The 9470m is HP's take on what an Ultrabook would look like if it was made for business. Very nice.... CA: ncix.com/search... US: us.ncix.com/sea...

4 months ago I dropped it on the floor by mistake, I thought its time has come to say farewell to me. I rushed into my room and plugged it in and surprisingly it worked as nothing happened, also I checked every single component if it was damaged, but everything was normal. That's why I liked the term "built like a tank" which is accurate 😅

From experience I can tell you that the MacBook Pro stands up to abuse extremely well. I had a 10ft piece of plaster coving fall from the ceiling and land straight on the top of my MacBook Pro. It bounced off the display of the MacBook and hit me straight on the head, leaving me with with a massive lump on my head but not a scratch to the MacBook. There was a huge mark on it but after wiping it with a damp cloth it was completely gone. Also, magnesium is softer and more flexible than aluminum.

The soundcard itself is fine. The fact that it's in a laptop and isn't shielded from interference from the other components is where it and every other laptop soundcard fall short. The fact that it's running through OS X is a huge advantage though. For example, when using MIDI controllers the latency is almost non-existent. In Windows it's almost impossible to achieve the same quality without paying out for an expensive external card. It's much better than fiddling around with ASIO4ALL drivers.
@Harmonyww12 жыл бұрын
As far as I know Intel made Thunderbolt in collaboration with Apple, so naturally the Apple devices got to use it first as they shared development of the technology. I think when people say these machines are MacBook Pro rip-offs they don't mean in terms of hardware but in terms of design. If you look at this machine and a MacBook Pro side-by-side they look almost exactly the same.
@TheGhostInMyScreen12 жыл бұрын
GPU isn't only for gaming. Apple actually used to use Quadro and Fire type of GPU's in the past in their systems. They were meant for editing purposes. Since there nowadays is an overlap between the two (professional cards and gaming cards) they went for the more casual and cheaper solution.

Yeah Palm OS was the first to really do any of this stuff, even the screens supported multitouch, its just there was no drivers written for it
@Harmonyww12 жыл бұрын
They're easy to open up. The MacBook Pro is geared towards being a portable, wireless machine, but you can buy a cheap Ethernet port accessory if you actually need one. The I/O is no worse than anything else on the market. And it's certainly nothing like a tablet. No touch screen for a start. The swappable battery is something that may put some people off. Not making the battery immediately swappable meant they could fit a bigger battery in though, so it's an advantage to the average user.
@Harmonyww12 жыл бұрын
Why can't I discuss it? "Overpriced" is completely subjective. You may think that, and I do too about some of their products (mainly their desktop PCs.) I don't think that about their laptops though. And their accessories aren't that expensive. You can easily get third party accessories for cheap as their laptops are the most popular in their class. There's more to a computer than its processor by the way. I don't understand why people are so hung up on hardware specs anyway.

The term ultra book was given by intel but "ultra books" have been around for a long time. Sony has produced some of the first thin and light notebooks along with Apple and their Macbook Air.
@Harmonyww12 жыл бұрын
I don't think he's referring to that specifically. I first saw this video while using a MacBook Pro and the shape of the keys, the shape and indentation of the area around the keyboard, the colour, and font used all look exactly the same. I thought it was a comparison between some HP laptop and the MacBook Pro or something, as this laptop looks so much like it.

Check out some of the side by side tests. A drop that completely shatters the Galaxy S3 and leaves it damaged beyond repair and in dozens of pieces on the floor only causes a cosmetic scratch on the side of the iPhone 5. Cisco is a fortune 500 company. They don't care about being famous, they are a networking company. They have a business to run and they saw value in apple for their company and employees. Also I don't need to link anywhere, I say that through my own experience. I've had PCs for over 15 years and recently got some macs. Bootcamp runs better than any windows installed PC as it does not come with bloatware. Bloatware by the way is paid my symantec, mcafee, etc to the manufacturers of your pcs.

Actually the first company to ever invent the ever so popular smartphone was IBM in 1992 with the Simon Personal Communicator. Also the first smartphone to have GPS, music player, and web browsing was the Nokia N95 which was released in March of 2007. Also without Samsung your precious little iPhone wouldn't even be made. look up the parts in the iPhone and most of them are made by Samsung like the A6 Processor and the memory that is on the phone also the Retina is a Samsung made product aswell.

Well I didn't buy mine as a gaming laptop, and it's not meant to be one. But it's certainly a very capable gaming machine. There are other laptops out there that are far better suited to just gaming, but they fall short in other areas. The MacBook Pro is just a really good all-rounder.
@W0ND3RB0Y112 жыл бұрын
Well you can discuss it all you want but since the definition of a discussion is sharing knowledge nobody will give a crap about discussing something that isn't subjective.. :) Oh im an Overclocker.. CPU on a laptop is everything tbh.. Especially when the graphic chip is on the CPU.. Something to think about... Nonetheless an i7 on a laptop is still a dualcore so specs makes one hell of a huge difference in this case when you put the heat transmission and power efficiency into consideration.
@facebag66612 жыл бұрын
I know you can dual boot on a standard pc. I do it. why I said this is because he said you can't install windows 7 and 8 on the ultrabook, I have windows 7, 8, and ubuntu 12.10 on my desktop, and windows 7 and ubuntu 12.10 on my laptop.

@Harmonyww12 жыл бұрын
For certain tasks Windows "sucks balls" too. Sure you can get the same processor, GPU, HDD, and RAM for less, but there's more to a computer than that. Even the machines that are just as powerful as the MacBook Pro cost almost as much. They're really not as overpriced as people seem to think. If you really can find a laptop that's just as powerful as the MacBook Pro but costs even 50% of the price, post a link here. I'll be impressed if you can.

well but MCB does lack a lot of features that make me not like ultra-books in general. The MCB is hard to open up, no swap-able battery, very very bad IO(If a PC doesn't even have a Ethernet-port anymore it's not a PC it's just a big tablet with a keyboard) list goes on.

They have improved massively in the last 4 years or so. 10 years ago it was true that they used vastly overpriced and outdated hardware, but that's not true now. You may not need to upgrade the MacBook as it's already more powerful than this machine. And it's not really fair to say that Apple use outdated hardware when you're looking at a machine with a VGA port and a pointing stick in the middle of the keyboard. The MacBook Pro has more accessories than just about any other laptop on the market

This is an old comment but I've owned both, and both of mine had Intel HD 4400 which is not great, however for basically anything non intensive they're both great. My 8470p had more ram and was easier to work on/fix but the 9470m is much lighter, thinner, has a better trackpad, and has a backlit keyboard. Performance was identical and both machines had an SSD in my experience
