Its a great tablet I've had no problems it does what I need just fine and as an oldschool gamer emulation device its actually pretty freaking good. I think his video is also odd cause a PC guy should have shared that you can use Google apps ya only need to set the device to accept 3rd party apps. The original fire wasn't HD and didn't have this option so why is he sharing the older Fire tablet complaints which are no longer a problem? Its like he looked up old complaints or is using conversations from fellow PC snobs that don't know things are better with this new 7hd fire tab. I always get the impression that this guy is talking down to people, like we're all peasants. He gives just enough info to say the device works but he wouldn't wipe his butt with it. Maybe he should get a shot gun and a box of news ones and use them for target practice just to really rub poor folks nose in his crap. For families with 5 kids can't afford $200 tablets for each kid, IMHO Amazon made it possible for even low income kids to have internet devices that's pretty dang cool.

I never had the warm light on my old kindle, but i do not use it on the ipad so I will probably not need it. I think the only thing I'll miss is the self-adjusting light, but this is so worth it!

I'm a tech nerd, love comparing specs down to the nitty gritty and doing everything possible to get another 5 FPS or shave a couple milliseconds off a monitor's response time but even I can appreciate these things for what they are. Sub $40 for a legitimately usable tablet, capable of streaming content, shopping online and answering email is a handy gadget to have around for a lot of people. At this price, you don't have to worry about kids cracking screens or leaving them in the car to cook. You can have them stashed at a second home or take them camping... The price itself is the biggest feature because it allows you to 'connect' at times you wouldn't with a more expensive device. Well done Amazon.

I got my mom a USED 2014 fire tablet 6 inch, the very first with Alexa(hold button down) She reads, Facebook and Tubi. Runs like a champ and even still gets updates. This was so antique it did not have sd card slot option, so stuck with 6 gig out of 8 space. This thing was thicker too, and more solidly built than a 7. It also had a special product identifying app called Firefly, which was on the phones but not sure it went anywhere else. Got that for 35.00. Awesome. We are a fire family. First started with the 3g black and white kindle keyboard, which I prefer to those much more expensive paper whites. Have had 7, 8, and 10 fire sticks and TV's and an second gen echo that still works fine. Just ordered a limited deal 24.99 refurbished fire 7. Cheapest thing I ever seen. Simple, functional, portable. I am no technophile and specs go over my head. Still, Amazon caters to those too with the 3 gig ram gaming suitable kindle fires. What a time to be alive. I have become quite keen on these portable systems. I have even made the qlink electronic benefit scepter 8 tablet hum by disabling almost all google stuff. Anyway simplicity is popular. And with virtually a garage sale price point, even malfunctions or failures are easily refunded and replaced. Things keep getting better too- magnetic charging, remote appliance control...it also, as an avid reader, did not stop printed books. There is audio, digital, more ways to enjoy content than ever before. And for the inclined, their are rooting methods, fire toolbox, putting on the play store. Option on top of a sea of options. Just many of the sea of reasons it sells so well. Could not be happier. Well done Amazon.

My use of it... Installed Google framework.. Installed Google Play.. downloaded my Google Play playlist songs to device via wifi .. use Fire 7 as Bluetooth device for my car stereo and can take calls on my phone without music stopping. Passengers can pass the tablet around to control music instead of aux cords or my phone. My phone is a hotspot so it connects to Google server at least once every 30 days automatically and I can stream music into it (and download) while my phone is in the car. 20 minute setup for seamless experience

The HD 10 is also pretty good. I had the 2015 model, and it had some issues, but the 2017 model fixed all of them. It has a great screen, great processor, and it is extremely durable. I actually recommend it!

One fun thing to note about the Fire 7 is the difference between the regular and kid versions is literally just the foam case that surrounds the one. The Fire 7 has built in software to make it "kid friendly" and it can be disabled. I got two of these from work when the Amazon vendor came in to swap out the display models for a static picture version. He said to just throw them away because Amazon doesn't want them back, so he gave them to me because I didn't want to just toss them. After a bit a research, I learned how to reset it to get it off of the store demo display mode then I ran Fire Toolbox to de-bloat ads and useless apps on one and side-loaded a few apps to it. I'm currently using one of them as a cheap OBD II car scanner because it's just a tad easier to see the app on the larger screen and I don't need a high-spec system to run it. This way I don't risk dropping my phone if I'm working on a car. The only downside is I can only use one scanner that doesn't have bidirectional support, so I can't diagnose certain things on more modern cars. Maybe one day they'll update the app.

I got that tablet for free, it was super laggy, but after downgrading the software via adb and using a tool to uninstall all bloatware and installing the play store it is soooo much better. It would be nice to be able to flash a custom, slimmed down rom to take advantage of the garbage specs, but it works pretty well

I'm really surprised you didn't mention the data collection aspect of it as well. Among other things, Fire tablets have a "collect usage data" switch turned on by default, collecting data about how often and how long you run your apps. In exchange, some apps are actually available at no charge. This, combined with the lock screen ads, makes me feel uneasy about these devices. That's why I highly suggest rooting and installing the Google Play Store to get rid of the bloat, ads, and tracking in exchange for a purer Android experience.

Griffin S I'm not explicitly aware of any of these other companies that actively collect and send app usage statistics from their OS to their servers without you first explicitly opting in. Individual apps, yes, but the OS as a whole, no. If you know of specific instances, I'd be really interested in hearing about it. For instance Apple, as far as I'm aware, only has an opt-in option to send crash reports, not actual usage reports. Crash reports are also anonymized by the device before it ever sees an Apple server.

GBCAwesome Thanks. I didn't think so. I've got an old 5th gen Fire that I rooted a couple of years ago, and rooting was the only way to remove the lock screen ads without paying the upgrade fee. It also allowed me to replace Amazon's launcher with Nova. If a new root technique does come to light, I highly suggest taking advantage of it before the tablet auto-updates.

I have a couple of low-end 7" tablets (Galaxy 3 7" & an Acer something-or-other) that I use to run the app that controls my digital audio mixer (XR18). They also both work well as GPS units. For these purposes (and not much else) they are a great value. I'd imagine the Fire 7 would be as capable.

In that case it's decent deal but you know, this tablet is for "kids", tech-llamas and worst enemies so for them rooting process is basically the unicorn magic and that's the problem. Because yes, you have a choice to change the Hell of Amazon to something "decent" but you don't know about it when you are not tech-geek and when you are then you stay away from whatever brand does "ads on the lock screen" because it scream "CONSUMER TRAP" all over it. Don't worry you are not missing much. With the specs of this device you are better off leaving Amazons version of android on these tablets. Custom Roms that will work on this device are not nearly as optimized as OEM Roms, Amazon doesn't give out source code, so the kindle compatible Roms are nothing more than hacks and shims. On the other hand if you have a extremely powerful device, custom Roms are fantastic especially when source code is in fact available.

Why would you buy this of amazon instead of Aliexpress? You can get similar specs for similar prices without the amazon crap. My view of the low specs: there are actually a lot of people who buy the flagship phone to only stream music, read messages, call people, and occasionally look up something. Looking up weather forecasts and agenda appointments in hd is just a waste. I have seen IT students who only take pictures with whatsapp because their flagship phone camera has too many settings and they don't feel like figuring out how it works. I have seen arts students who only take pictures with auto settings. Those are the people who should care, right? The fact is: most people don't need all these new features. Not just some but MOST people! A lot of people buy a flagship to show off, because they just want to have a good thing, because they appreciate the effort put into it, because they want some performance to spare so that they know it's gonna work.

Sideloading Google Play is fairly straightforward. Google it. You need to download and sideload 4 files in order. After that you'll have full access to your Google ecosystem. These are great tablets for kids (like mine). If they break I don't mind, as much.

Have you considered that, like the US political corruption has more to do with Durerte's being elected then the public's stupidity. This tactic goes on in other countries, including other democracies to some degree or another; and is used to an even worse degree in the various dictatorships across the world. The scary thing is, as was see in Nazi Germany, the tactics Trump and the GOP are engaging in did lead to Fascism, anable political figures like Duterte to gain power, etc, and once in power like Hitler, Marcos, etc, such political figures do all they can to maintain that power. Already the Trump Administration has been requesting Congress give over congressional war powers over to the president, so that rather than having the President make some decisions about the degree of force used once Congress authorizes when to go to war and with whom; Congress would relinquish control and let the President decide whom to go to War with. No one individual should be given that much power, and once Hitler bombed his own headquarters and blamed the opposition party and was wrongly given his position of power; the members of his own power made the fateful decision to wrongly give up their political control by giving their legislative and political control over to Hitler, who then immediately fired them all. We have seen in this last year and a half, far more firings within an administration then any other point in American History. Do not sell the American masses as stupid, they are victims of a public school system which has been systematically undermined for decades; where some states haven't seen an increase in school funding in over 20 years, where many schools have 70 - 90% of their students below the poverty line due to the ruling class not raising wages with inflation since the 90's, due to the GOP demonizing critical thinking and logic, along with their attack on science and higher education. The GOP does this because, the more educated the public is, the more they challenge authority, the less likely they are to blindly follow political and religious leaders, and the less likely they are to follow organized religion. What will happen is what always happens, the GOP and the DNC will continue in their corrupt ways by continuing to enrich themselves, and then the progressives and third party politicians will be the ones who make change; for it has always been groups other than the DNC and the GOP who have made social change in America. The pendulum will swing back into the public's favor, and when it does all these politicians in bed with, the mob, Wall St, the ruling class, and everyone else but the public will find themselves kick out of office, and new regulations will be put back into place, and new regulations will be enacted making it harder for such corruption to occur again; making America truly great again. One such change will be term limits for Congress, for the Supreme Court, and every other political office, along with doing away with Lobbyists, stricter rules on campaign finance and campaign transparency, the showing of Tax Forms, etc.Only once this happens America will America earn back the respect of the other nations of the world. But until this happens, do not blame our people, blame those in power who have loaded the deck and stacked the cards in their own favor.

Advertising amazon cheap crap... Well once i was interested in that same crap 6 years or more ago, still it spikes interest on me as it was one of the choices at that time. Good thing i have bought amazon kindle hdx7 instead of hd7. Paid less with those ads, then jail braked and installed THOR android OS with play store and is still working (6 years ago) and I still use it from time to time. I only stream videos from internet as it takes lots of space. But sometimes i download anime to watch it on the bus without internet. What was funny THOR only took 7mb of space on HDX7. But after installing essential software, it took 4 gb to function properly. And left with 8 gb free space.

My friend owns a Amazon Fire 7 tablet, and I use it at some times. Here's the pros and cons. Pros: -Has a microsd slot to compensate for low storage -Comes with the addition of a voice command system (Alexa) -Surprisingly great with some high-demand games, like infinite flight -Durable and sturdy -Has a function to sideload the play store (can be found how to do online) Cons: -Sharp edges -Poor camera, and you'll need to be standing very still for a decent shot -Very low storage space -Takes sometime to charge, around an hour and half -...but the battery dies in the same time it takes to charge Neutral: -Bezels are between medium and large, but at least when you want to watch something with a good grip, it won't block out the screen -Screen is decent enough for all purposes. None are better or worse than the other -Colour selection isn't that wide, but it's better than some tablets that offer only 2 colours -Not the best tablet you can find, but the best one you can get for the price, especially at discounts that bank it down to $30 Overall, I'd give this tablet a pass. But just.
