As someone who loves the new single and is giving the Emily era a chance, I don't see anything wrong with what you guys said. You didn't insult or condemn anyone. If you don't like the song, what can you do, you can't lie to yourself. Emily IS a controversial figure, that's objectively true. I'm giving her a chance because she apologized for the Danny stuff and because she hasn't confirmed nor denied CURRENTLY being a scientologist. But you shouldn't be forced to love the new direction or to love Emily if you don't. Good on you guys for being honest and keeping it real.

Thank you! We weren’t in any way shitting on Linkin Park or Emily with we said. It seems not everyone wants to actually listen to what we say though and just attack us for because we weren’t going crazy over what we heard. We’ll listen to the album when it comes out because we want to give them a chance but we will clearly need to keep our opinions to ourselves.

The cold hard truth is that Chester voluntarily left the world of the living. The others worked just as hard and have every right to continue with their careers, the band and all of their music. They earned their success. Linkin Park as a name has a certain weight, it doesn't make any sense to start fresh with a new (old) name. New Linkin Park 2.0 might lose some fans and in return probably gain new ones. The band is going to be fine.

During the livestream when Mike introduced all the band members, he introduced Emily then he said "And in the role of Chester Bennington is all of you". They aren't trying to replace him, they're starting something new. I'm all for it. I agree on the controversy points, though it's worth noting that Emily hasn't been seen around anyone from her previous ties for a decade. Mat - oh you were right, Chels - of course. that cracked me up. i disagree with you guys. love emily, love the song, think shes a great fit. wouldve hated having a chester sound a like come in instead. disagree with name change. i know its a different context but if bands changed their names based on losing a member we would have had van hagar and van cherone. its still the original founders of the band. i think this is going to bring in an entirely new set of fans, they'll dig in to the band's catalog and discover chester. that keeps chester's legacy alive and lets the band move forward. also allows fans that never saw the band live, a chance to do so. i saw a reactor have a complete emotions breakdown over the joy he felt when he/saw heard his favorite band playing his favorite song live for the first time in years. something he didn't think would ever happen again. I would suggest watching the 1 hour interview the band gave. might help some. anyway, completely understand your position and reasoning. mad respect.

4 people of LP are still in this band... Mike wrote almost all songs, they got all the rights in the world to continue as Linkin Park. I like Emily and Colin, they all are happy together, doing their jokes, the others are trying to honor their FRIEND. They were also friends after all and if Chester was known for something, it was to try to make everyone around him happy, no matter how miserable he felt. He is looking from above and is happy that they are together again, creative again and he would totally understand that they did not change the name.

The whole Scientology thing is weird but once you're in it's hard to get out. The thing with Scientology is she might not want to be a part of it. The church is known for going after people who leave and disown it by trying to destroy their lives. From looking at the lyrics from her other band she does seem to throw shade at them. That and the fact she cried more than a few times at the live show. It seems she more of a prisoner of Scientology than a follower.

@@MatandChelsReact You guys very much mentioned how the music "doesn't hit the same", because of her perceived ties to scientology. That was one of the main points by @oneshot_pacatt, that something she was born into somehow prevents her from being aware of/speaking about mental health issues. That's not a fair take, and most signs point to her distancing herself from the cult, instead of embracing it. I listened to the track without knowing a single thing about her and loved the song. Vocally she's a great fit, and this track sounds more like LP than anything they've done since Meteora. It is what it is I suppose.

To quote Chester, “We’d like to think that our music will always be bigger than any one of our individual personalities”. I think a lot of people watching this change are grieving. Denial. Anger. Etc. Though there’s a lot of acceptance, as people recognize that Linkin Park doesn’t have any singular sound. Look at The Hunting Party, Minutes to Midnight, Hybrid Theory, Living Things. None are truly the same. Many people, when faced with grief, get tidally locked in the era when the loss occurred. I think that’s happening a lot amongst their fans. Also, we aren’t entitled to the name of their band or what the band represents. Many don’t realize that they feel a sense of entitlement to those things. I saw the same reaction from my friend when my brother died - they were friends too. He had this period of pushing to find out what happened when answers weren’t available. Looking for closure and justification from life that didn’t come in the way he wanted. It’s okay to grieve however we do. Just think more people might wanna see more clearly what they’re doing and why they’re doing it so they might stand a chance to process the feelings, as opposed to getting lost in the echo, if you will. A quote from Mike about Lost in the Echo, “The idea of the song and the video at its core really has to do with finding issues in the baggage that is weighing you down and letting go of it.” …A process I hope everyone can go through. And understanding that letting go doesn’t mean making it go away. It’s just letting go so it isn’t smothered. It can still be there, but it can be there and be free.

Yeah, I agree with so much of what you guys have said. I was 16 when LP dropped their first music video. Liked them since day 1, but I became a hard-core fan as soon as I heard One Step Closer. Chester's voice and lyrics have gotten me through so much as a teenager and as an adult. Every Album from Hybrid Theory to One More Light has heavily influenced me and played a huge part in helping me deal with my own mental health issues. I gotta admit, I got emotional the first time watching this music video last week, being the first song to not feature Chester's vocals at all. All this being said, I am still open to giving Emily a chance. I'm not making my full decision on her until I get to hear the full From Zero album in November. Also, speaking on the Scientology stuff, I would agree if she joined with them and refused to cut ties, but that's not the case. Emily was BORN into Scientology, because of her parents belonging to it. I know very little about it, but I've seen her family would basically disown her if she even said anything negative about it publicly, so she's likely not even allowed to say publicly if she agrees with the practice or not, out of fear of losing her family. I believe she's LGBTQ, which is also against Scientology, so I think that means she's not really into it, other than her family ties, but I can't fully speak for her. Just sharing the little info I have. But otherwise, I get it. I can fully understand people being apprehensive with her being in the band and trying to carry on the Link Park name. Buy I do feel like people should at least attempt and wait to get full information and context before fully writing off the new lineup.

I literally spent entire days of watching reactions to The Emptiness Machine and you're the only ones who said that or gave constructive criticism to. What's shocking to me is that a majority of those reactors actually CRIED reacting to it, especially the Emily Armstrong part. I actually like the song, I think she has an amazing voice. I don't care if she's a Christian, Scientologist, or if she worships the Muffin Man or Tooth Fairy, religion should have nothing to do with how good or bad the person singing is, nor should it affect how others perceive the singing ability. It's like me saying all Christian singers sound a million times better than those that worship Satan. It just doesn't work that way and if you think the opposite, than your opinion means nothing to me. Sorry guys, the different band name thing is straight up goofy IMO. I actually think that is insulting to the guys that have been there since the beginning. Chester wasn't a founding member of the band, and the others have every right to continue on with their life work. Emily was born into Scientology, she can't control that. There is no evidence she is even active anymore, and if you know anything about Scientology, if she wants to publicly leave/disassociate it, she has to kiss her family and friends goodbye to do so. I don't see her doing that simply because internet haters want her to. I know plenty of Catholics and Jews that don't go to church anymore, and nobody is cancelling them for it.

There is no band in the world that world change the name by which they are known simply because a band member passed away or isn't part of the band anymore. Just the idea that they should have changed the name is extremely disrespectful towards the rest of the band members that worked extremely hard just like Chester to bring Linkin Park to life. That's a totally valid point of view and a very respectful opinion! Personally, I don't share it. Sometimes we, general fans of something, get too emotionally attached to something in its shape, form, and time, and we don't give it a chance to evolve, grow, or change. Happens with all things like franchises (e.g. Star Wars) and even music bands. The case of Linkin' Park however is different because Chester passed away, and there is no way to reverse that or replace him, and therefore the band had to get someone who could perform the old stuff close enough without replacing him, and different enough to create a new identity. Personally, I like the new song, and that doesn't mean I won't be critical, but I think that letting go of what it was, and embracing what it could be, is a better choice than hating something because it evolved (in this case, forcefully). Finally, the "name of the band" issue: Chester was the frontman, yes, and most likely the voice we remember the most, but there are several other members in the band too. Metallica had its bassist pass away after 4 years of the band formation, and 40 years later they still honor him but they moved on. I prefer that route rather than just dismembering the entire band.

I love this song and I think she is a perfect fit and I am excited about this new direction they are going in. I think Chester was great but I think he gets entirely too much credit. Majority of the lyrics were written by Mike. Chester was not even a original member so it makes no sense to change the name. Chester is gone and it's time to move on to something new with the band. It's already #1 in Germany and that's never happened to Lincoln Park before. Alot of people are feeling this.

Love y’all’s reviews. This one is obviously controversial, not your review but their decision. Personally I love the new song and new era for them. No one could replace Chester. His voice was one of a kind. He had the emotion, she brings a bit more of the anger side especially when you hear the live versions. I get almost a Lzzy Hale type sound from Emily. As far as her whole Scientology thing, do I agree with it? Absolutely not. But I’m not listening for her beliefs, I’m listening for the music. She’s probably dealing with a lot of shit being stuck in that cult since she was born into it. I’m happy for them moving on. I feel like she does Chester justice, especially in the live concert at the Kia Forum in LA, without being a replica of him. The old songs will always be there for us to listen to and I for one will never stop. But I still fully support them moving on and am excited to hear more new songs from them. And it’s nice seeing Mike actually seem happy again in the live shows

Changing the name makes no sense. When these guys tour, ppl are gonna want them to play the old songs. That's just fact. Eventually, they will have a catalogue full of newer material assuming they make more then one new album, but as of right now, of course they are going to have to play and sing the old songs and that's what the fans want (I know, because I was at the LA show and every one was hyped there). As far as the Scientology thing, all we know is that she is a 2nd gen Scientologist and was born into it. Its not clear how "into it she is" but based on her sexual orientation and material she has sang about in Dead Sara, it doesn't appear that she is a hardcore mbr. She cant come out and publicly say so without risk of losing all of her personal connections, and really, she doesnt owe us any kind of answers. She addressed the Danny Masterson thing and that is good enough for me.

I think they wanted to keep Linkin Park because it is still the rest of the band's band, they still want to perform the songs that have meaning to them. Watching the live performance, Mike looked soooo happy to be performing again and it made me happy and I loved hearing her do the old songs. She may not be the same power house as Chester but she can perform and maybe with time her voice will get even better. I think this first song they were trying to plan it out to be smart, have it sound like an old LP song for the familiarity and ease Emily into it rather than throwing her in everyones face out the gate. So yea, I think they're trying to be as mindful about the situation as they can be and their first album is called From Zero. Like Mike said during the audience when he was introducing the band members, "in the role of Chester Bennington, is all of you". Also imagine how now a new generation gets to grow up on a new LP.

I personally haven't seen any evidence that she ever believed in scientology (I might have missed it). But I think just because she was at a rally we shouldn't immediately assume she is or was a scientologist. She could have gotten mixed up in the wrong crowd, or been uneducated and unaware of what she was attending.. Idk, I haven't done research, but I'm going to hope that linkin park did their research and believe her to be innocent until proven guilty. And I think its entirely logical that she may be scared to say anything specifically about it because from what i understand you really don't want to mess with sceintology. That being said, I hope it is something that she can address, and that she is in fact not a shitty person aka a scientologist.

I respect your opinions. I may not necessarily agree with them, but I am also an older generation (I assume) and think about things a little differently. The problem I'm having is in MANY comments sections (not necessarily here) like Emily's, LP's, reaction channels, etc. people talking about "mental health awareness" and "suicide prevention" and in the VERY NEXT BREATH spewing nothing but hate and vitriol for this woman and the choices this band has made. It shows SO much hypocrisy. I feel like this is Mike and the rest of the band healing and getting some closure. Does anyone ACTUALLY think Chester would want them to stop? Would he not want a whole new generation to hear his songs and feel his feelings in a live situation with others? This is simply a catalyst for THAT, IMHO.✌🤘❤

I definitely understand what you guys are taking about and where you are coming from. Imagine how devastated the band must still be. To Me I think The Emptiness Machine is them asking for us the fan base. They know it’s difficult and different. But read those lyrics. It’s totally about the fear of going back into this and how we will receive it and constantly chasing approval even from your beloved fan base will keep you empty if you don’t find your own joy and purpose. Personally this band is very much still hurt and healing and they are looking to us while know that even full approval or rejection won’t bring their fulfillment. It was a lose lose. If they never made music again people would be asking for them. If they changed their name people would be mad. In the end doesn’t matter they are doing what feels right for them. I think you like all of us are still grieving the loss of Chester. You will realize ain’t nobody trying to replace. Hell Emily couldn’t even get through one of the old songs thinking about Chester. They need us now. And I’m here for them. They have given so much over the last 20 years be patient with them. Chester is immortal though all the records they’ve made over the last 20 years. He legacy will never be erased.

Linkin Park is not Chester Bennington. If we're supposed to take it that way, Mike started the band and it's his right to do with it as he sees fit. I think the argument "they should change their name" is reaaally weak, a ton of bands changed band members (Black Sabbath, ACDC, Dragonforce, Infant Annihilator etc etc) and nobody wanted them to rename the band. it's still the Linkin Park sound in its core (even if they changed their style quiet a bit on almost each album) and there are still 4 of the original members. whats the point of renaming a band then? sure its not Chester but should they really find someone who sounds exactly like him? of course you dont have to like the new sound or singer. personally I love Emily and yes I was obsessed with LP in the mid 2000s, they were my favorite band back then and introduced me to heavier music.

I personally feel this song is Linkin Park personified but with different vocals. I agree Chester can't be replaced, he's arguably one of the greatest vocalists ever and he was a huge deal to me too. From Xero is the album name to signify that this is a new section in the Linkin Park career and it does genuinely work because of the crazy different genres they've done through their career and a female vocalist was right way to go to avoid as much comparison. Listen I get it and it's fine if you don't follow them and stuff moving but I 100% will be, to me they're carrying the legacy of Chester in a respectful way, the band knows better than anyone else what is right for Chester and the band as whole and that's why I'm being very open to this and am very excites for this. It's the first time they've shown true happiness in 7 years for obvious reasons but the fact that this Means so much to them is enough for me

I think we as human beings owe it to each other to give everyone a chance. So many of us seem to have no tolerance for mistakes or imperfections of any kind. Everything has to be perfect, no one is allowed to screw up or be even remotely affiliated with anyone or anything controversial, even if the repercussions for severing said ties are extreme. I honestly feel sorry for Emily. Can you imagine being born into an insane religion you did not choose, discover that your friend whom you trusted is actually a rapist then be faced with extricating yourself from the controversies while the public jump to all sorts of unsubstantiated conclusions as they judge and destroy you for it? How must that feel? If Chester taught us anything in his life, it’s that we all suffer and struggle equally and we do so together, because suffering and struggle is part of being human. Is Emily Armstrong or any other human on this planet an exception to the rule? Is Emily’s suffering and struggle not valid? Does it not make her fit to sing and perform Chester’s songs? I think Mike and the rest of the band understand this and see Emily for who she really is. That’s why she was chosen. I think Chester would have chosen her as well.

Chester was human being just like rest of us, and like the rest of us when we lose someone we all mourn then we all move on , every single one of us move on , we all have to go back to work , we all go on , Chester was a human being that will always be missed so it’s not fair that this band is told NOT to move on but rest of us can move on, these guys mourned for 7 years , way longer than rest of us , all they are doing is keeping that legacy alive 🤷🏻‍♂️ Also I think it’s really weird that y’all already had your minds made up before reacting to this song , those are strong enough feelings to not even react to this , when I know I won’t like something from start to finish I won’t watch it, so weird 🤦🏻‍♂️

It's 2024 and apparently it's only now that people have managed to use their gray matter and realize the obvious. Any band that loses its main artist and eventually replaces him will not be the same band, and that's trivial. It's the same name, the same songs, but the band isn't the same, and that's a good thing. Bringing in someone who was nothing more than a Chester cover would just show that the band died along with him. It's not the Linkin Park of 20 years ago, and I thought something as simple as that would be easy to understand, but for some, simple is too complicated. It's a new band, a new Linkin Park, and that's great - on its own terms. The old songs will always be there for anyone to hear, and anyone who understands that a Linkin Park without Chester is a new Linkin Park and is fine with that - after all, there's no reason not to be - will enjoy the new songs to the full, and I think they're happy that they're back, and back in style.
