LYRICS I use the dead wood to make the fire rise The blood of innocence burning in the skies I filled my cup with the rising of the sea And poured it out in an ocean of debris Ooh, I'm swimming in the smoke Of bridges I have burned So don't apologize I'm losing what I don't deserve What I don't deserve We held our breathe when the clouds began to form But you were lost in the beating of the storm But in the end we were made to be apart In separate chambers of the human heart Ooh, I'm swimming in the smoke Of bridges I have burned So don't apologize I'm losing what I don't deserve It's in the blackened bones Of bridges I have burned So don't apologize I'm losing what I don't deserve What I don't deserve I'm swimming in the smoke Of bridges I have burned So don't apologize I'm losing what I don't deserve The blame is mine alone For bridges I have burned So don't apologize I'm losing what I don't deserve What I don't deserve What I don't deserve, ooh woah What I don't deserve I use the dead wood to make the fire rise The blood of innocence burning in the skies

I'll be honest, I never comment on KZbin videos simply because of how quickly people either take it way too personally and get butt hurt or start to rag on the person who posted the comment in the first place. However, as I was reading through the comments of this video, I found one that was posted 8 months ago that made me think about what we consider "good music." Back in 2011-2012, Linkin Park released this album with no regard for it being radio friendly. After its release, they were criticized not just by the media, but by their fans as well. They criticized Linkin Park for "selling out" and for doing something different from what everyone is used to them doing. They (LP) did something that everyone, at the time, was couldn't do. They created a story using strong lyrics and tones with each song building up to the next one, each with a new part of the tale to tell. Me personally, I've been a fan of LP ever since my cousin showed me the video for Bleed It Out somewhere in 07-08 (mind you, I was probably 9 or 10 at the time). I remember listening to this album when it came out and all the backlash that came with it. At the time, I didn't understand the lyrics, all I knew was that they meant something to me. A couple months ago, I bought the album again on my phone and actually listened to the lyrics, from start to end. No breaks, no pauses. Just one song after the other. Afterwards, I actually took the time to look up the speeches they use in some of the songs. I listened to the tale of the escalation of war with each song sharing the next part of the story, slowly coming to the climax that is the detonation of the atomic bomb in "The Catalyst" (I also realized that LP used this album as an answer to the criticism). Mind you, I didn't realize this stuff until after I read that comment. After that album, Linkin Park has deviated from what the media and society deem "appropriate music" and redefined themselves. Every album receives a fair amount of criticism, such as their recent album "One More Light." The thing most people don't think about music in general is why. Why do artists (music) create albums with strong themes that are deemed inappropriate? The answer is simple. So they can be different from the herd. And the obvious one: to express themselves. That's why they made this album. To not only redefine LP, but to separate from mainstream media. To those of you who took the time to read this, I commemorate you. At the time of me typing this it is Sunday, September 24, 2017. Feel free to leave your thoughts below, or don't. It's up to you really. I just wanted to share my thoughts given all the negative comments I've read.
@Poisonviol6 жыл бұрын
I think that a true fan understand that an artist changes through life, and that he (the artist) is not there to try and please anyone, he does what he does to express himself and hope someone can relate. who ever criticize this album or "minutes to midnight" or "one more light", just dosen't get it, and I dont think he can call himself a true fan. because damn, everything they do is so emotional and raw, how a true fan can criticize their feelings when they expressed in such amazing work?!
@TheOodoneOut446 жыл бұрын
I can relate, I started back in early high school at that time too. Found their first album that my older brother left behind when he first moved from home. The first two albums really helped me get through 8th grade to sophomore year, especially when going to new cities for the first time, like Denver and Chicago. But this one, I was a bit different, I already had some insight to the Manhattan Project due to my History buff Dad and History classes. In fact, months before this, we as a class trip, went to New Mexico and saw the replicas of Nukes that were used in WWII. Wish this came out then, would have been the best music for our class project as well. With Fallout being a smash back then as well, that just fueled this catalyst. Ever played New Vegas with this playing? Perfection. Anyways, LP has always been there for me. Though, I will be honest and say that after their 5th album, seemed to fray out into something that I wasn't and still not quite ready for. But by far, this one. Has always been the best to me. Love me a good Concept Album.

Τhank you for commenting that, you are a true fan my brother. Its sad how everyone criticizes artists for everything they do. At least now everyone sees how good and passionate were these guys (LP). I Never felt more associated with someone's music as I do with LP. Thank you❤

I've never really understood the message in the lyrics until I grow up and face it myself. The feeling that I keep disappointed everyone that I love. All of Linkin Park's songs always makes me feel related somehow. I always pick one of their songs to be my friend when I feel bad. It's like I have someone who really understand.
@ilhanaruto104 жыл бұрын
Have you heard of Oppenheimer and Manhattan project? I think it's deeply related. One of the Introsongs to this album, The Radiance, has a very dark tone to it because of Oppenheimer's Quote. This is obviously a sequel to that - the lyrics and video show ashes and dust and chaos - aftermath of an atomic bomb.

Dude, this song is about a nuclear war.
@Fenixias3 жыл бұрын
@@dexter2392 yeah pretty sure that's mostly what it's about, especially in the context of the whole album. But I also like to see it as a song about humanity destroying and consuming everything in general, ultimately by creating weapons of mass destruction. So yeah, it also kinda confuses me to see people here writing about things that I could never read in the lyrics of the song xD But of course that's kinda the beauty of art, isn't it? For every person, a piece of art gives a different message.
@Z.Chhakchhuak3 жыл бұрын
@@Fenixias yes you are right at some point.. But LP's lyrics is always about reaching out to ppl who needs some therapy, and people find solace in their songs and their lyrics.. He is not wrong about interpreting the part " Im swimming in the smoke of bridges i have burned so dont apologise im losing what i dont deserve" as some broken relationship that he might caued and feel bad.. Coz "burning bridges" is always used lyrically by other artists to talk about a broken relationship which could never be mended.. And im sure even LP wouldn't disagree to that intertretation.. This ATS is somewhat all about catastrophe but never solely for that purpose.. U can interpret in more than one side.. Putting in a very specific quotation and then twist it in way which could be interpreted in two ways.. Dats why i like Linkin Park hella great songwriting here and in all of their songs..We can see that clearly manifests in the songs of the album especially like iridescent and the messenger!!

You know, it gets harder everyday waking up to see how much my mother has changed, knowing i am failing her every moment.....and harder still because i have no one to share my grief with. This is in my opinion their best and deepest song. I feel like it adresses what you feel after letting everybody, or at least someone you care about down in a complete opposite way of "What I've Done". Instead of self-forgiveness we see self-disappointment. Right off the bat you hear "I use the dead wood to make a fire rise", after loosing it all you're trying to make something shine out of all that darkness. But what strikes me the most is the chorus: "I'm swimming in the smoke, of bridges I have burned", after destroying your own opportunities you find yourself trying to find yourself in the middle of nowhere, "So don't apologize, I'm loosing what I don't deserve", possibly mentioning the faith someone had in the poetic subject, or maybe himself. And to make my point even stronger: "The blame is mine alone, for bridges I have burned", he's "realising" the consequences of his mistakes, all the hearts he has broken, so he's the only one to blame. Because of this interpretation I relate to this song a whole lot. I know what it feels like to know that your unawareness and bad choices broke the heart of someone you really love.

Let them be mad and angry because maybe it would come to their heads to know that Linkin park wants to change a little I understand that because they don't want to keep on doing the same thing all time and besides they are the one who making the music, not the people. one thing i have noticed, everyone who listens to LP has been helped by them in overcoming depression...they helped me overcome my depression...when i lost my father at the age of 11, i found LP.....when i lost my closest friend, the closest person in my life, i found LP again. You know, it gets harder everyday waking up to see how much my mother has changed, knowing i am failing her every moment.....and harder still because i have no one to share my grief with. LP changed me, and before i could recover completely, Chester died. Pain demands to be felt, i guess.

Best album ever made! Linkin Park's master piece! I'm addicted to it for at least the past five years. All the lyrics are so genius, all the social comments are so on point, all the emotions are felt. I'm sorry most of the fans (me included) didn't recognized it when it was released, it was so ahead of its time!
@JaidevAshok10 жыл бұрын
IMO this song is heavily underrated. It personally happens to be my favourite song ever, from the album, and by Linkin Park. Normally, if you go ask a random LP listener, they'll rank it 4th or 5th on the album. A LOT of people I know, who kinda follow the band, haven't listened to THIS song. They're just missing pure beauty of music and meaning. You can't just skip this track. You can't just switch from this one. And you'll most likely repeat the song over, and over, and over... and relive all the beautiful moments again. ♫♪♫♪ _"The blame is mine alone, for bridges I have burned... So don't apologize, I'm losing what I don't deserve, what I don't deserve..."_ ♫♪♫♪

TOTALLY AGREED. A lot of people that are "fans" of LP only want to listen to their Hybrid Theory and Meteora stuff but after those albums they made songs like these which I absolutely love and I think it's brilliant. "I'm swimming in the smoke, of bridges I have burned, so don't apologize, I'm losing what I don't deserve" SUCH BRILLIANT LYRICS
@JaidevAshok10 жыл бұрын
***** Yeah, I honestly believe that the meaning in the lyrics has been put way better in here, as against a lot of their oldest songs. People just can't take mellow. And then arrives an album that just shouts and fills half of itself repeating the chorus over and over. Say hello to The Hunting Party.

I come here to express my sincere gratitude to Chester. He, the guy who was fighting with stress and depression for a long time, sang and wrote songs that helped many of us in the really hard times. I listen to this song again after 10-11 years passed since I first heard it. I get that back in that time I was just a fan, now I am listening this song, and words can not explain how these songs really relate to me now. Now, I get that Hybrid Theory age songs were written when all of members were really young and it shows how they dealt with life problems in a more distorted sound, open lyrics that show how they bounce back the difficulties in life. However, this album is purely about accepting oneself, being calm in the hard times and observing where the world goes in this temp. You can see how LP changed mentally, how their lyrics matured, how they see the world changed. I am now listening to this song not as a fan, but a person who really gets the idea, understands how Chester was dealing with life and how it was mirrored in lyrics and style. Hope you are all doing good daily in the life and these songs remind you that you are not alone there.

Ngl this song has a new meaning since my parents recent divorce. I'm reminded about my dad all throughout Chester's vocals and in Mike's vocals I'm reminded about my mother. I'm sad they got a divorce. Hopefully one day my parents can find happiness together again.😢
