I was actually surprised to see someone attempt this remake, especially considering the classic and extremely complexed hat arrangement, but your remake sounds spot on. 777-9311 was one of my favorite old school tracks, so I thank you for keeping the classics alive. Keep it coming.

I love the older drum machines. They had what was called nuance programming capability. if you hear drum machines today like MASCHINE the hi hats sound dead. Here the cymbals sound realistic. Love old school!
@X-1017 жыл бұрын
Cos it was early sampling technology, the hi hat starting point constantly shifts which is part of the charm of the lm-1 over other drum machines
@Meteotrance6 жыл бұрын
i think the problem is the way the sound guy record the drum, and some cymbal sound warmer and darker than other, as an acoustic drummer i prefer Paiste over Zildjan, the Paiste formula where massively used for Roland drum machine and maybe Linndrum, with close mic instead of just overhead mic.

That sounds to me exactly like the original. That being said, is this the same machine with a few variations used for that air Jam type sound in the songs Erotic City and sex shooter? I've always wondered how that sound was made.
@boycrockett7 жыл бұрын
I'd say yes. However, I'm only 99% sure. Susan Rogers (Prince's sound engineer back then) has mentioned in a lot of interviews that Prince only owned and used a Linn LM-1, and never used a LinnDrum, which was the successor to the LM-1. There are, however, 3-4 tracks by Prince that sound like a LinnDrum, like "Possessed", for example. But I think it's mostly the way he processed and tuned his LM-1. The sound you're referring to, I think, is the flanger-like effect he ran the cabasa through on Sex Shooter, or the tom-like sounds on Erotic City. He either used his favorite toy, the Pearl Syncussion SY-1 on them, or ran them through other effect pedals.
