As someone who studies/reads classical Japanese literature for fun (if you ever get bored of learning regular Japanese, try looking up Classical Japanese, it's a wild ride) I've always been a fan of Linfamy's work. However, if you ever want to hear about a whole collection of Japanese folktales from the late Heian/early Kamakura period, or you just want to know where you can find old Japanese stories in general, hit me up. I love talking about this stuff.

I had a very good friend that played the shakuhachi. His flute was made of a dark, knarled piece of wood that was a bit bulbous on the bottom end. He was very proud of it. It might've been a gift. 🤔 Either way, when he played it around new people, I would calmly say to them, "Did you know that flute is made from a fossilized bull p#%!$?" Straight up serious face. 😐 Seven outta ten people believed me, but George could never hold a straight face while blowing on the tip after I said that. 😏😂

I firstly learned the name of the modes from the Japanese gagaku, but it sounds like having poor connection with the gagaku's mode. Are there just five notes in one mode of the hitoyogiri?
@TairyuShakuhachi Жыл бұрын
No, there is 5 distinct modes. In this example, each mode starts on the tsutsune, all holes closed and notes are shifted around to fit the new mode. The pieces highlight the differences much better than just playing the scales.

@TairyuShakuhachi Жыл бұрын
it had a lot more holes and the tuning was quite different. It you have more on its origin stories I could take a look.
@commentnahipadhaikar2339 Жыл бұрын
@@TairyuShakuhachi Ofcourse, variations do happen as well as influences. Even in the version of its origin, it says China, that means it is not Japanese on first place. Then even in story, the theme of suffering and truth does indicate Budhhistic theme. We now say it Tibetan Buddhism, but that type of Tantrik and Agamik Buddhism was popular among Buddhists in parts of India from where it reached China. Even Tibetan Buddhism had great influence on Chinese culture.
@TairyuShakuhachi Жыл бұрын
