these kinds of devices are interesting - and weird at the same time. I think we (HA enthusiasts) see the benefit in a dashboard, and something dedicated to the task makes some sense. Then, the idea of having a containerised install of HA along side a dashboard device makes some sense - it's a relatively small self contained unit with an inbuilt UPS (battery) could be enticing! But then - locked down instance, managed by them - fail ! I'm a little interested to understand what your initia review said, rather than the ending you gave - I guess the realisation of the further limitations reinforced the fact it isn't a polished general use device that would meet a lot of needs.
