It's 10 years between this album and Chester's passing. He battled mental unhealth/depression and addiction for the longest. Mike Shinoda is the only band member with writing credits though (he wrote most of LP's material). But he often drew inspiration from conversations with the band, so def could be influenced by Chester's struggles

4:58 This song came out in 2007. We lost Chester in 2017. I'm so thankful I saw them in 2001. Papercut was their very first single, and My December was never a single or played on the radio. Both are quite good. Crawling is probably still my favorite though. Even back then a lot of their songs had to deal with struggling with mental health.

Many don't know My December. But that song might be the most important song in my life. The summer I found it many years ago I heard it a lot. And I heard it in different times ever since. Part of the lyrics is used on one my tattoos with a double meaning to something else.

It has always felt like Chester knew where his journey would take him, he knew how things would end. He spent his entire career telling all of us about what was killing him inside, his demons, his pain and slowly over the years telling us all goodbye. Telling us to remember his journey, and to do our best to help someone else who is on a similar journey, and to change the ending, not only for them, but for him.

The more popular Linkin Park songs are from the first 2 albums, so if you want to keep digging and disco ver new LP songs that you dont know its easier to find them looking into the latest albums Living Things, The Haunting Party and One More Light. I could recommend: My December Shadow of The Day Lost in the Echo I'll be Gone Roads Untraveled Castle of Glass Until its Gone Final Masquerade Heavy Good Goodbye Sorry for Now One More Light By the way, the last album was totally a goodbye letter if you pay attention to the lyrics after.

He was so great at helping us who suffer with mental issues. He put his heart & soul into it. We knew he felt what he sang. It helped me to feel not so alone in a broken brain. Such a shame he lost the battle & it really is a battle. Unfortunately we are very good at hiding how we feel, even to those close to us. Especially when one’s mind is made up to do that! Most of us won’t reach out or talk to anyone about it. I’m blessed with people who reach in. But sometimes that doesn’t help either. No one is ever to blame in these situations, I know from many attempts, I’ve personally had, NO ONE could have stopped me. He had a loving family & amazing friends who knew & were there for him. R.I.P CHESTER, you are loved 💔 xx

To be honest most of Chester's songs were about suicide going all the way back to their first album. To me, this one feels like a farewell letter to his bandmates, telling them not to feel guilty about anything and remember the good times. The video itself mostly shows Chester isolating himself from his bandmates.

Yep, Linkin Park's lyrics hits us in a very unique way. Chester battled with depression for a long time, the final trigger for his at the very least unfortunate suicide was Chris Cornell's death, also by suicide. Chris was Chester's best friend and one of the most beautiful voices of rock and roll, according to Chester himself. Anyway, my suggestion today is some Audioslave and Soundgarden, both of them had Cornell as their voice. RIP Chris. RIP Chester. Gone, but never forgotten! 🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿

This has always been one of my favorite songs and listening to it again after everything that happened just gives it a whole new meaning. It's so weird how you put yourselves in the songs and think about your own situations. But then after tragedy, you start to realize how much it meant and reflected the actual artist themselves! Even though this came out well before what happened, it was written by someone who wanted to help others and needed help themselves. This just makes me want to hug everyone! Obviously, I love their hits but the whole Minutes to Midnight Album is my favorite. It was the first album of theirs I had and I got it as a Christmas present when it came out unexpectedly. I didn't even realize my parents knew I liked Linkin Park! My dad even let me play the album in the living room and we all listened to it and he enjoyed it a lot and he isn't typically into "my music". I love the whole album so much but I think my absolute favorites are Leave Out All The Rest, Shadow of the Day, What I've Done, and The Little Things Give You Away

So many of the lyrics have such a different effect today than they had back then. I remember that the news about Chester's death struck me while I was at work. And working in public, I had to ask a colleague to fill in for me as I had to retreat to a quiet corner away from everything for a while. Actually, I had already turned away from the genre at that point, but in the early 2000s the music of LP played a very big role in my life that I was overcome with a lot of emotions and memories at that moment. One of the worst days I can remember. Chester was truly special and reached and influenced so many people with his voice. @@briansgamesandanime yeah, Chesters passing influences ones interpretation of lots of LP songs easily. It's like "Waiting For the End", it's about an inevitable breakup and denial, but is commonly interpreted with Chesters dark destiny. Chester didn't write any of these three songs, he has no writing credits. Mike was the one who wrote most of LP's lyrics. He also said "Sorry For Now" was about said topic in some interview I saw on youtube back at the release. "Leave Out All the Rest" could possibly be based on conversation with Chester, cause Mike often drew insperation from band convos.

I’m not sure about this song in particular, but Mike and Chester wrote the lyrics together in general. For people who suffer from an actual mental illness. So we are not speaking common depression, moods or a rough time. But chronicle mental illness. Suicide is not a choice, but a result of an illness that follows you around every second. People would never say people who died from cancer was selfish for dying. And despite many get angry over using this comparison, it is there, its chronical mental illness is often fatal. if not by ones own hands, it shortens your life by many years, medicine, isolation, stress, pain and a ton of other things. the same chronical cancer or other illness can shorten your life. But people often ignore this. And if you end things on your own accord, it still an act of your illness, not a choice. Its hard for people who do not know how it is to live with to understand what it actually means, to have to battle yourself at every turn and hour of your life, every time you smile that person is trying just to get through. everything you wake up for, live for, is things that, that person can never have, and every time that person tries to get it because that is what life is about, it end up hurting more. The things others live for, is the things that kill people that suffer from chronicle mental illness. Ask yourself, if you had the choice to live 35 years, with love, family happiness. travel. good memories all of that, to then die because of an awful illness. Or to live for 35 years, or 60 years without ever really living at all. Being alive but without being able to live. Not having love because your illness takes it away. having the entire world against you because you suffer from something they do not understand. not being able to find love, happiness, get a family, or be happy and safe if you fight to get those things, but have those things tear you apart from the inside. If you know you know. And the choice is easy, having the gift of actual living for 35 years is far greater than being alive in a life you never got to live. Also for a song with Linkin Park you most likely do not know. This is my December. It's rather unknown. but to me it's one of the best songs.
