Just came here for a question. He did all this complex stuff. I did it so much simpler and got the same answer: let x represent the # of trees initally let y represent the # of trees now Therefore x = y + 5 y = 41 790 / 210 x = y + 5 y = 199 x = 204 Therefore the number of trees macdonalds farm initially had was 204.

Even simpler, you could just directly divide 41790 by 210=199 then add 5. Giving a grand total of 204

I did it a simpler way. I don't know if it counts as "linear equations" but this is what I did Let t represents the number of trees 210(t-5)= 41790 210t-1050=41790 210t=41790+1050 210t=42840 210t/210 = 42840/210 t=204

The association shown in this example is out of order and confusing; the problem only defines "remaining" tree harvest and output. So... t=41,790/210+5, or t-5=41,790/210 not 210/(t-5)=41,790. "t" harvest and "t" output per tree are valueless unknowns and irrelevant to this equation. "t" has no initial association with either value uniquely representing the remaining trees.

hi can you answer this immediately:) In U. S., a monthly electric bill(b),in dollars, consist of a $20 monthly fee plus $0.07 per kilowatt-hours (k) of electricity used. The amount of the bill is a function of the kilowatt-hours used and is given by b=0.07k+20.Estimate the bill if 1,500 kilowatt-hours of electricity is used.@KhanAcademy

What would the slope be for this equation?
@theextinctsurgeon31010 жыл бұрын
I was wondering that why you didn't do this 210*t and 210*-5. that would shorten the equation to this: 210t-1050=41790, then throw the -1050 to the other side and you would get an equation of: 210t= 41790+1050. then divide and get the value of t

How come the equation looks 210(t-5)=41,790. Isn't it the the remaining trees produced the 41,790 not included the cut down trees? so the equation for me must be 210(t)-5=41,790

You choose a demotivating problem to teach equation solving, because any intelligent student will tell this MacDonald to just count his trees: much simpler solution and a better one, too! Only an idiot would believe the premise, that each tree will produce EXACTLY 210 oranges. This is not a real problem solved by math, it’s just a more or less fancy riddle solved by math. Are you teaching the people math to get them better at solving riddles on the last page of a quirky math teacher magazine, or to solve real world problems….?? Your dedication is remarkable - kudos - but setting the goal right, could make a much bigger contribution to peoples lives. Don’t only teach math, teach swift real world problem solving with math.
