chain. However, I can't for the life of me understand how the bug that makes every Line 6 software unusable when there is a portable drive, USB-drive or SD-card connected. It has prevented me (and probably many others) from buying both Helix Native and Ampeg SVT Suite, simply because I can't have any form of external drive, USB-stick, my phone or SD-card connected if I want to use their software. This bug has been prevalent in all of their software for at least 10 years and it doesn't seem like they are even trying to fix it.

@@trevorphilips9484 I thought it was the "no disk nr 0" problem, but it seems like that's a separate issue. I already had a disk with the number 0, but I also tried changing so that my C: drive has number 0 and it still doesn't change anything. I used to have this problem with an old PC maybe 10 years ago and now I have it with the Intel NUC I'm running today. I did buy a new NVMe SSD for it not so long ago (not for this reason) and I thought that it maybe would work with a new drive and clean system. But, alas, the problem still persists.

Other than the Mic choices-getting to use two on a cab and Capo feature this just seems like a GUI repackaging of the Pod Farm Metal Shop Pack-which I own and still use! It's been out longer than most of you have been alive lol But true with any amp sims it's better to use your own IR's. That's what it's about-making it your own. People think new is better. That's not true all of the time. Pod Farm 2 is ancient but still brutal-like me!! ;)

I'll be honest. This "new" Line 6 plugin suite sounds to me no better than their old plugins that I still use on their Tone Port USB interface. I hear very little difference. Sadly, while they pioneered digital modelling technology and I'm grateful to them for that, their current plugins don't hold a candle to what you can find in Guitar Rig or in Neural DSP's plugins. The Neural DSP Rabia Massad plugin is absolutely mind-blowing in how rich and lush both the distortion and clean patches sound like. To me it's like listening to 8 bit digital audio and then listening to 24 bit digital audio when comparing Line 6 to Neural DSP. Don't get me wrong, you can still coax some good tones out of Line 6 products, but you have to work a lot harder at it. I still use my Tone Port/Gear Monkey Line 6 software every so often. The synth sounds alone are worthy of using it still. Plus it has clean modes and bass guitar patches that work awesomely for other instruments and even vocals. But... I think Line6 needs to hire some new software engineers (who are also talented guitar players) who can rework their emulations to once again make them cutting edge.
