Funny thing is Mike actually wrote it, that 17 second scream wasn't a part of the song at all but Chester, not knowing how Mike had structured that part of the song, belted that scream out and Mike liked it so much he rewrote parts of the song to fit that scream in. Chester was in fact a legend!

Chester poured his heart and feelings into his lyrics. Yes, his wife and family DID try everything to help him. He talked about depression a lot, even in interviews. He was in therapy, etc. When he took his own life, his wife said he was in the best place he'd been in in a long time so it was even more of a devastation. He was on vacation with his family and flew back to do an interview and hung himself. I really feel that losing his best friend, Chris Cornell, was the final straw. Ironically, he took his life the same way that Chris did (and on what would've been Chris' birthday). Such a tremendous loss. I still sob while I'm screaming out all of his lyrics and head banging. I recommend From the Inside as well.

LP pulled me through my high school years. The reason they resonate with me (and I think a lot of people) is because the songs are completely relatable. When a person feels like they're at the brink, listening to them was a healthy way to release the feelings. Chester had a lot of demons and poured all his heart into his singing and the songwriting. Feeling like there was someone out there who could understand the pain is why I have always followed LP. Unfortunately, we weren't able to pay that back to Chester, but he will always be missed and loved.

I was obsessed with Linkin Park as a child. I would watch their Live in Texas dvd concert every day as a young teen and eventually learned how to play drums by learning their songs. I never dove into lyrics because my main focus was on how the music in general made me feel. It's damn near IMPOSSIBLE to listen to them now and it feels like something so important to my childhood was ripped away from me with constant reminders anytime a song comes on.. Chester had another good ten to fifteen years after this song. Likely this was one of the things letting him vent and stay strong. Everyone's crises are personal, but having suffered from depression for all of my adult life, I can tell you you need these outlets, even if, ultimately, in Chester's case, in Cornell's, in Cobain's, you lose your battle in the end. Their music is a testament to how powerfully they fought and the music's longevity is proof of their sheer strength.

I can confirm this. I suffer from bouts of depression for sure and spend most of my time alone. When I get low my thoughts can get dark pretty quickly, I’ve had moments where I’m just setting in my room crying and beating my self down about my past and my social anxiety and wondering why I have always felt a square peg trying to squeeze my self into a round hole. Luckily I have never been so down to where I have ever attempted suicide but those thoughts have definitely crossed my mind.

For me there is no escape, I go out with my pals but even in a crowd of people I feel on my own. I think its the same way with a lot of people who suffer from various forms of depression. There is a stupid tired trope that gets on my nerves about men commit suicide in such high numbers because they keep it to themselves and men don't cry and for the most part that's nonsense. Chester had extensive counseling a supportive and loving wife he shared with, he talked openly about depression publicly had very supportive fans and band members. But when it comes down to it when it comes to depression in the end you are on your own and it can wear you down, you can have suicidal thoughts a 10 thousand times and beat them, but it only takes that once and it's over. My point being no matter who I talk to about it or how much help I get, the real battle is between me and my depression, and its the same for most people regardless of gender or age. I visualise it as my back to the wall fight ducking and dodging the big dark mass of depression, I gotta duck dodge and counterpunch everyday, but I will never truly defeat it just survive it, and never give up. RIP Chester. Ps The only way your own depression can kill you is by making you do it, you are in control of that nobody else. The thing that keeps me alive is anger, anger at the depression not other people or myself but the depression.

There is a difference between feeling bad, and being chronical ill with mental illness. Chronical mental illness is real, like cancer, and its fatal. Even if the illness does not push to a point of ending it, the toll it takes on your body, the medicine, the isolation the stress, all these things takes years of your life. And that is the meaning of a terminal illness. If you die before than you should as a result of your illness its terminal. And Chronical illness is not a choice, its not something you can treat away by talking, and often medicine does not cure you, just as it is with cancer. The difference is however, with cancer and things like it, you get to live a life, have a family, happiness, you get to live your life before it ends. With chronical illness you might be alive for longer, you might not, but you never really get to be alive, every day is a fight, love and happiness is something you only see in others, and then get more hurt over not being able to have, even if people try to give it to you. Chronical mental illness is not only a terminal illness, it also take away your ability to be alive while you are living.

Chester had such an amazing voice and so much talent. "Cross Off" was the last released song that he collabed with Mark Morton. Mark is the lead guitarist for the Metal band Lamb of God. It's an amazing song. The video was shot after his death and the scenes of the band playing shows a mic and stand to pay their respects.

Mike wrote the majority of the songs for linkin park. Him and chester both. This particular song Chester did write himself. If you watch any of the making of any of their albums, even after mike or Chester writes a song the rest of the band will get together and if they dont like something in the song they will all change it together. So its s group process. But yes Chester was in a dark place when he wrote this song. He was in treatment so he was getting help he also had a wife and 6 kids who he lived very much. It's sad he was so talented and saved so many lives with his music and only if someone could of saved him. But mental health is a real challenge.

The song writing was mostly collaborative. All the guys would get together, chat about life and draw their inspiration from there. Chester had a very troubled life, his family, friends and band mates knew. He talked often about his struggles. It wasn't that no one was there for him, it's that no matter how supportive you are, you can't just cure someone. He once called his mind a bad neighbourhood that you shouldn't walk in alone. He fought it for so long and was so strong, it just caught up to him in the end. This song was incredibly cathartic for me. It's like someone was sitting with me in the darkness and understood.

Mike wrote a lot of the songs, but Chester did a perfect job conveying the feelings. Mike even stayed with Chester for a few days after hearing him sing this because Mike could hear the pain in his voice and didn't want Chester to do something bad. And actually, I listen to songs like this when I'm in a bad place, which is a lot. These kind of songs can actually help me. They force me to get out some of the bottled up emotions and make me cry. I connect with Chester on many levels, having gone through a lot of the same things, minus the rockstar fame of course. Another great but emotional song from them is Leave Out All The Rest.

I've personally dealt with alot of things and Linkin Park was a band I picked up when I was in Highschool years ago, I related to alot of the lyrics and I think hearing someone was going through the same made me feel less alone, I still struggle but I feel like music in general allows for that feeling of comfort that there are other people out there. A lot of people look at rock and metal music as just noise and screaming. But a lot of it is a lot deeper than that. A lot focuses on the struggles of life, like this. For a lot of people, songs like this are comfort. You guys have listened to enough NF to understand that music about sad things does not have to make you sad. When you're dealing with those emotions every day, things like this can be your release and give you the strength to keep on keeping on. Of course, it isn't for everyone, everyone's brain works differently, and for someone else, perhaps this could take them somewhere they don't want to be, but there are many more for who music like this is the reason we're still alive. Chester and LP are one of the major reasons I'm still breathing, and until the last day I'm on this planet, it will hurt that he's gone. We knew that he had struggled his whole life, maybe we didn't understand enough, but he made his decision, and maybe we could have saved him, or maybe not, I guess we'll never know, but we still have the music to remember him by.

Sometimes help doesn’t help if that makes sense. I’m one who fights with this days and weeks of depression yet we don’t know why. What's really sad is that a lot of his fans pushed him as well. After Meteora a lot of their fans talked very harsh trash about them. After his death, they came back to love them acting like they didn't have anything to do with his mental state. It's really disgusting but you won't ever find one of them feeling any sort of regret. Them and P!nk really helped me during my depression and anger from abuse at home at that time. I attempted suicide a couple times before I found their music and lyrics that helped me feel that others were feeling the same thing I was. It gave me a new outlet and release. I will forever be grateful to Chester and P!nk for that.

I think so many people who have been low love Chester and Linkin park because he was saying what we were all feeling. It was a release of the unspoken. Especially for kids growing up in that time. All of his lyrics were sad, and they all amped me up a d put a smile on my face. It is kind of odd isn't it?

About not listening to this song if you're in a bad place, of course it differs from person to person, but I know for a fact that for some people, listening to songs like this when you're in a bad place can help you tremendously, I know songs like this have helped me and several people I know an awful lot over the years, it reminds you that you are not the only one struggling

His lyrics helped a lot of people who didn't know how to express themselves and its nice knowing you're not the only one but even with his friends, family and fans there with him it was just to much for him I guess. Fame probably didn't help even though they have millions of fans there's a lot of pressure that comes with it and a lot of hate add that to the life he had growing up and his mental illness and you can start to understand why he did what he did

Everyone saw the signs he had help he was doing pretty well I believe but his close friend and another singer in a different band who was also struggling killed himself and he dealt with it for a bit but ultimately did it as well. Everyone knew we all got the signs everyone tried to help he got help but sometimes you just can't. The music was a sort of therapy for him, you ever just scream all your bad thoughts out as loud as possible? It's a release it stops the bottling up. Also this helped many people through rough patches me included, it gives a voice to the emotion, it makes you feel heard and it shows you ain't the only one

Lots of people say Linkin Park songs help them when they're depressed, so some people do just need the release. Their songs make my depression so much worse, though, so it's not good for everyone who has it. (My sister loved them as a teenager when they were just blowing up and always said that the release made her feel better, too.)

Doesn't make it less painful. But still. People think it's a game or some shit. This is reality. This is their outlet.

When this song was written when Chester was going through a lot of problems. He tried all different types of therapy but in the end none of them helped. This song was written 10 years before he died. Chester dealt with a lot of mental health issues that stem from his childhood. He was sexually abused as a child by an older boy who was also being sexually abused. Then on top of that he was bullied at school which led to him starting drugs to numb the mental pain he felt.
