If you are confused as to where the numbers come from, we can simply choose a value for x and solve for the unknown y or vice versa. For Example: 3x + 5y = 10 I can just pick some value for x, let's say 1. Now since x is 1, I can plug a 1 in for x in the equation. 3(1) + 5y = 10 3 + 5y = 10 Now, I have a linear equation in one variable. I can solve for y: 3 + 5y = 10 5y = 7 y = 7/5 This tells us that if x is 1, y is 7/5. You can pick any number you want and plug in for x and solve for the unknown y or vice versa.
