Brandon, I worked @ OMC 30 years , the desiginer missed the cam by .100 I corrected , 2 years later , 6/8 hp black plastic cam , stop would not go far enough , yes do check your timing. Tom W

Interesting. "stop would not go far enough" Do you mean it hits the 'nob' at the intake manifold too soon? The retainer not traveling full distance?

Yes the Black cam plastic , could be adjusted for WOT, but the engine did not get enough spark to Plane a boat with 2 people in a boat , on the 8 hp Johnson/ Evinrude I had put on Dyno it went up to 9.25 HP but was corrected to 8 hp the draftsman missed it for several years

Thanks Brandon very helpful I have the 8hp in need of a tune-up

Brandon’s the man. I sent the email earlier and he posted hours later. I get the sync with the roller and cam and carb open at the right second. I guess I should have asked what was “this old outboard” doin with a test light on that 6 hp in his last video? The 6 looks the same as the 8 I’m working on.

Well sure, that engine had a pointer! I just watched it; he was saying how good it sounded and how well it ran. I think him and I were listening to a different engine...

Is the cam roller supposed to line up with the two lines at the lowest throttle position? Or is that the start position?

Excellent explanation. Thanks.

It doesn't have a timing mark on it if it has the keyway in it the keyway is the timing

Ok I'm gona WAY Over Think this, I've got the timming throttle synchronization, and settings on points as a given factor, but coming form a time when on autos all we had was points, the process of setting points were to dwell them in with a dwell meter while running thus getting them at the optimal gap, and for those who didn't have the dwell meter we would use a multi meter or a test light on the points to find the exact time they broke open (not running) generating the spark in relationship to where the piston was in the stroke, IE: top dead center or an amount of degrees before or after TDC determined by markings or a dial indicator and some math to find the amount of degrees the piston needed to be down in the hole either before or after TDC. Yes it's probably way over complicating everything but with a little ingenuity I pretty sure it would work for a more precise timming even on the ones with timming marks. But like I said I'm probably way over thinking. Great Video Though

When Gmail lunched publicly, it was "invite only" and when that happened, it already had tens of thousands of users. My buddy got one on the first day, securing lucky@gmail - then forgot the password shortly later.

Throttle timing AKA let me diy tune up this engine to max power by screwing the cam follower adjustment screw as far as it goes. ...AKA lets see how much a small old 2 stroke can gulp up gasoline at low to mid throttle
@BrandonsGarage Жыл бұрын
Thats so true!! Most of the engine I get are DIY projects that the prior owner gave up on. 92.7% of them have this exact thing. Its funny how common it is. Sometimes, the original screw is removed and replace with a longer one, or the roller arm is broken as throttling up over extended the arm and snaped it.
@-Viceroy- Жыл бұрын
They see the roller not making any contact in low throttle so the obvious conclusion is to adjust it. ....then the master of DIY starts to tinker with the low throttle needle because low revs are not on spot anymore -> screw the needle in and now we have too lean idle so we have to klonk the gear on with way too high revs.

@@-Viceroy- master of DIY then concludes it must be the fuel pump. "For sale, 1971 9.9 HP Eveinrude, just needs fuel pump, easy fix. No low-ballers I know what I got. Asking $850 Firm OBO"
