Thank you for this demo. It looks so cool. For anyone who doesn't understand this method, here is the breakdown: 1- Before going for the lineart look, make sure you have made your character in different parts. Head, body, 2 arms, 2 legs, all separate objects and not a single object. This is what they have done in this video. (Also, I think they removed the Principled BSDF shader and used a flat color shader instead such as emission shader, etc.) 2- Use Grease Pencil LineArt Modifier on each part. So at 0:17, you can see all the modifiers. Starting from "Body" all the way to "Ears", there are 11 LineArt Modifiers applied to all the body parts, separately. 3- Use the Subdivide Modifier for the GP LineArt to get a smooth and more accurate shape of lineart. 4- Use the Noise Modifier to get a raggedy look in the lineart. 5- Finally, use the Thickness Modifier to control the thickness of the overall lineart. Have fun. And let me know if you need more elaboration.

We need more of this in the world. Animation that goes all in on the 2D aesthetic. Lots of studios have left 2D behind, and although some have tried to replicate 2D through new mediums in recent years, it's not quite the same. This on the other hand is part to even tell apart from actual 2D.

I need an outline for a mesh but only the border and not it's individual parts. How would I go about getting that effect? For example, let's say a character has spiky hair, but I don't want the outline to outline each strand of hair but instead create a border around the silhouette of the hair.

@@PLASTIEK Yes. 3d has its advantages but as an animator time is money so you would only really need to do this if you were going to do A LOT of animation with a particular character which, after 10 years or so working in the field is very rare. I used to spend time doing things like this (toon shading in Lightwave) or setting up complex 2d rigs but in the end you spending 10 times more on setup than creating the animation. Now I do simple rigs and manipulate them when I am animating and do things in much less time
