Way too much scribbling for me. Multiply (1) by x: x^2 + xy = 11x. Substitute (2), xy = 30, into the above: x^2 + 30 = 11x, and re-write: x^2 - 11x + 30 = 0. Now factor: (x - 6)(x -5) = 0.
