Link Arm Removal & Maintenance - Yamaha Tenere 700

Will, this is a long one. But one part of the Winter maintenance series, so bare with me.
Had some issues with the link arm to main frame nut, damn stupid nut.
The damage on the link arm I sustained late summer looked worse than it was in real life. So will not need to replace any bearings etc.

Great video. The bolts don't wear, they only clamp the tubes to the mounting points and dog-bones. The tube never turns on the bolt (unless the nut comes loose). Grease is only needed on the bolts to prevent corrosion. Also, it's worth checking the condition of the seals.

Good idea and tutorial, I greased mine up except the top front bolt, too difficult to remove for me, but I hope it will be fine, but all the bearings seemed lubed well enough to me honestly.

Yea the bearings are usually okey, it’s the bolts that are bone dry most of the time. Put some Lithium grease on em and they last a lot longer

I think there should be a very small amount of play in them bolts as you found. Room for the fresh grease.

Hi thanks so much for your video, I have a question for you. I am in trouble about to re-install the front bolt because I have not space enough to insert the wrench in order to apply the correct torque. May you help me? Should I remove the exhaust pipeline?

Fint need to use a socket and torque wrench in my opinion, I just torqued it by feel. No way I remove the exhaust 😬

Got to do mine over the winter as it’s 15 months old, handy video for me, thanks. Should be easier to remove swing arm, shock eye and frame bolt and remove dog bone and link plates together, then remove bolt holding them together. Or isn’t there enough room? Have you greased the bearings b4, or is this first time it’s been apart?

To remove swing, you need to remove the shock, cable holders and the bolt I had issues with + the swing bolt).. will remove that today and make a film

@@everythingtenere not the swing arm, the swing arm bearing bolt to remove the link and plates. I said swing arm, shock eye and frame bolts, the ones you remover.

Yes, i have a new set of sprockets and a closed loop chain I will put on. Wheel bearings too

Good job. Would it be feasible to tap in zerk grease fittings on the protected side of the pivot block?

Yes, I come to the conclusion it’s not needed. It’s the bolts that drys out, not the bearings. And putting a grease nipple, not sure if it needs to be on to a bearing?! So it can spread the greas in captive needle bearing stack. As it’s double bearings in some and single in others. So would need 2 nipples etc?
