What really impresses me about this movie is how much they're able to fit in such a short runtime. They're able to give every character moments to shine, there's great interactions between the characters, they build interesting relationships, the dialogue is great, the action is great, the plot is good, it's paced very well, and they fit it all in just 60 minutes with almost nothing feeling rushed or underdeveloped. I think the only two flaws are the Joker redesign and Lois and Bruce's romance being too convenient and fast.
@carlrood44577 жыл бұрын
It helps that by this point the characters are "fully formed". The character development only needs to be small things like learning to mesh their styles. Neither is going to alter who they are or how they do things, but can realize their pre-judgements weren't entirely correct. Note how neither doubts the other is a hero.

Yep and despite their differences there's no stupid Batman fights Superman plot, I hate it when writers think that Bats and Supes need to be enemies, in the comics despite their differences they were friends, it was Frank Miller's fault for starting all this nonsense in the first place. Also no dark and brooding Superman, I hate it when writers do that, Superman is meant to be an ideal archetypal hero character, I mean he's the first big American Superhero, sure there are moments where he struggles but if you're writing him well then he doesn't act like Snyder's Superman.

Is Henry Cavil actually loves Superman, Just like how he loved The Witcher when he acted as Geralt. But the problem with both, Is Cavil was sat with horrible, horrible directors who only loved the bad stuff It seemed (Frank Millers way of Writing Superman besides most of 1/2 of that Superman Mini-Series Linkara covered), or writers who actively hated the source material.

I did like that, while supes and bats clearly didn't really approve of the other's methodology, each still knew pretty much from the get-go that they were essentially working on the same side and definitely had the same goals. they might have started as antagonistic towards each other, but they still act enough like grown-ups to share and pool information and help each other out to mutual benefit. and I think thats the crucial difference between this and the scowl-fest that was BvS (hey, it was only Linkara who said he wasn't going to directly compare the two!)

I think the problem with Harley's classic costume is that it just doesn't look good in a realistic style. In the DCAU style, it looks cute, colorful, with just a decent amount of sex appeal, but at the same time, has plenty enough character to make it almost an after-thought. But, whenever I see the costume in a more realistic style (namely in cosplays, or most recently in the Arkham Knight DLC), it just looks like some weird S&M fetish thing, no matter how spot-on the actual costume may be. Granted, similar things can be said about the more gothic lolita look of the other Arkham games or the short-shorts, punk biker chick style of Suicide Squad, but, well... Pick your poison, I guess :P Also - just a personal observation; may just be a "me" thing - the way the harlequin mask hugs the face tends to make a real person's cheek bones more prominent, giving them a more gaunt and creepy look as opposed Harley's trademark youthful, peppy adorableness. Less "crazy clown girl", more "porcelain doll gone mad".
@Mister-Thirteen7 жыл бұрын
Except the costumes used by every version of Spiderman on film and more recently Deadpool are almost the same in terms of visual elements. The original could work but they would need to spend more money on it then WB is willing to cash out for what they view as a secondary character's appearance.
@XshadOtakuX7 жыл бұрын
But Spidey's and Deadpool's outfits are covered in distracting elements (Spidey's web patterns and Deadpool's gear) that add to the overall appearance. Not to mention, their masks are designed to cover their entire face, and include exaggerated designs around their eyes to draw focus towards that particular area. If they were running around in just solid red and black/blue spandex with most of their faces uncovered, then yeah, it'd look pretty weird. ESPECIALLY if they were doing it wearing white makeup and black lipstick (X~X)

i actually like the Arkham Series costumes and i think that if Harley would have the standard animation costume i'd be disapointed since the whole Arkham series was a build around the Batman license and that step actually allowed Rocksteady to re-imagine all the characters for their spinoff universe to give it it's own touch, on the other side we still had Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamil as fanservice in the same time as lead VA even in that Arkham Knight where the Joker in that universe was long gone ... um spoilers ? kinda ? sorta ? yeah i spoilered the end of Arkham City there ._. so imo the point that Harley Quinn is not a mirror image of a an actual harleyquinn doesn't bother me at all, the same as Batman (who doesn't look like Man-Bat for that matter, a form i'd rather see for a beeing named Batman ) or the Joker since he aswell isn't sporting a jester outfit like h´the depiction on playing cards suggests :D

okay on that we can agree :D i wonder if you've played the 3 games (yeah i don't count Arkham Origin since it wasn't made by Rocksteady and that shows in some details tbh, it felt compared to the other Arkham Games like that Miller Batman .. something is off until someone points the finger right at it :D ) so that is maybe why i don't mind that change ... or because that is some Jeanette Vormann/Hot Topic stuff i actually like, kinda a sucker for that visually anyway =P hm that Suiciode Squad imo is another stand alone incedent, since that Joker isn't the normal Joker it's more like Jason Todd transformed into him, that J branded on the face is a dead giveaway though, so in that Suicide Squad universe is actually alot of assumed and unknown history and backstory which can be helpfull for sequels and preques if they decide to go for .. so that outfit is also non canon, just a an iteration, i liked it but honestly it looked to clean imo in comparison to the Arkham stuff which in my perception was a layer of the chaotic frantic choices Harley made up until that point ... but maybe i read to much into that design asthetics :D
@darkhero-30977 жыл бұрын
qu4dq0r3 ....No, just no. Joker in that movie isn't fucking Jason Todd transformed or shit like that. That theory was just something someone made because they hated how Joker looked. That theory is dead in the water. It is fully confirmed that the Suicide Squad Joker is the real Joker.

You're not far off when it comes to Bats & Supes getting the idea about swapping costumes. I've seen it done to great effect in Lego Batman: DC Heroes Unite. The two swap costumes before the final act of the film since they knew that Lex & Joker would use traps that would be effective against them (Batman would've been crushed & Superman would've gotten a full-on lethal blast of Kryptonite if they hadn't!) And since this was *LEGO*, all they did to switch costumes was swap their own heads around! Adding an extra bit of funny to that scene!

I liked BvS, but concede there are some big flaws. Other than the whole killing thing, I actually really like Affleck as Batman and Bruce Wayne. It has by far the best live action Batman fight scene. However, this is far superior. Kevin Conroy is really the best Batman actor. I really wish a live action Batman actor would take lessons from a voice actor on changing registers. Conroy's Bruce and Batman are distinct without either sounding fake or forced. It helps that the characters are on equal footing and while their styles don't mesh right away, they're never really antagonists. Heck, Batman comes to Metropolis to save Superman's life. It really shows why this is comics' longest running bromance. I've noticed over the years that Linkara and I hold similar views to how we prefer our heroes portrayed. This movie is the perfect example. They get past their differences fairly quickly and concentrate on the job. They find their similarities far outweigh their differences. Bruce sees he can't intimidate Clark and Clark sees that Bruce doesn't see him as the living emodiment of heroism. It's why their friendship works. They can relax because they don't take each other's caped identity too seriously. Each goes a little far in one direction or the other with their civilian and caped ids. With each other, they're closer to the middle. We even see things like Superman thinking strategically which guys like Frank Miller think he's incapable of. He's not going to walk into a kryptonite trap without forethought and he was the one to come up with the idea of using the acid on the kryptonite. This shows why something like "JLA: Act of God" is so bad. There's no reason to tear one down to make the other seem great. Both are great historic characters that can shine equally well together as they do separately. This should be required viewing for anyone writing a story with the two and DC should really stop allowing writers to trash one at the other's expense.

I'd have less of a problem with this movie if Batman's respect for Superman was more apparent. They're very different people, they're gonna argue over this, that, and the other, but at the end of the day, they're supposed to be best friends with nothing but respect for each other. One of my favorite moments from Batman: TAS is when Bruce is trapped in a dream world where he lives in a perfect Gotham City, which includes a Batman that ISN'T him which frees him up to be Bruce Wayne, and this Batman is a lot more impressive than Bruce ever thought he himself was. There's a scene in the graphic novel "Justice" where Batman's talking with Supes, and he says "Is that the reason you do interviews and tell everyone that you can see through walls? Is that the reason you let everyone KNOW about you? When you do, Clark, you take the power out of the shadows. You steal away a criminal's safety in the dark. You make them afraid. And people say I'M the smart one." Batman pushes himself to be the best in everything, but that can only come out of knowing that you're NOT the best in everything. We need more media featuring a Batman who's AWARE of his shortcomings, and knows how to give respect where respect is due. All I see in this movie is the rise of the Bat-God. "F*** you and all the other heroes, I'm Batman!" -_- On the subject of the original Harley Quinn outfit, nobody sees how sexy it is for her to be wearing something so decidedly UN-sexy. Harley's relationship with the Joker (while unhealthy) is based on complete subservience. After she swiped the costume to bust Joker out of Arkham, he probably told her to keep wearing it, just to see how she'd react; and because he insists, she HAS to wear it. She HAS to do everything her Puddin' says, and nothing pleases her more than doing just that. It's not a supervillainess costume, it's a silly S&M suit!

Sure, people would now say that it is "less sexy" than the current iterations but she is wearing a tight unitard that shows off her figure. I´ll take that over hot pants and a ripped shirt any day.

Even the titles show how this is superior to BVS. They are the world's finest team. They complement each other's strengths and weaknesses. No irritating "Martha" moments or convoluted reasons to commit murder, just a really great film.

World's Finest got a lot more character and story done in just over an hour compared to the almost three-hour snorefest of Dawn of Justice. There were a few scenes in DoJ that were cool but would have stood better as short films. In regards to Harley Quinn's outfits, the only one I truly hated was the first outfit she had in the new 52 with the stupid ruff, tiny cape and the far-too-small corset.

I do appreciate what Linkara is saying at the beginning. Even though he doesn't care for the DCEU movies (so far (here's hoping for Wonder Woman and Justice League)), he understands that there are real reasons for why people do like them, and not just because of the violence and "darkness" but because of how we chose to see and interpret the movies and how much more we see of their good aspects rather than their flaws. And all that said, while I like the Ultimate Edition of BvS, this movie is still way better in my opinion.

Alexander Sigstad I'm just gonna put this out there. DC shouldn't be dark and gritty. Only Batman is allowed to be Dark and Brooding. DC has freaking Superman and Wonder Woman for pete's sake, both inspiring Superheroes. Whenever they do something dark with characters who aren't dark, it terrible.

This movie is what actually introduced me to Batman and Superman... And also caused me to hate Batman for a few years, since I loved Superman, but all of my brothers loved Batman and hated Superman, so I had to be completely against them in this regard(little kid logic). I've obviously come around on liking Batman, but I still prefer Superman if I'm required to pick, though I prefer the two as a duo.
@kaihedgie7 жыл бұрын
My thoughts exactly. Actually, I liked Superman and Batman equally while I was growing up, but began to dislike Batman in recent years due to DC's insistence of overexposure to him and apparently being afraid of being unable to sell/produce a product that doesn't involve Batman, especially when it came to animated movies
@cartooncritic70457 жыл бұрын
Ben_ToaofFire Mine was the inverse effect, really. I've always preferred Batman to Superman, mainly because I found it more impressive that Batman could be as cool as he is without the superpowers, whereas my father loved Superman to the point of saying Batman's "not a real superhero" exactly because he has no superpowers. This caused me to actively resent Superman in the way you just described for several years until recently where I've finally grown to like Superman. Of course, Batman is still my favorite comic book character of all time, but it's not like I ignore every other superhero in existence either.
@sonicsaiyan077 жыл бұрын
Me, it was always about 50-50 for both Batman and Superman, but it slowly swung towards say...55-45 in Superman's favor. They were my intro to superheroes and were pretty much the ONLY ones I knew(Hell, there were times when I didn't watch Justice League because either Batman, Superman, or both weren't there...please don't shoot me, I love JL and JLU!!) But...they both dropped to the bottom f my 'hero scale' once I got into Spider-Man!
@jp38137 жыл бұрын
+kaihedgie Superman has nearly as much exposure as Batman. It's just that the former's films, video games, etc... tend to fail more often. Quite frankly, DC has always relied on those two characters in various media. Wonder Woman is the one who got screwed all these years given that she's part of that trinity.
@ChadBenjamin7 жыл бұрын
Superman doesn't have as much exposure as Batman. Superman's last video game was Superman Returns (2006), and his last animated movie was Superman: Unbound (2013). Batman's last video game was Batman: Arkham Knight (2015), and his last animated movie was Batman: The Killing Joke (2016). Batman also had a lego movie this year, and he's getting yet another animated movie in the summer. Superman on the other hand has no confirmed upcoming projects other the Justice League movie, where Batman will have the spotlight and Superman will only show up in the last 30 minutes.

10:00 And that is why I despised Batman v Superman even before its release. I've always hated the Batman vs Superman arguments because it brought out the worst aspect of fanboyism when I would just say "Who Cares? They are much more awesome working together than fighting each other!" Warner Brothers though plastered the BVS EVERYWHERE as a marketing ploy to draw in this kind of immature drooling fanboys to its seats. And then I actually saw the movie and found out the title was a lie, because there was barely any Batman v Superman in it. The movie could not commit to its own title! I was not fond of the concept Captain America: Civil War either, but at least it focused on its theme, explained character motivations and was able to make an exciting action sequence out of it. BvS is like "BATMAN VS SUPER MAN! Now enjoy this boring 6 minute fight with poorly explained motivations. Also, its entirely one-sided on Batman 's favor because we do not respect Superman and would rather jerk of to how awesome Batman is." Sorry for the rant, but makes it difficult to for me to enjoy great DCAU material like World Finest, when I have to be reminded that something spiteful and unpleasant like BvS exists forever.

As will be mentioned in the Timmverse shows a couple of times, Kryptonite radiation IS still radiation at higher levels than normal, so it DOES affect humans... it's just takes longer for it to become deadly. Lex Luthor ends up getting cancer from it because he kept a Kryptonite ring on his person.

I've never understood why so many Patreon sponsors ask for things that are so far outside the show's format, including things Linkara has stated he has little to no interest in. It's his passion for comics and superheroes that makes his reviews of things like ASBAR and Marville so awesome. Presumably they sponsor him because they enjoy the show and its regular format, so why request things so far out of scope? If I could afford to sponsor, I'd request something I at least think is a bad comic.

have you read this batman comic called "White knight"? It's not canon, but they explain Harley's sudden change of outfits as it not being Harleen quinzel at all, in that universe she left the joker out of fear right after he killed Jason Todd. The joker didn't even notice she left because a banker he forced as a hostage, who coincidently looks a lot like Charleen and even has a name that's an obscure pun to the harlequin, developed some kind of Stockholm syndrome and became his new harley, the suicide squad one.
