Hi. Why home assistant doesn't have its own tablet like this one?
@smart_home_australia3 ай бұрын
Good question. Seems such a logical progression from the Green to built this into a tablet. Maybe that's on the cards and they are watching how this product goes before committing to such a device.

Thanks- very informative review. I was wondering if the LinknLink ISG requires a Zigbee controller like the Sonoff dongle; if it does can I use the ethernet connected SMLight SLZB-06P7?
@smart_home_australia4 ай бұрын
Yep it does require one, but it comes with one so you don't need to supply. That said, it you wanted to use a different one then that's also fine.

Thanks for the video... I am setting up mine... Just got stuck where i added Smartthings multi purpose sensor Zigbee in ISG but its not reflecting in HA. Any thoughts?
@smart_home_australia5 ай бұрын
Thats interesting, I used a Smartthings contact sensor when I tested the unit and it worked fine. Anything in the logs? If not then raise a ticket with LinknLink and let me know the ticket number and I'll see if I can push it through for you :)

Ive been playing for a few weeks now, I certainly have had some challenges but mostly as I'm new to HA. One glaring issue though is being the Core HA build it does not have "Addons" so there are a few addons I wanted to try and cant! Some good tips for me to try, but currently for some reason, ALL my Tuya devices have dropped from HA but still work in iSG. I have a lot of work ahead of me! looking forward to the HA update....due now to 2024.04

Hopefully I get a chance to make afew more videos about the iSG as I think it has great potential and LInknLink are committed to make this the success it should be.

@@smart_home_australia the other thing I have not worked out yet is in your intro you say we don't need Nabu Casa for HA cloud, however with this setup you cannot access your HA on your mobile app outside your wifi network. iSG you can see, but not HA. I want to know how to do this! 🙂
@smart_home_australia7 ай бұрын
I actually have not done a video on the many ways of connecting to your Home Assistant directly and not use Nabu Casa. Its not that hard but there are a few reasons for this, mainly that I want to continue to support Nabu Casa as that's the company that develops Home Assistant. But yes, possible and I might still put out a video on how to do this.

Just got one. I didn't realise you have to set up a new instance of HA. Not happy with that. Only has on fixing to hang on the wall as well. Back in the box it goes! JUNK!

Did you log a ticket with LinknLink? They are super responsive to tickets.

it would be interesting if it wasn't for the bespoke home assistant version it's not hard to immagine what will happen 2-3 years down the line when it will become no longer profitable to update their version i hope they will release a bridge to make tuya work locally with a officially supported istallation
@smart_home_australia7 ай бұрын
It's a good question Francesco, however, I suspect that the AI will also start to become more prevalent in Home Assistant and that the hardware will need to include an NPU to accommodate it. As such there will be a step change in the hardware requirements, hence a need to upgrade regardless. Tech has an "expiry date" far shorter than the physical hardware. As such I suspect LinknLink will be true to their word for many years to come and probably create a method to OTA and "convert" into hardware specific version very quickly to overcome this manual process.

@@smart_home_australia the founder of home assistant itself addressed the topic of IA in the last state of the open home and in his opinion if you want to use ai locally a single device is not a good solution instead it's better to use an AI box that you connect via integration so it far more easily manageable, less prone to error and issue and upgradable What you say about the probability of support might be true but for 199$ i need a commitment not wishful thinking Because for almost the same price i could buy an home assistant green with skyconnect (wich also support Nabu Casa) and a tablet That gives me access to update with more speed and certainty, an open hardware that i can reuse for other things if and when I decide to upgrade (let's not forget that regardless of one's opinion on the technology AI is and I suspect it always will be optional), and last but not least Official support and the peace of mind in knowing that my hardware will be a consideration in the development of home assistant and it's features The only real selling point that the ISG has is the tuya integration And all this without even considering that at least until now i didn't see any contributions from linknlink to home assistant (code or otherwise) even if they are using it as the core features of their products TLDR basically no real reason to support this device
@smart_home_australia7 ай бұрын
All good points. I seek confirmation as to the commitment for APK's, although I still believe they will create the automatic OTA APK generator to take them out of the mix. As to AI, watch this space, I alluded to it in the video, but LinknLink have some very innovative ideas about AI that would be a free option with iSG. Once confirmed I'll put out a video about this. Ultimately, I still believe in my roundup. Its a very innovative design that I am sure will be a great success. It's not for everyone, and for those that want to go the HA Green or VM route then this might not be the best option. But for those that are starting out it might be a great option, especially if they don't want the "box" sitting under the TV :) Time will tell.

BTW, great discussion, thanks for taking the time to contribute. I look forward to similar discussions. Hopefully I can get some time and stand up a Discord server or similar as a platform where the community can have opinions, discussions and find the answers to issues.

@@smart_home_australia absolutely if we are talking about market in general there're a lot of worse device one could buy my previous comment was from the prospective of a smart home enthusiast (I hate the term but i can't think of another name for someone who watches a 2 to 3 hours live discussion about protocols and future venues of the smart home concept) for this type of people i think this is an interesting concept but ultimately not really worth it if not for thinkering But if i had to choose between this and an echo show for example a thing this is way better from an hub and privacy prospective Regarding the discussion in general i think that sharing and listening to different opinions is one of the best possible use of the internet when it remains civil and respectful (rare I know but not impossible)
