Mario and Little Mac being extra pissed all the time when they are cheerful guys in their games. DK and Bowser making weird monster noises when the Bowser Jr and the koopalings have their canon voices... Olimar not having his deep funny voice, and having only Alph as an alt when you could have the other captains. Wario lacking some WarioLand rep outside of his dash attack and a song. Ganon still being heavy Falcon for most of his moves and Sonic as a whole really. Don't get me wrong, I love Ultimate, but there are so many missed opportunities, it's weird, especially when newcomers like K Rool are filled with references from everywhere.

DK’s voice is a relief imo. Nintendo has been making his voice far more cartoony. His voice in smash is more akin to the gamecube days and makes him more intimidating in a fighting game.

I TOTALLY AGREE, also Bowser should use fireballs like in every 2D game he is in. Letting the FireBreath to Charizard(?) There are a lot of stuff they CAN use, however I know making extremely accurate interpretation is hard to execute, specially since that character has been that way for a decade+

I think Fox and Captain Falcon are okay, since they not fight directly in their games (Well, you can count Star Fox Adventures but it's not very iconic IMO). However, characters like Ness and Mario could have a way better moveset.

As a sonic fan seeing sonic like he is hurts. Sonic is so poorly designed. Two of his specials are basically identical (ik they have different uses I used him for 4 years btw). He has none of his cockiness half his moves put him into a ball it’s just ugh

@@cobravenom1316 Honestly, I'd rather get rid of his Side B. At least his Down B functions like how it does in the original games. His Side B could be the Light Speed Dash or the Boost. I'd also hope they change his aerials and make his idle animations more true to the source material. But hey, he's in the game, so I guess we should be grateful he's even in.

Bowser has an unique design for Smash, and the voicelines from Mario games don't fit with it IMO.

I don't really like how he is standing and moving, I prefer brawl bowsers design more because of this. he feels more bulky and more intimidating. and how the PM team changed him was nearly perfect

While I understand the sentiment, you have to realize that with a series like Smash and any FG really, you have to be consistent on how a character played originally and not alienate those who've played Link over the years. While I agree more BotW elements would be great, there's still a faction of Link players who like him. I know it's easier to say "well what about Young/Toon Link?" They may play similarly but they still have different move properties, so it's about choosing a favorite Link. I'm not saying I agree with this idea, but I'm just saying there's a reason why certain things never change. Unpopular opinion but I prefer Ganondorf being close to Falcon, and I say this as someone who likes Zelda. Idk if I'd play him if he changed completely. Now there are certainly changes that could be made to benefit the character. Maybe changing how Samus plays would benefit her as her missiles kind of suck. Ganondorf using his sword for Smash attacks benefits him for sure due to the range those moves have. This video was pretty good at making Link still play how he would normally with more BotW flair, so I commend you for that, as I don't think changing a whole character's kit is gonna magically make them fantastic. I value function > style. It's also why I don't believe Mario needs to change. He's an all-around character so he NEEDS stuff like a reflector and a basic projectile. This is only my opinion though.

This. I think they designed the new Link pretty much perfectly. While he’s new enough to account for BOTW, he still has the same core that Link fans from other Smash games love and recognize. They balanced it very well. The only missed opportunity IMO is incorporating wall climbing somehow, but that’s a very minor detail.

I'd prefer a drastic change that makes a character more true to their franchise than keeping them true to previous installments. Those are different games so the new game has no obligation to keep everything the same between games. Changes made to characters between games are bound to affect who plays them due to difference in viability and move properties between installments anyway and that's something that can't be avoided when you change anything about a character between installments. People won't always be playing characters from previous installments for the same reasons as the current and that's something you can't predict because it depends on what players come to characters for. Some players play characters because their franchise, some for their character design, some for their play style, and some for their viability. Change any one of those things and some people will stop playing them and other people will start playing them, in a roster of 70 characters, people won't lose sleep over changing mains because of differences between installments. I personally dropped Ike because of how different he felt even if his changes are basically frame data buffs. And picked up Daisy solely for who she is even though I'm completely displeased with her moveset. My friend wants to play Zelda and Isabelle for their designs even though he hates Isabelle's moveset. He plays little Mac because of his franchise. It really varies what people come to characters for. But I'd much rather characters properly represent their franchises more than feeling true to older incarnations that don't do that. There are people who won't play characters from franchises they like because they don't like how they play like Sonic or Ganondorf.

I actually think they designed Link perfectly. The only things I would change would be maybe some cosmetic additions, such as his grab looking like he is using stasis, making his shield look like Daruk’s Protection, or giving his helicopter up special some visual aspects from Revali’s Gale. But since those are cosmetic, they aren’t necessary. Those changes would only make Link less a representation of all the Links in the series anyway.

I high-key disagree with this mindset. They change stuff all the time in smash brothers that most would've preferred staying the same. Plus just because a a character has the same move set, doesn't mean the style in which they play stays the same due to each game having a different game engine. I think changing a characters move set is a small sacrifice for what would ultimately be a more accurate and fun character. And yeah changing one's moveset doesn't automatically mean they're gonna be good, but it also doesn't automatically mean they're gonna be bad. Just different.

Young Link using the Adult Bow and Hookshot from OoT that he never used, and not the Majora's Mask variants. And no Fierce Deity as a Final Smash. And his Mask Transformations would be great too. I'd think he'd be better off representing Majora's Mask than OoT. Give him a Razor Sword and a Hero's Shield.

Samus, MOST DEFINITELY Samus, she needs a rework. Why doesn't she use the Morph Ball as a crawl(and fastfall)? The Down Special could still be the bombs but the Down Tilt could be like a Boost Ball. Where are the different Beam types, collecting the different beams is like the majority of the upgrades in her games and choosing which one to use in which situation Like the Ice Beam, Plasma Beam, Wave Beam Instead we have the Captain Falcon moveset except with an exploding Arm Cannon and only a single projectile. The dodges could be the ones from Other M, one of the moves could be the melee parry from Samus Returns Also, why are her alt costumes NOT her various suits from the games? (horrible pun intended)

@@samufinland5765 Fun fact: Captain Falcon's moveset is based of the fighters in the Beta Smash Bros. when Sakurai was using generic man models as characters (Similar to the fighting Polygon Team and then came out with the idea of making Nintendo characters fight.

I think Snake's alts could use some work. 1: Have the camo's be fatigues rather than just colored sneaking suits 2: Maybe MGS1 Sneaking suit? That way Big Boss doesn't get ALL the alts. He also should get better taunts instead of just slightly different versions of 1.

I think the Miis should play more so as they appeared in all the Wii spin off games instead of these 3 generic roles we can choose from in Smash. I would like to see a Mii that using moves and items from Wii Sports, Wii Play, Wii Party, Wii ANYTHING really! I feel like that would rep the Miis better. (Of course you can still choose your own Mii) Also, use the Mii Series icon for them and use the Wii Sports Victory theme for their victory theme! Then I could die happy.

I feel as though the role they fill now fits them better actually, Miis were always the kings of filling a role, and being a customizable characters fits with that. Sure, they've had stuff like wii sports, wii party and all that, but they've shown up in everything from Animal Crossing, to Mario Kart, to random stuff like Fifa. Being characters that allow you to put whoever you want into smash, is basically the exact kind of purpose they were designed for.

Mii Brawler can through bowling balls, Mii Swordfighter has a similar design to the Miis in games like Find Mii and Miitopia, and Mii Gunner... Well, I don’t know about Mii Gunner. Maybe that Metroid game in Nintendo Land?

It’s good to see somebody else agrees. I kinda thought he could use Magnesis as a ranged grab though probably without tether functionality. Maybe that Stasis could be his side special? It would activate on a very small area in front of him, kind of a mix between the spacing of Explosive Flame and the hitbox size of Rest, and would only freeze up opponents for a very short time, which might increase with damage. Mainly used as a tool for tripping up your opponent at first, but later can be used as a trap. And if you think that Stasis would be too broken because it nets you a free attack, tell me how it’s fair that K Rool gets a free smash attack if he grabs you.

Bowser's moveset feels good. Fire Breath, Bowser Bomb referencing his ground pound in Super Mario 3 and overall attacks. Its only his voice thats an issue.

Mario should use Cappy as Side B. Snake should have a tranquilizer. Ridley's Dair should bounce on the ground like OG Metriod. DK need cocoNUT gun. Sonic needs Light speed dash. Megaman should be more like SSF2 0.9v. And I swear to G O D, if Joker doesn't play as if he were in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Heritage for the Future or P4U... Ima be hella A N G E R.

I just want to change Ridley's down air to his "tail spike pogo hop" from Super Metroid and give it the same effect as the Greninja down air. The stomp he has now just looks too stupid for Ridley.

Its a reference to his move in Prime 1 (though if I remember correctly its missing in some versions of the original American release, but is fixed in all others including the trilogy version). Instead have that move work differently (it forcing you to fall makes it a bad move for an aerial character), and have his down B work like the pogo hop when used in the air.

I actually like that idea of his Skewer being different when in the air but the same on the ground. Would love to see how that works in a future title!

Why is Dr. Mario slowly turning into Ganondorf? His F-smash resembles a warlock punch, his down-B looks like one of Ganon's taunts, they have the same f-air, u-air and now d-air... This *doctor* is LITERALLY taking notes from the king of evil, someone needs to keep an eye on him before he starts using a giant q-tip as a sword.

The one character who I think got COMPLETELY SCREWED OVER when being translated into Super Smash Brothers was Wario. I mean they had 5 Wario Land games to draw his move set from and they use practically none of it. The only moves he has that are actually from Wario games are his shoulder charge dash attack, and his side special which is the bike from Wario Blast. And in Super Smash Brothers for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Brothers for Wii U, they removed his shoulder charge dash attack, which means for a while Wario only had ONE MOVE that was from one of his games (thankfully it’s back for Super Smash Brothers Ultimate). So that means out of his four special attacks, only ONE is something that he has actually done. Although I have heard some people argue that his neutral special attack is a reference to the inhale attack from Wario World, the move in Super Smash Brothers lacks the inhale functionality so I don’t consider it a reference. I mean using Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 and Wario Land 2 alone, I could think up a move set. His up special could be the owl from Wario Land 2 that would pull him upand that would be his recovery. His neutral special could be the hat from Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 that shoots fire. And his down special could be the ground pound that was in both games if I remember correctly, which would kinda be like Bowser’s down special but less powerful and a bit faster. And speaking of which, WHAT’S THE DEAL WITH WARIO’S CURRENT DOWN SPECIAL. Like what the hell, he has never done that, it’s such a random thing to include. And despite his down special (the waft), being completely made up for Super Smash Brothers, IT’S LIKE HIS DEFINING FLIPPING FEATURE IN SUPER SMASH BROTHERS FOR SOME REASON. It was shown in his original Super Smash Brothers Brawl reveal trailer, it’s mentioned in both his Snake Codec and Palutena Guidance, and it’s mentioned in his boxing ring nickname. Like what the hell, was there just some Wario game where like a waft is his main attack that I just didn’t know about it or something? Also, why is his iconic yellow and purple outfit not his default look in Super Smash Brothers. Like if they wanted to have the Wario Ware outfit as some of the alternate costumes that would have been fine, but to have it be the default one doesn’t feel right. I mean they still have his iconic yellow and purple outfit, but still, why is it not his default look? I don’t mind Link’s moves in Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, because at least they’re still things that he has like arrows and boomerang and his spinning attack. They might not be reaching the full potential with Link’s Super Smash Brothers Ultimate move set, but at least they’re still solid references. Wario just has nothing, and it’s a shame that such an iconic character isn’t better represented in Nintendo’s ultimate crossover.

Sakurai wanted Wario to represent more WarioWare than Wario Land(wich is shown for the fact that Wario has quick movement,like the minigames of that game).

This isn’t a character complaint but the New Donk City stage represents Mario odyssey so poorly. You got a game where the point is to travel around the world and the stage based on that game is just ONE kingdom! What the fuck were they THINKING?!?!

Spiraling Downward I agree, but I also think the reason they chose New Donk City only is because it's arguably the focal point of the game- it's in the middle of the adventure, the main theme of Odyssey is sung by Pauline in NDC (plus the NDC Festival is a celebration of Super Mario Bros. and the original Donkey Kong with the 2d platforming), it was the first thing shown off in the original game trailer, etc. Also, a traveling stage showing all or most of the game's Kingdoms would be borderline line spoiler territory. Although the game has been out for a while, there may be people who don't follow video games a ton who got Smash as one of their first games with their new Switch and haven't played Odyssey or seen much footage of all the Kingdoms yet. I do think a traveling stage with all the Kingdoms would encapsulate the game better though, and it would be really cool. I can just see why they made the choice they did.

I agree completely. The Zelda stage great plateau tower also misrepresented BOTW heavily. They could have had a traveling stage, even traveling on the bird Devine beast, all over the vast open map of the game. But no, they just stick you on the tower from the tutorial of the game. Missed opportunity imo.

The one thing that bugs me the most is the fact that Little Mac, Villager, King K. Rool and Bowser Jr. have boxing gloves. And Donkey Kong doesn't. The ONLY ONE in Smash that CANONICALLY fought Little Mac doesn't have his red boxing gloves with "DK" written on them.

Link's final smash could have been the four Divine Beast firing their beams at his opponents. Surprised they never thought about this. Also, you know how some characters have counters? Link could have used his perfect-guard as his counter, and if it's successful, he then dashes forward in a flurry of attacks.

This is my idea on Link's updated moveset: Neutral B: Switching between runes (like Shulk with his abilities) Bombs (sphere and cube) Stasis (stops time for a few frames like Mewtwo's confusion) Magnesis (acts like Rosalina's gravitational pull) Cryonis (Creates a barrier for a limited amount of time like Villager's tree) Side B: Mipha's grace (50 second time limit) Up B: Revali's gale Down B: Daruk's protection (as a counter) Final smash: Far away= Ancient arrow Up close= Urbosa's fury

I've loved Ganondorf since Melee, but it always felt as if they were holding back on his moveset. He felt like a heavy Falcon, not a King of Darkness. He can't glide, his jumps are poor, and he barely uses actual magic based attacks. When he was shown with his Melee look in the first trailer, i was ecstatic. But his moves still looked... lame. Sure he has his sword, but he was always a magic user first, swordfighter second. So i hope that in a future game (if there is one lol), they take this shit falcon clone and turn him into a magic-wielding, gravity-defying Warlock badass. Maybe I'm being a bit petty, but I've seen what the king can do in his home games, and it's dumb that they have yet to translate it into Smash. And yes, I've played PM Dorf, but he only feels a little better in that game. He's not dorf in that game, he's just a flying falcon with a cool taunt. End fanrant

Ganondorf is a character that would greatly benefit having different incarnations of him as separate characters: for example, Ocarina of Time Ganondorf would be as you said, a sort of heavy, floaty zoner; then you could have either Wind Waker or Twilight Princess Ganondorf as the sword-wielder everybody has been screaming at Sakurai/Nintendo to add since Brawl. That, or Ganon himself, based on his design in Zelda I or A Link to the Past where he isn't a huge beast.

@Nevaris Givebs true, the smash team will have to be really creative to give him a unique moveset to represent the puzzle games on the NES. But they proved that they can work with unusual movesets with characters like Duck Hunt, Wii Fit Trainer, and the recent Pirahna Plant. One thing I know for sure is that Dr. Mario DOES NOT represent the Dr. Mario games very well, or any puzzle games for that matter. It's a huge missed opportunity to have him use a bunch of tools and gadgets from the NES puzzle games like Wario's Woods, Yoshi's Cookie, and of course, Dr. Mario.

I agree, whilst I love the classic smash link design which is why I play young link mainly I think the basic link had so much more potential to have a different type of playstyle like the titan abilities. For instance what if you d hold down smash for long and suddenly a cage of Lightning’s like urbosas art shows up in a small area near to link. Or as you already mentioned: revalis gale for a better up b which would reach better distances vertically and horizontally but has no damage but could be used to toss enemies when used from the ground with the air blowing up. He could maybe have a wider time frame for perfect shield for use of Daruks shield.

That’s cause mario is supposed to be an absolute all rounder, having a multi hit move, a safe edge guarding option, a spike, a fast combo breaker aerial, a smash attack with a sweetspot, a kill throw and a combo throw, a reflector, a projectile, etc.

Link's up-special could work like Princess Peach's, with the going up and the gliding, except without the damage His down-special could be the round bomb with a press or the cubic bomb by holding the button His grab could be changed to be like Pac-Man's (slow but slightly longer range) where Link uses stasis to hold them in place

I’m alright with adult link. While I would have liked a different shield such as daruk’s protection, or the grab being magnesis, I like all his other stuff. Mario doesn’t change much, even though he just had a huge new game all about capturing stuff. I like link how he is

i think he’s that similar because of time constraints, breath of the wild was probably still being developed when ultimate was starting up its development so sakurai maybe didn’t have confidence that the resources he had at the time would truly represent the final game.

They could've made the grab stasis; you lock an enemy in and you pummel them as they're stuck to make them go flying further The grab could also be magnesis, which would include a z-air like the other liniks, but I think a combination of both would work better Also, you should be able to press down-b while holding the round bomb to change it to the square one

Literally all I want is for Bowser to have voiceclips from Bowser's Inside Story, or at the very least, yell "SHOW TIME" when he enters a battle. Him yelling "I RULE" when he wins, would also be a good touch. I like Bowser's base moveset as it is honestly

All smash64 characters should have been overhauled with the exception of captain falcon and mess. -Mario's moveset feels more like generic fighter than, jump man power up guy. His animations and mechanics could reference his games way better than fludd and cappy taunt. -Kirby is fine but his moveset could be way more inspired than generic kicks. His down tilt could be his slide luck and his entire moveset could be overhauled to have animations from a variety of iconic copy abilities. -Samus I don't know much about but I know that samus' moveset is hardly Samus. -DK is fine, but could be better. His useless down special could be changed to a barrel throw or something idk. -Yoshi I don't really know what needs to be changed cause his moveset seems the most inspired. But I don't play Yoshi games that often. -Pikachu could have each of its attacks be actual Pokemon moves instead of moves that either don't exist or it can't actually learn. -Jigglypuff same thing applies such as modifying how jigglypuff's weird stupid special moves work. Or not... who really cares about puff outside of rest? -Luigi could also be more inspired. Luigi cyclone and green missile aren't canon moves, but I can't see Luigi without green missile. His overall moveset could be more Mario inspired though. -Fox idk anything about starfox -Link could have a moveset and play style more centered around sword play than projectile spam but whatever. And I think that's it.

I believe that if you were to directly take a characters moveset directly from their respective games, they would all be op as hell. Imagine if Mario was capable of using Cappy as a recovery, or if Mega Man's mega buster shots traveled across the whole screen. In Link's case, he would have Urbosa's Fury, which would probably be the most broken move ever. Oh yeah, and Samus would have her space jump, as well as a constant Screw Attack, and her missiles would fire with more frequency.

Shield surfing with hylian shield, a unique guard system that doesn't break but instead you stagger when a hard attack hits the shield such as like ganon up tilt or a smash, maybe even pound.

As a veteran player with the Smash Brothers series since the first one and ONLY plays all the variations of Link, I can kinda see these changes being pretty cool. However, when I'm play Ultimate, I usually play as Young Link and if the opponent I'm going against requires a more semi-heavy character, I'll change to Link. That way majority of the moves are compatible. With that being said though, I would be interested in seeing how these changes you mentioned here would work out in a match or two.

The Sheika slate could be used like Shulk's neutral special and could be used to select items like cube bombs. Also you know that lock kind of special ability in breath of the wild where yellow chains appear around the item you locked in place and you can hit it so it gains energy? That can be used for a cool grab.

I mean there’s one small gripe I have with representation in smash: Dedede. He’s got a slimmer design & a different voice in currently the most recent Kirby game KSA (Kirby Star Allies). Then again, he changes a lot between games, and he’d need to change a lot to fit his play style & moves in KSA. And having every other alternate costume be current smash design and have his KSA design be his main design might not work ether, so idk. Oh & Meta Knight too, but he doesn’t really need to change much anyways. Oh and 1 more character: Mario. (And maybe Peach too) Mario could’ve had more representation of SMO, like having his grap be throwing Cappy (which would make it long range) and grabbing would have you capture the opponent, making them hit themself, and then punch yourself out of their body. This idea was brought up by Gamexplain before the E3 direct. Peach could also have Tiara, having the grap act like Mario’s, throwing out Tiara & capturing the opponent (which would mean Daisy probably wouldn’t have that), her side taunt including her, and at least 2 Odyssey-themed alts.

I got really sad when I got the game, played wolf, and realized how much they had changed him from brawl they made him so much less unique nair, bair, forward smash, dash attack, jab 3, side taunt, down taunt, neutral animation None of these things are as unique looking or functioning than they were in brawl He was completely his own character in brawl with a personality that was in your face, brawl wolf's moveset and lines said "i'm a crazy, cocky, dangerous animal and i want to hurt you" he doesn't really stick out like that in ultimate I still play him though

Mario should have Cappy as a down special. You can tap and hold down b to use Cappy as an attack, but if you just tap down b, Cappy becomes a command grab. How it would work is that if Cappy grabs the opponent, you poses the opponent, and can do all of the opponents attacks. Strategies for this could be to poses the opponent and use their attacks in a fight(which would be good for team attack team battles) or if it's a 1 v 1, you could forcefully run them off stage, or inflict self damage. However, the opponent can break out of it by mashing like Kirby's inhale or Puff's sing, and the higher percentage you are, the harder it is to do so. I also think you shouldn't be able to use it over and over again, so I think the command grab part of the move could recharge over time, and you can see that it's ready if Cappy's eyes appear and stay on his hat. You could probably also use Cappy as a tether recovery regardless if the command grab is charged or not(think of posessing the poles in Odesey).

I truly do love the Mii Fighters (though it really irks me you can't use em in classic mod) but I'd love to see them get a more loyal representation outside of being the customizable character (which to be fair really fits with the general idea of Miis). Nearly everyone has played a Wii series title, and they have tons to pull from: Balls, Bats, Bows, even Boxing, the list is huge. The alts could be a bunch of established Miis from across the games, like Matt, the boxing champion, and Ryan, basically the sandbag of Wii Sports Resort. How about all the clothing options from Tomodachi Life? There could even be a slot for your own user Mii or other one on the system, to keep the customizable aspect there. And it's not all about sports either, Miis have a few other games to call their own as well, such as Find Mii and Miitopia, where they can utilize swords and spells. All in all I feel like Miis are a unique and creative addition to the Smash roster but lack a lot in the moveset loyalty department. If you separated the moveset from the face there would be no telling it was a fighter meant to be the Miis

I believe he is fine, a way he could be changed is, he does his normal up-b, but then he pulls out his glider, and *MAYBE* he could have Daruks protection as his shield... but what if Daruk joins smash? : D, also, the parry animation, yes, completely agree, that would be cool. I think the only taunt that needs to go, is the down taunt, I don't think it fits Botw Link, maybe it could be him biting into an apple, like Young Link drinking his milk, or maybe it could be the animation for when you get Mipha's grace with Mipha floating around him, but then again, if Mipha joins, that would be s little weird. (MIPHA IN SMASH, PLEASE!) I don't think much needs to be changed though, I think he needs to stay consistent, to me, choosing a Link, is less about choosing a fighting style, and more about choosing who represents what game you love, for me, it's BotW

There are a handful of characters I would like to see be tweaked or reworked like Inkling who could focus more on stage control like in splatoon or Luigi being less weird and more Luigi. I also wanna Dr. Mario with a heavy combo focus that is super reliant on your rage and the opponents percent. I think designing the character like this would sort of emulate setting up chains in Dr. Mario.

I suggest a revamp of certain Zelda characters' smash bros movesets. First things first, an idea for distinguishing young link from toon and regular while also calling back to majora's mask - similar to Pokemon trainer, YLs down b switches him between 4 forms: normal link, Deku Link, Goron Link, and Zora Link. Normal YL would retain his moveset, sans bombs. Goron link's up b would be the ground pound (similar to dedede's) side b would be the roll (begins in non spiked mode, can't roll off ledges but less damage, after a few seconds becomes spiked, more damage but will roll off ledges very quickly, can segue into his up b) neut b would be powder keg (similar to bombs, but rolls forward), meanwhile Zora link would have an upwards dolphin leap up b (similar to Corrin's, water appears around him), neut B would be Zora boomerangs (slightly weaker than YL's regular 'rangs, but will return to him always and can strike multiple enemies), side b would be his underwater dash attack (can be tilted, similar to fox and falcos' up b's except sideways, not set on this move, open to suggestions), and finally Deku link would have his flower jump as an up b (floats down like peach, on earthy surfaces flower would look normal, on artificial ones, it would appear like in Majora's boss room, and if in midair, a platform like in the Deku playground would appear), side b would be his spin attack (like DK or Incineroar), and neut b would be his bubble (curves upwards). The final smash for all of them would be the same: fierce deity link (I mean, the triforce slash has no basis, I don't get why fierce deity isn't incorporated at the very least). Toon link could then be reverted to his SSB4 form to fill the niche of a faster but weaker link left open by YL, with a few minor tweaks. First things first, his up b would be the hurricane spin. In the air, it doesn't change, but on the ground, it allows toon link to move side to side during the duration (lasts longer, but if he doesn't hit an enemy, he will be dizzy for a brief moment). His grab could be altered to the grappling hook, to further distinguish from YL, but that's not as important. His final smash would be taken from phantom hourglass: the time freeze from the bellum boss fight. A figure eight appears onscreen and everyone freezes except toon link. Alternatively, he drives across the screen on the spirit train, or summons the ballad of gales to lift his opponents up off the screen. Now, Sheik is fun to play as, but she's just kinda generic and doesn't include any references to the series. Well, her up b works fine, since it hearkens back to the Deku nut teleportation in OoT, but the other moves could easily use a revamp. First off, her neut b could be cryonis (creates a platform in front of sheik that doubles as a barrier, any enemies it hits get launched upwards, can be broken, causing ice crystals with minor damage), her down b could be stasis (could work two different ways, either as a counter that freezes opponents or as a short range move that lasts only a small amount of time, and has a long recharge), and her side b could be magnesis (she summons one of several metal objects, which she can swing around slowly as long as she holds b, but she is vulnerable). Her smash attacks could utilize guardian or sheikah weaponry, and her final smash could have her summon the divine beasts. Finally, Ganondorf. He's always bugged me, because he has sooooo much potential, but he's basically a purple captain falcon. Instead, I propose that, first of all, instead of the tech demo sword, he should use the sword of the sages, with his down smash utilizing his dual blades from WW. His Side b could consist of him summoning lightning with Ghirahim (sword version) and launching a beam. It could be the slowest release animation for a projectile in the game, but compensate with damage. His neut b could be an older move, which is to say the Fire keese he summons in ALttP. They could swarm in a damaging circle around him, a la megaman's leaf shield, and upon executing the move a second time, disperse outwards in all directions (only four bats with small hit boxes, so easy to avoid though), while his down B could reference his OoT incarnation, in which he launches a slow moving projectile forward. Other players can hit it back, increasing speed and damage, to which Ganondorf can use his down b to reflect I again, and so on, the speed, damage, and launch power increasing each time. While the ball is in okay, he can use his cape to reflect other projectiles. The ball will remain until it hits something or goes off the stage. He could nail it with his side b to give it a speed boost and electric effect, or with his neut b to give it a fire effect. his up b is tough, but could reference TP, particularly the move where he vaults over link's head (as a recovery, it would essentially just be an extra jump, but when done in front of an enemy, he leaps behind them and slashes heavily with the sword of the sages). Alternatively, it could reference calamity Ganon, having him temporarily assume a smaller version of his wraith pig form (the one that hangs out around hyrule castle in BotW) and fly upwards. His final smash is fine as is though. On W this would ruin the characters' current play styles (excepting the links), so this list is mainly for the sake of accuracy and shaking things up.

I think that Link could’ve used the champions abilities REALLY well, like his U-Special could be a Revali’s Gale and a Glider, while his D-Special could be either be Mipha’s Grace (Recovers 25 HP after 5 seconds of using it, he can’t move while using it) or Daruk’s Protection (Basically a 3 Use Reflector that recovers it’s uses after 5 seconds of not being used), the one that isn’t D-Special would become N-Special, and S-Special would be Urbosa’s Fury (a spin Attack similar to (Current) grounded U-Special, but it only charges up, and would have this big hit box dealing about 10 DMG, it’d stun the opponent for a sec when they are hit before flinging them with weak knock back)

Small gripe but I think doctor mario should've had a different ultimate, where players are forced into a very quick round of Dr mario, who drops extremely fast pills of random colours down onto players from the sky. Several viruses also spawn, matching the colours and curing the viruses correctly would do collateral damage to all fighters, even though final smashes arent competitive this would allow for a risk vs reward scenario, do you risk trying to match up viruses at really fast speeds to get a huge dmg bonus or just take what you can get and chip away at the enemies.

I'm pretty sure they wanted to make this link a fusion between TP link and BotW link. Replace the gale boomarange with a basic one, give him a normal grab, remote bombs, etc while keeping him generally the same. Also he does use his glider as his intro so theres that. I feel like they wanted link to still feel like Link, with many more changes they wouldnt have the same character, they'd basically have a completely new character, which is same/similar to others lile Zelda and Ganondorf, who both had updates but are still the same (but better). Plus the remote bombs basically feel more like cube bombs as they barely move around due to the nature of smash, with little hills. Also some stuff would be annoying like if Urbosa's fury was in and it stunned foes or something. I'd be funny if the revival animation was Mipha's grace tho.

Personally, I think the main Link in smash should have the original move set that he’s been using (normal bombs, normal boomerang, hookshot , etc.) and use the classic design from games like a link between worlds, and botw link should be his own character with a completely revamped move set. My idea would give him the bow and arrow physics from ultimate, revali’s gale for an up special, remote bombs, Urbosa’s fury for the down smash, shield parry for the side special, ancient arrow final smash, Daruk’s protection for the shield, magnesis and stasis combo for the grab, and a mechanic that allows the master sword to temporarily run out, forcing Link to use some other sword (probably the ancient sword). His costumes would be different costumes from the game, including a full hylian set, climbing gear, ancient set, and one with no armor at all.

I always wished they gave Ganon a new moveset and added Black Shadow to the game with Ganon's old moveset. It makes a lot more sense for F-Zero's main antagonist to be a heavy Captain Falcon and it would help give Ganon a fitting moveset without alienating players who liked how he used to play.

I wish they used Hyrule Warriors characters instead of taking Link Zelda and Ganon all from different games. Link would still be recognizable, Zelda could fight with her rapier + various magic and Ganon can be a unique dual-wielding sword daddy.

I agree with you about most of this, but I think they should keep the regular, non special attacks. I really didn't like the attack animations in BOTW, aside from maybe the spears.

Sonic is STILL using recycled moves and animations, with 50 spins and two specials that are near incidental. Ganon can be wildly different from his first iteration but Sonic? Nah, made your bed now lay in it.

I definitely think link could have had a cooler design, but as I've mained him since 64 I think the small changes the tweaked I'm into a high/top tier character are well deserved, even if they aren't drastic.

As a Young Link main, I feel like they really should have based him off his Majora's Mask design. Have his Side B be the mirror shield where it works like Mario's Cape. Have his final smash be him becoming Fierce Deity Link and slicing the everlasting hell out of his enemy.

I mean it is a fighting game, people don’t like when their favorite characters move sets get changed. And while I’d definitely be open to more new updated move sets in the future, I’m glad they stayed mostly the same for ultimate. More than any other smash game ultimate celebrates the history of these characters and the history of smash brothers, so while they aren’t super modern, I do still think they represent the characters and are iconic

Even though I am quite happy they made Ganon much better in this game and gave him sword-based Smash Attacks (although they just reused Ike and Cloud Smash Attacks), I still think they could have went a step further and reworked the vast majority of his moves.

I feel like kirby is one of the most deserving characters for a redesign. His current moveset uses so few of his copy abilities despite the insane potential for a unique and varied moveset

Luigi could be more based off of the Luigi's Mansion games, having his grab changed was cool but I whish they did more, it would change him even more from Mario and give more proof that he is not just a green Mario

Jigglypuff and Incineroar, They lack projectiles of any kind and Incineroar does not have a real fire type move. Also nice mother 3 music at the end.
