Technically, you can get addicted to anything. That doesn't mean the substance in and of itself is addictive in a physical way, with the cravings and the withdrawal that that suggests. Marijuana is addictive in the same way things like video games can be addictive. It doesn't cause a physical chemical dependency, but the feelings when doing it are pleasurable to some people, so they want to keep doing it to get that same feeling again.

It’s kind of sad now, thinking about The Protector. His general origin is that he became a superhero to help stop people like his cousin from doing drugs, but then in the recent maxi-series Heroes In Crisis writer Tom King decided “wouldn’t it be ironic if he was an addict himself?” And so Protector was revealed to be a pain killer addict...and then killed off by Wally West at the end of the first issue.

@AbjectPermanence7 жыл бұрын
People don't think much of it, but caffeine is the most widely used recreational drug in the world. We allow children to consume it without concern, and it's common practice in many working environments for one's employer to freely distribute caffeine to its employees. Many schools sell caffeine to their students too. But it's an addictive psychoactive stimulant that can even kill a person if one overdoses. Sure, you probably won't die from a single cup of coffee everyday, but it's still good to remember that people DO use it to extremes and people DO die from it. Not saying it should be illegal, but we should be mindful of the way we all think about these drugs.

That comic seems to have had a rather confused message. Assuming that it was somewhat representative of the mainstream thought of the time, it is not too much of a surprise that the public became to apathetic to drugs. The problem with drugs is not the collateral effects. It is the main effects and the fact that they are external agents beyond any self-calibration from the body's systems. Yet the way Protector and others talk in that comic, you would think that all would be fine in the world if only they could make drugs with less collateral effects...

I know because I was on it in steadily increasing doses from my initial diagnosis of ADHD (along with autism and an anxiety disorder) when I was Fiery Rainbow Dog, age 11 until age 17 when I felt like it wasn't doing anything for me and that I didn't really need it anymore anyway.

Is it just me, or are Linkara's jokes much more fast-paced and punchy this episode? Great show buddy!

Speaking as someone who does smoke weed, the addiction you can get to it is incredibly rare and it's based less on a dependancy to the drug and more becoming dependant on the feeling of level headedness and calm.

I was happily watching thinking "this is a pretty good episode...." Then the after-credits scene happened and things got AWESOME.
